Veer / Where is "past payments" link at Veer?
« on: November 09, 2010, 01:17 »
Is it so complicated to implement simple and visible link to the past payments? I would just like to know when I was paid, and how much.
If someone could show me where I can see this? Maybe I just can't find it?

iStockPhoto.com / Istock survey
« on: October 04, 2010, 03:06 »
Istock sent me an email to take the survey about their uploading and submitting system. So, I clicked to fill-out the survey, and then they started asking questions like, do I have a studio or not, do I have professional lighting equipment, do I hire professional models....???
What kind of questions are that? What does this have with uploading process? My conclusion is that Istock just wants to learn more, to make some future changes, that will make the business better for "all of us".
What do you think?

Dreamstime.com / Credit sales cheaper than subs
« on: October 01, 2010, 11:57 »
My last credit sales at DT are smaller than subscription sales. For example, in few days I have:

4 sub sales and 6 credit sales.
Sub sales are worth $0,35 - $0,7.
At the same time, I had:
1 credit sale for $0,11
2 credit sales for $0,2 each
1 credit sale for $0,28
Even one credit sale worth 3 credits was only $0,55

General Stock Discussion / Getty destroys everything in sight
« on: September 21, 2010, 09:15 »
Since you guys are mostly in photos/illustrations, I will keep it short.

After deleting my audios from IS I decided to contact several audio libraries, and I was quite shocked how they all hate Istock/Getty. No one had nice words for them. And not only that. The comments were describing Istock management with words like "idiots", "very bad for artists", "people who are destroying this business"etc. These words are not mine. They are quoted directly from emails I received from contact persons who work on other sites.

Istock is reducing prices of audio in general. They are one of the cheapest audio libraries on internet, yet they pay their non-exclusive contributors 15%, while other libraries have 50/50, or in worst case 60-40 deal. Plus, Istock doesn't allow their artists to join PRO and receive performance royalties, while artists who submit their files to other libraries regularly receive money whenever their music is played.
So, please tell me, what could be worse for artists?

Getty/Istock obviously destroys, not only photography business, but music business too, and artists are suckers to support such company.

Bigstock.com / My picture on Bigstock Blog
« on: September 19, 2010, 14:22 »
I just typed my name, and this came up among first results:

http://www.bigstockphoto.com/blog/thedownload/2010/07/stock-photos-of-sports/

My image is the image of paraglider in twilight, lol. It's one of my first images on stock, taken with point and shot 4Mpix camera :)

I admit it's the weakest image in this collection

Off Topic / I wanted to show you my music
« on: September 16, 2010, 14:09 »
Hi everyone,
Since I am in IS exclusivity cancellation process I still can't sell royalty free audio elsewhere. But I decided to upload some of my full tracks that I made recently and offer them for RM license. When IS sends me a message that I am not exclusive anymore I will opt in to RF license.
I hope no one will see this as a pimping thread, because most of us here are photographers. I'm making music on my computer, at home, and I do everything from composing, through recording, producing, mixing, and post-processing.
I uploaded only 3 full tracks, and few loops. Lyrics for the song "Moonlit Sky" are written by my friend Denis Radovanovic (Goldenangel on the forum). Don't mind my awful accent while I sing, lol. I submitted instrumental version for people who want to sing it instead of me.
Instrumental "Mediterraneo" was one of my first instrumentals. I composed it when I was 18 (1992)
Instrumental "Reunion" was made this year.
I recommend you check only these three tracks, since other stuff I have there are only loops. These three tracks are very different one from another, so if you don't like the first one, please check other two.  :)

Please click here www.audiosparx.com/ivanpaunovic

and just click that small black speaker icon under the song title.
Thanks! :)

Adobe Stock / New prices for unsold files at FT
« on: August 31, 2010, 08:08 »
I received this email from Fotolia today.

Dear Whitechild,

Recently, we've been receiving a lot of requests from contributors to
remove underperforming files from their portfolios. Apparently, most
photographers think that there is no chance of selling an image if it
hasn't been downloaded at least once in the last year.

Since then, our product and marketing teams have been working hard on
creating a solution that benefits both contributing artists and
customers alike. Our belief is that if one of your images was accepted
into Fotolia's collection, it is an image that deserves to be sold and
used.

To make your images even more attractive to customers, we're
introducing a new pricing strategy for images that have not been
downloaded in the last 12 months. These images will be priced at
Fotolia's best rates - $1 for XS, to $10 for XXL. If your images are
already priced at this level, images in your portfolio will remain
unchanged. Once the affected images are downloaded at least 5 times,
you will be able to set their maximum prices once again.

