Great information, thanks ever so much. I can't use this at the moment with my photos (shooting with a "vintage" Canon300d doesn't allow for much cropping ) But it is a really great tip for my abstracts and fractals as I can choose freely my image size there. I was always wondering what would be the "ideal" ratio to use for such images and you really helped me out! Like you said, not everything will work in a square format, but I will certainly bear it in mind. SY

Cropping images to squares for better search results is easily accomplished with the larger file size.
Can you explain that a bit more please? SY

Three sales so far at Albumo and several more for my referrals, not too bad for a site that is only a few months on line. SY

Half of my portfolio are fractals, and they account for over 50% of my microstock income also. Most are made with apophysis, so here my experience: Forget submitting fractals or other jpg abstracts to IStock, no chance. Dreamstime and Crestock accept some fractals, I even made best image of the day at Crestock with a fractal, but acceptance can be a bit unpredictable. Really fractal friendly are: Lucky OliverShutterStockMostPhotos123rfAlbumoBigStockPhotoFeaturePicsFotoMindHow much money you make depends how good - and "stockworthy" the image is, like always ;-) And for a bit more fractal/ apophysis-addiction try the new Apophysis 3d Hack Hope that helps, SY

Slow, steady, reliable trickle of sales, it was my first site I submitted to and my approval ratio is close to 100%, so I stay, for the moment. SY

I've got a lot of editorial concert shots, and obviously they are all noisy (during a concert it's frequent to shot at 800iso or even 1600iso). I've got also a lot of "low-light-noisy-shots" (it seems a light film grain, not too much disturbing)
where can i upload and sell that shots?
Try FeaturePics, put a note to the reviewer in and explain the situation. They accept editorial and you can even set your own price. SY

Your problem is probably that you've got the manufacturer's name slap bang in the middle of the clock!

I would upload them to FeaturePIcs, they offer per image sales via credit card, you can set your own price and they are protected by a license agreement, just my two cents (in case you need a referral link for featurepics click here SY

Just one more point: The site show is still completely free, I didn't get any tokens deducted for the images I put in there. And for the records, my highest price is set at 5token/ credits, can somebody point us to the overpriced image please? SY

The main point is that the contributor sets the price for his/ her side show images at Lucky OIliver, like they do on FeaturePics for all images and btw how many people here sell the same images on Alamy like on microstock??? SY

« on: November 27, 2007, 10:26 »
And btw, as soon as you start submitting to more then one site your images will be always priced slightly differently, depending if it a subscription/ per picture site and also as maunger already said: on some sites like Dreamstime and I think also Fotolia it depends on your downloads how your images are priced. SY (and yes, I am also a reviewer at Lucky Oliver)

I replied on talkmicro ;-) Ah, that "forum" where threads keep evaporating? ;-) I left there a few days ago. Time to move on.
I replied and whilst I was still typing somebody posted an insult towards me, so I thought enough is enough and left also... Get me right, I am all for open and even heated discussion, but a forum that allows his members to insult other members continuously is not a forum I want to be part of.... SY

Updating my web site I added a forum with a hidden board for image reviewers. You can check it out here: How to apply... (Ok, obviously not the hidden board but the "portal" to it...) As I started reviewing for stock sites more then a year ago I tried to find something like this, a place where reviewers can exchange tips and tricks and discuss their work conditions but I couldn't find anything! So I thought now with the web site re-vamp it is a good possibility to offer this, SY PS I am reviewing for Lucky Oliver....
