What I did see: a lot of 1,2 cent (yes that's right, I triplechecked) sales from China.
Does anyone know what the deal is here?
These are (always?/usually?) through a Chinese 'partner' FotoPress.
Luckily for me, for some reason these Chinese buyers don't like my work, or my rpd would be even lower than it is now.

Second worst month since August 2007. Shocking RPD of 84c. - not including Connect.

That said, a friend had his 2nd highest ME thanks to selling 6 files from a 12 years old series at super high prices.

If you want to use that metaphore fine. First of all, I believe in geopolitical politics (call me me a conspiracist if you want). I agree with the russians that NATO (with the US leading) has been expanding towards their border and that, although they complained about it for decades, NATO went right ahead. So that would be like kissing somebody against their will even though the other person tells you they don't like it.
No, it's not remotely like that.
If I'm offended because my neighbour is more friendly with her other neighbour than with me, and then she and the other neighbours further down all gang up and ignore me, and do weird stuff, like erecting tacky monstrosities that brings down the value of the street, and I get paranoid in case they might throw a brick through my window one day, that doesn't mean I can go and bomb their houses to make sure it never happens.

DT must be pretty desperate - or clueless!
SS has the possibility to exclude sites from which they do not want ads to show up and should do so with competition sites, but apparently they do not care.
That's what I meant by 'clueless'!

A lot of russians are leaving their country through Finland, before their country goes back to what it was during communism.. a prison !!

"a lot of" - is it dozens? Hundreds? Thousands? Billions? Where do you get your statistics from? Don't offer FB posts though.

Google is Our Friend:
https://www.schengenvisainfo.com/news/russians-leaving-their-country-for-finland-due-to-fear-of-isolation
"Since the start of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, a high number of persons have been leaving the latters territory.
While some said that they are leaving Russia due to the sanctions imposed by EU countries, others said that they are leaving Russia as there has been a rumour that Vladimir Putting plans to introduce martial law in order to deal with the protests that the citizens are making against the invasion of Ukraine, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports."

And, to my knowledge, Russian - Finnish border was closed for a long time, due to pandemic and has not been opened yet. How can millions flee through closed border?

Your 'knowledge' needs updating:
https://www.helsinkitimes.fi/finland/finland-news/domestic/21133-numerous-of-russians-sought-to-leave-russia-for-finland-last-weekend.html
"YLE and Helsingin Sanomat wrote last weekend that in the coming days there are virtually no available seats on VRs Allegro trains from St. Petersburg to Helsinki.
Allegro is presently the only regular rail connection from Western Russia to Europe, according to YLE. VR stated to the public broadcasting company that it is looking to increase services on the route due to the high demand, "

https://yle.fi/news/3-12345301
Ah, numbers:
"Thousands of Russians are leaving their country in fear of the authorities declaring martial lawa move that would close borders and stifle domestic dissent."

This is very courageous! A very brave woman!

The sign says:
Stop the War. Don't believe the propaganda. They lie to you!
She is now arrested (obviously), "for being a good person with a mind of her own", as one of the comments said.

This is the charity I used: https://novaukraine.org/ (mentioned before in one of those blocked name-calling threads)

I understand she is shot (obviously) by Putin, hasn't she?

sold once for $2500  OR 25 times.  Not really equal, as for UK News image the  25 times could easily be under $100 in revenue.

It could even be under $10.

haven't seen any UK News for that low.  Lowest i had was $1.14.   but yes there is report of lower
Live News sold to websites can be lower.

Alamy sent out an email featuring "Top Selling Content Of 2021" at the end of last week. Been waiting for a discussion about the best selling images, but when I just checked out the lightbox, it was empty.
Any ideas what this is all about?
Did you check out the images? Strikingly many bestsellers were historic images.
I didn't get the email. Was it just if you were in the top selling content list?

Since the beginning of March, IStock hasn't reviewed any of my images that are related to the Ukraine War. Other images that have nothing to do with the war are reviewed normally.

Does anyone else have similar experiences?? Does Putin have a grip of Getty's balls?  :o
iStock\Getty doesn't accepting any news-relating editorial, especially as sensitive as war-related.
Getty absolutely accepts war news photos.
https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/photos/ukraine-war
OP, no idea about vectors, sorry.

iStock doesn't accept News, sport or celebrity photos, and hasn't done for a long time. I think it's not to compete with Getty's 'house' photographers. Also, they don't have a mechanism for getting images quickly out to the markets.

I'll help Russians. The ones who were killed during 8 year war.
Not quite sure how you can help those deceased Russians.
Putin will be ecstatic you want to help him; he's welcoming people like you to go and support his army.

Just got the answer from Alamy:

Weve now added the geo-restriction to your account, so you wont see any direct sales to the territory of Russia.
Does that mean that they will sell it, but you don't see it and you will get no commission from it? Lol then :)

No, and you know it.

Even if, as I said above, I don't want any blood money from Russia.

You must admit, what Alamy says is distinctly ambiguous, and very strange wording, although in this case, hopefully the first part of the sentence is correct:
"Weve now added the geo-restriction to your account, so you wont see any direct sales to the territory of Russia."
It would have been more logical and usual to say "... ... so your files won't be directly sold to the territory of Russia"

Probably just bad wording, like that quoted on another thread by Sean, where Dreamstime says on their homepage:
Headline: "Help charities fight the war against Ukraine!"
Which could definitely be read in two ways* if taken alone, though presumably they are actually supporting Ukraine, as the next sentence is:
"5% of our revenue will be donated to charitable organizations helping Ukraine as a War Relief Stimulus."