Along with our other sales and marketing initiatives, we're
anticipating increased sales when this new policy comes into effect
September 1st, 2010.

Best Regards,

Team Fotolia

Guys, I need some help regarding color management in Vista 32bit. Actually, I had to reinstall my graphic driver, and now when I open Photoshop it says that my color system appears wrong. I told Photoshop to ignore it, and now PS shows images normally. But still when I open them by double clicking them in windows explorer I get wrong colors. White looks yellow, gray looks pink and black looks blue.
I changed the settings in color management to sRGB, but it doesn't help.
Same thing happened when I reinstalled my graphic driver last year, but I can't remember how I fixed it.
Can someone please help me?
Ivan

Off Topic / Will Yellowstone erupt any time soon?
« on: August 24, 2010, 18:56 »
This really disturbed me today, and I can't shake it off. I know it's coming, but I still hope it won't happen soon. If this happens it will kill most of the life on Earth. Some due to explosion, poisonous gases and ash, and most of it because of dust that will cover our planet for another 6 years after explosion, blocking sunlight and decreasing temperature for about 20 degrees C (68 F).
After seeing this webpage, I went over news about Yellowstone, and I discovered that it's surface rose a lot in last few years, and number of Earhquakes in Yellowstone in January this year was about 10 times bigger than before.
Take a look at the link:

iStockPhoto.com / IS keywords recognition problem
« on: August 19, 2010, 17:23 »
I uploaded an image with DeepMeta, and it was rejected due to several keywords. So, I had to resubmit the image using IS website. After upload, I noticed that the image has only 22 keywords, which is about 50% of the original number. So, I had to add more keywords manually.
Didi someone else notice the same thing maybe?

123RF / New MR rule at 123RF
« on: August 02, 2010, 09:42 »
I didn't have any combined MR at 123RF, but this is for those who had:

Dear Contributor,

This serves as a notification to inform you that from now on, all submitted model releases must be scanned, uploaded and attached separately for all your submitted photos. This is to help facilitate the development of our new and upcoming search option which will be launched anytime before the end of this month.

If any of your releases are currently combined (a few releases scanned and uploaded as a single file), your images will not be visible or show up in searches once this search option is launched. Hence, you must separate them as individual releases and reattach them again to your images currently on 123rf to ensure the accuracy of your images when searched.

Example:
An image has 3 models.
DO NOT scan and combine all 3 model releases into 1 file and attach it to the image.
DO scan and upload EACH model release to our release section. Then attach the releases to the image separately.

Your co-operation in this matter is very much appreciated. Thank you.

Regards,

General Stock Discussion / Copyright question - UPDATED
« on: July 28, 2010, 18:00 »
I uploaded one of the stars from the Walk of Stars from Palm Springs (it's the same thing as Walk of Fame in Hollywood). I erased the name of the artist and the palm tree sign bellow it, so the star  was empty.
Some sites accepted it without problems, but some of them rejected it because of a possible copyright problem. I expected this to happen, and I tried to find some info on Internet about it, but I didn't find anything about an empty star and copyright, so I decided to upload anyway.
The star was first rejected at SS, but then I found the same stars on SS. Some of them were editorial, and others were not. It also easy to find those stars on IS and other agencies.

Could anyone please tell me if the star is copyrighted?

Here is one example of the star on SS which is accepted and it's NOT selling as editorial:

My star is accepted at 4 agencies for now, and rejected at 2 (SS and BS)

This is my star at CanStockPhoto:

Ironically, there is a Canstockphoto logo on it ;D

Bigstock.com / Problem submitting images to BS
« on: July 19, 2010, 16:22 »
Does anyone have problems submitting images to BS today?
I save all data, keywords, categories etc., but when I click submit I get the message that images don't have all necessary data. After clicking "submit" button, I notice the website didn't remember categories.
No matter how many times I repeat the procedure, I get the same message.

Shutterstock.com / SS tax problem
« on: May 26, 2010, 18:05 »
Guys, I'm starting to have a problem with my actual earnings on SS because of the withheld tax that's collecting in my account from month to month. Right now, I got $40,02 of tax withheld, and soon it will become very hard for me to follow how much I really earned, and when can I expect my payment. Right now, my gross earning are around $106, and one would expect payment. But my tax is around $40 for past months, and I don't have an idea how much is it for May.
Is there any solution for this problem, or my account will continue to collect tax until my tax withheld becomes bigger than my earnings? I can see the situation in the future when I have gross earnings (including tax) of $200, and $140 just tax. So, soon if I want to know when will I reach payment, I have to deduct tax for all past months from the gross earnings. I really don't want to do it every month.
