Newbie Discussion / Re: Can image rejection be a positive thing?

While I take rejection as a "get your act together" it does seem SS has a random way of assessing stock lately.
Three videos I put up and 5 images were rejected for "quality"  (Grain) and yet all were shot with good lighting at 100 ISO and were accepted by other sites.

Go figure.

I get it now and again, but I assume it's down to volume uploaders rather than local connection. There are times here (UK) when it's crazy slow, but as I work from home I tend to upload in the morning or during lunchtime and it seems to be fine.

Not sure about 2018 but here's my video on making bank in 2019 :-)

Lovely presentation. Well done! A little surprised that you didn't have a greater emphasizes on "environmental".....but then it's a "subject" that doesn't seem to resonate much with agencies either.

I understand what you're saying about environmental and as much as I personally find it important as many others do, this along with many other subjects does not get the attention it deserves. I have experimented recently on uploading some of the less well-known areas and have, to my surprise sold 5 images almost immediately.

I will be sharing this information in my next video (3rd) one before Christmas, hopefully by the end of this week. The next video will show that some subjects are seasonal and yet become more so depending on the time of the year (there's a clue).

TBH I was fed up of producing Christmas themes in October :-)

Got a good tip for you guys... Editorial: Yellow vests :-)

Newbie Discussion / Can image rejection be a positive thing?

As you can see I am new here and don't want to break any rules about posting links, so I guess this will be removed if it's not appropriate but I feel it is.
On the subject of rejection...When I first started in stock I felt awful about being rejected and for me that was (looking back) the mistake I made. Why would "I" feel awful, the person on the other end of my images was not judging me personally.

I hope you guys can give me some feedback on my latest upload about getting rejected on stock sites. For me it helped improve my skills, once I had got passed the ego :-)

This new video is all about how we should or could handle rejection as a positive way to move our photography forward. https://youtu.be/tjwXpTZERV8

I hope some of you who are completely new to stock take time to look at it and consider how you wish to move forward.

Thanks for taking the time people.

I appreciate all the great feedback guys, I know there is much more I could have covered but I was very conscious of the limited time I could hold the attention of the audience. I was told 10-15 mins is about as long as you can push the attention span of many viewers nowadays.

As you could see it was my first video. If your interested I have another I uploaded on "Rejection" but I don't want to highjack this thread :-)

For me it was Istock (getty) convoluted upload system, no support, and the effort was just not worth the rates.

Newbie Discussion / Re: What do u think about FEMALE PHOTOGRAPHER?
« on: December 14, 2018, 18:43 »
What makes you think they have challenges?

My best friend is a great female photographer and finds it so much easier to get the sort of work she wants (Mum's/ babies/pets family portraits) than I do for every 5 clients she gives discounts if they are happy to sign a release so she can earn even more from stock.
