I remember that Lee Torrens was calling the owner of Lucky Oliver visionary.
Depending on Lee Torrens comments is a bad omen for SnapVillage.  :)

Very sad.  I really enjoyed his sense of humor.  My condolences to his family.
What a shock!

I started shooting people on an isolated white background. Yes, I know it's a great idea and hope not too many people copy me.

I think at least a hundred of photographers already shooting people on an isolated white background. Don't be surprised to see that your idea is already in use.

Bigstock.com / Re: Is this the reason for slow sales at BigStock ??
« on: September 26, 2008, 22:55 »
11 sales in September. I stopped uploading to them because of low sales and ftp that accepts only one connection at a time.

I am surprised this isn't being discussed at all. Hopefully things will straighten out and we will only have a mild recession. But what if the doomsayers are right and we are going into another great depression? Or even just a severe recession? Any predictions on what that would do to our sales? Can we forget about making any serious money with this if a real depression comes?

It will be a severe recession that will end in 2-4 years.  Do no expect during that time to earn as much as you do now.

I shoot mostly food and sometimes products. Does it make sense to buy a tilt shift lens?

iStockPhoto.com / seach engine turned even more to favor exclusives
« on: September 23, 2008, 19:20 »
I have an image that showed on the downloads first page and also on the best match first page. Now it is on the 6th best match page. I have checked all images on the first best match  page - they all belong to exclusives. I think IS  was not doing great lately and they do not want to hurt exclusives. At our expense ....

Dreamstime.com / DT is ahead of IS
« on: September 23, 2008, 15:15 »
For the first time for me DT is ahead of IS. IS has been very slow this month for me and DT very active. So now it is SS, DT, IS, FT.

Newbie Discussion / Re: Image management
« on: September 11, 2008, 15:19 »
I have all my 1400 images jpegs  in one folder on my windows XP . And all raw in Lightroom.
Also I backup to 300GB external drive.

So how do you tell what's online and what isn't? Do you upload everything to everywhere as soon as you create it? I'm guessing you don't bother keeping track of rejections and/or resubmissions.

Thinking about this reminds me of a thread I started about image management and upload scheduling. The overwhelming opinion was that I was wasting my time on such things and would be better off creating new imagery.

you are correct I do not keep track of rejections and I have already uploaded everything to every site. SS accepted 1125 of them for example. But you are much more successful, so my example may be of little use to you.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: The Digital Rebel XSi by Canon
« on: September 10, 2008, 19:01 »
If it helps, I have the XTi/400D, and I like it a lot.  These high-Mpix cameras are however very unforgivable to lens quality, so this is something important to consider in your budget.

That is what I have .  And  some Canon L lenses . Adelaide, could you expand on "unforgivable to lens quality" ?

Well, again it only makes sense to come to reasonable conclusion that there is third party responsible for this rash of poor performance in our portfolios.

Since i feel the least affected by this monstrous demon, I feel obligated to seek out and destroy what ever this evil do'er,  money thieving entity is.

I will let you all know when i have destroyed it

again making fools most of us, and making point at the same time. I am not offended at all I started this thread at a weakened when the demon runs unrestrained.

General Stock Discussion / Re: amateurs running microstock?
« on: September 06, 2008, 07:57 »
well microstock is still very young so I suppse everyone involved is an 'amateur'
I do feel though that those running to top sites do know what they are doing

Especially SS.  'amateur' sharks.

General Stock Discussion / Re: amateurs running microstock?
« on: September 05, 2008, 23:21 »
He is pointing to how badly they run microstock industry

1. instead of finding new clients they just compete with each other
2. prices are too low and that makes images look cheap and sales are declining
3. all of this is happening since amateurs are running the business of microstock sites.

 am I close, lobby ?
