General Stock Discussion / Copy space keyword, useful or not?
« on: November 23, 2017, 03:30 »
Hi
How do you think the keyword Copy space affects the sale of images? A while ago almost every stock image that contain space for text had the keyword copy space. Even though it was just a tiny area with room for text etc.....Even images with absolutely no room for text had it.
I wonder....Is it useful to submit images with copy space keyword or can you just leave it out and add more descriptive keywords?
What do you guys think of this? Does this have any effect on sales?

Well thats what I have been doing wrong I think. I assume the same criteria as Istock at ESP. They also require a much more extensive caption description. I do embed the metadata in my images in Lightroom.
I can understand if they complain about grammar. English is not my native language, Im from Sweden.

This may be a stupid question but do I need to put a title above the caption? In the image of the bridge the words "steel bridge" was a title. It was that short due to only 200 characters.....
At Istock you have a separate field for the title but at SS and BS you only have one.

SS has a limit of 200 character so you really have to keep it short. At SS all my editorials get accepted but not Bigstock. The only difference is that I write a whole lot more at Bigstock.

For example, an image of Liberty Bridge in Budapest:https://www.shutterstock.com/image-photo/steel-bridge-budapest-hungary-september-27-730888210

Accepted at SS but rejected by Bigstock. This is a very short caption. Uploaded to Bigstock I was more precise with more details but still rejected a second time.

Hi
Is there anyone else who noticed a changed review of editorial images? I never used to get rejections with my editorial images. Now all most every image is rejected due to wrong editorial caption. It always say that the caption must be a accurate description of whats going on in the image and must answer the usual questions Who, What, Were, When, Way and (How).
I keep trying to correct the images and upload them again. I DO describe the scene in the image but often get them in return once more........frustrating.

How do you write the caption to your editorial images? Long detailed caption? Or do you keep it very short? What about the title?

Annoying  >:( :( :-\

I have a jump up in downloads as well. Does this mean we will get payed for the new updated sales or is it just a fix of the displayed count number at ESP? I'm not sure how to interpret the e-mail. Have we been payed for these downloads  earlier?

I have done some serious thinking after taking part of all the knowledge and thoughts in this thread and trying to line up the pros and cons about going exclusive on IS. It seem to me I will be better of uploading images in the way I do to day in terms of income from sales.
But Im pretty tired doing all the boring work....uploading.....keywords.....etc. etc....to different agencies.
I dont think I ever will be a top producer of images that sell in thousands, so I would probably be comfortable in uploading to just one agency but a very poor exclusive contributor  :'( :'( :'(

A lot of information, thank you. But, Im a little bit surprised about your thoughts of Istock policy etc... I though that Istock favored exclusive contributors and is about to do so even more in the future.
I am a bit disappointed with their unwillingness to accept sertain editorial images, I have had several rejections of images with political themes as demonstrations etc... :(

Hi
I'm considering going exclusive on Istock but I'm still not sure if it's worth it. Anyone who has become an exclusive contributor and can shed some light on this.
Does your earnings increase in a way that it's worth it??
I submit images to Istock, Shutterstock, Fotolia, Bigstock, 123RF and Dreamstime. Decent earnings from IS, SS and FT. I'm curious if it's possible to make more money on Istock alone then all of them together? Would be nice to have only one agency to upload to, but I hesitate because I can't see how Istock alone can generate more income than all of them together.

Any thoughts and experiences???

Best

You can see the info video on Deep Meta website. I have tried to submit images but was very annoyed when I cant sort the keywords as I want ( it could be done in the old version). Is there a change meaning you dont have to put the keywords in order starting with the most relevant at the top???????

I thought that a serious agency like Shutterstock and Fotolia would have good resources and software to make accurate translations. Especially if they have the option of translation from different languages. What I'm thinking about is how it affects sales and search results if you use keywords in native language or English???? I guess it is safest to use English keywords if you are fairly comfortable with English.

12
Why I hesitate is because I have seen so many strange keywords translated into Swedish when I'm on Shutterstocks Swedish website and all keywords in contributors images are translated into Swedish. That's why I always use the English site when just browse around and look at pictures.

Hi and nice to be in the Forum.
Anyone who has tried to create keywords in native language when submitting images? I have not tried since I doubt that there will be an accurate translation.....just look at the results from Google translate in general, thy are quite bad. Im from Sweden and there are options on several micro stock agencies to use Swedish as keyword language.

Anyone using a language other than English?
What do you think? Does it generate accurate and equivalent keywords in English? Must be important if you want to reach out to customers who are English speaking.......