*If you doubt the ambiguity of the headline, how would you interpret: "Help charities fight the war against Hunger"?

From Alamy's forum:
(only on request) Alamy is able set 'Geo-Restrictions', thus preventing your images being seen and sold in Russia, for anyone who wishes to make this minuscule gesture of solidarity with Ukraine. Email [email protected]

Only for information: do with it, or don't what you will.
Some have said they will donate any money they receive from Russia or Belarus to charities benefitting the Ukranians.

SS separates them but for Adobe, my compound keywords don't get separated as far as I have noticed.

Ok, thanks for the info.  I've just looked and it seems that a lot of Alamy contributors must split their own keywords.  ::) Though 'no people' always seems to be 'stuck together'!

It also seems that files on SS can have 'phrase keywords'.

Hmmmm.

General Stock Discussion / Re: use two words in one keyword ?

Then there are images that make no sense in the search if you separate the compound keywords. Like Golden Gate Bridge. You could separate and have bridge as a separate keyword but golden and gate by themselves wouldn't apply at all. FWIW.
That's totally correct.

At least one of the micros, can't remember which (Adobe? not sure), actually splits the phrases. At least, on a file page I can see keywords alphabetised so that Bridge, Gate and Golden would appear like that, maybe with intervening keywords, when it's the Golden Gate Bridge.
(Unless by weird coincidence, the authors of the random files I clicked on all separated their 'phrase keywords'.)
I have no idea if some IT magic imn the background somehow holds the original 'phrase tag' together for searches.

This is rather long, I've only watched the first 25 mins so far, but it could be an interesting insight into Putin's mental state and the background of that mental state.
Caveat: it's just one person's opinion and for some reason the interviewer, a smart medical doctor (whom I've been following for a dissemination of Covid research for months), says nuclear like IIRC Dubya used to. Try to blot it out!

Alamy.com / Re: Alamy sale for 7 cents
« on: February 27, 2022, 13:55 »
I'm going to try to bring this back to the subject of Alamy?

Last year I had the most downloads ever. No I didn't have any of those 7c specials. This year, and I'm a bit ahead but feel kind of safe on this one, I have NO SALES for the first two months. Always a surprise when sales are rather even, spread out across the year, and now, nothing? Not one?

How will I make the quota so I get 40% when they have lowered prices and in June will drop me to 20%? I don't see anything encouraging going on there right now.

Remember that your rolling year for calculating your next year's percentage is from 1 July last year, and it's $250 gross sales, so you will probably stay on 40% (barring any further squeezes they might impose  >:() until July 2023, but after that, it's not so certain. It's particularly egrecious to make it a $$ amount of sales, when they control the price of each sale, and seem to be handing out huge discounts like sweeties.

Yes, to the rolling totals but in my case, no. Many of the better sales were early half of the year last year, which will roll over. And correct, they have reduced the prices, so even if I should suddenly get some sales, I won't make the minimum. That and selling for less, I'll also make less even at 40%

Things don't look very bright right now.

Are you really sure?
I'm a low-volume seller there with low-value sales with a few low-medium sales occasionally, but I just summed my Jan-Feb gross on excel and the past two months alone have me at over $250 gross. Net, of course, is  :'(

Already stock markets are crashing, oil prices are rocketing up and COVID is still in the mix.

Recession next?

Ugh.

Putin enjoys sowing misery and chaos. It's the one thing he does very well.

So now he's having his way with the whole world, spreading misery and chaos everywhere, not just in Ukraine (although for sure they are getting the worst of it).

I'm sure he's loving it.

Very biased. Guilt goes to NATO and American politics. They have caused this tragedy and only Europe will experience tragedy. Sad but true.

Keep drinking the Putin kool aid Russian botnik  ;D

I'm not pro Russian. I just try to observe the world with open eyes. Try yourself sometimes. It helps.  ;)

Perhaps you'd like to explain what your open eyes have taught you to the rest  of us*.
Best to take it to the Off-topic forum, though.

I am aware that Trump has praised Putin: "He is pretty smart. Hes taken over a country for $2 worth of sanctions,... really a vast, vast location, a great piece of land with a lot of people and just walking right in.

I'll heading shortly to a protest at the Russian Embassy in Madrid to get some content. Wish me luck!

Good luck! Stay safe! Give Putin hell!!!!!!!!!!!
Excuse me, but this is not place to talk about politics or geopolitics. Who are you to decide who is good and who is bad? And what do you even know about the reasons for this invasion? There is a big community of both Ukrainians and Russians in this forum, in fact the two largest microstock communities in the world. So, please, don't get involved here by insulting or praising anyone or anything connected to this conflict. We all agree that innocent people shouldn't be the victims and that is it. There are plenty of forums and subreddits where you can express your opinion and get involved in discussion.

Who are you to decide what is to be talked about in this place?
Sure, there's an off-topic forum, but thread drift is inevitable in online forums, and has been since the days of Usenet.
