Title: Scandinavian Stockphoto - How are your earnings?
Post by: CD123 on November 18, 2010, 08:33
Hi
Any one have experience with Scandinavian Stockphoto (www.canstockphoto.com (http://www.canstockphoto.com)). They pay in Euro (I was just approved) but does not know much about their size and income potential. Site looks quite good.

Funny; you asked about ScanStock but included a link for CanStock.  ;)

ScanStock's among the lowest of the low for me.  They're minimal effort for minimal return, producing a mere .3% of my stock income over the last year.  To put that into perspective, that's 1/10 of the 3% that CanStock earns me, and they're probably not worth the effort either.

You forgot an s in your link :)

http://www.scanstockphoto.com (http://www.scanstockphoto.com)

They are fairly slow but do have steady sales.  I have around 5000 images with them (many of which are from Scandinavia) and get around 1 sale/day.  If you have a small port expect a sale or two every few months.

The upside is they are very easy to upload to.

thanks for the numbers... numbers do mean a bit more than just saying 'they are ok' .. so here are mine
Scanstock, this year, has contributed 0.87% to my total earnings
Canstock is 2.3% to my total microstock earnings.

both fairly low amounts... but I still upload both places as it takes minimal work.  If you have a small portfolio though I would probably say it isn't worth the effort as it will be a very long time before you reach a payout.

Thanks for the heads up. I ma rather new to this so I do not want to upload to 20 sites - even if it is easy (my internet line is rather slow). What would you recommend as the best European photo stock website?

You could try Panthermedia. They are not in the top rank, but sales are regular.

My referral link:  http://www.panthermedia.net/?aff=125083 (http://www.panthermedia.net/?aff=125083)

The list on the right is sorted by best to worst earner according to the votes of the people on the forum.  Voting is done each month in the poll here (http://www.microstockgroup.com/pollsvote/)  You can use that as a guide.  Fotolia has a pretty strong european base (Germany and France), as well as Dreamstime

Im Swedish,  so take this from me!

No Scandinavian agency EVER, have remotly understood anything about stock-photography,  its a total, complete waste of time!  many agencies here are back in the stoneage, still working out of shoe-boxes.
Scandinavia is a very rich part of the world but to expect to pay for pictures?  NEVER or to organize a stock-library: NEVER.

http://wp.me/pPDGb-2l (http://wp.me/pPDGb-2l)

check out the link, as i have sorted agencies that pay in US and EURO..

i got a few sales in panthermedia but all are subscription downloads that in cents, and you need to 'pay' 20 cents or 30 cents when u registered account, so called to verify your paypal, none of the agencies are doing so.

the uploading of panthermedia is not user friendly and also the interface is badly designed.

maybe zoonar is the one who worth to try, since they recently got in some more partners, but my sales in zoonar is also kind of low.

basically if your portfolio is just little, basically just focus on top tier website..

Thank you for the feedback - I just struggle like hell to get approval at Shutterstock and IStock. Have a few pics on Fotolia and my Dreamstime portfolio is now growing nicely (that is now for an "old" beginner  ;) )

between Scan and Panther.. go to Panther (some nice sales time to time) but the submission process sucks..

I have around 1000 pictures at Scan and 12 sales.. about a year! (maybe should upload more to there..)

mainly get into the top 8, see what works best for you

My sales at Scanstock range from 1-2 per month with a portfolio of 241 images.

I think however they are stuck in time with their prices.

Hi all, i just read the faq at scanstockphoto about how much one get paid for sale.

just a sentence '1 Euro for each download'..

so all we will get is just 1 Euro? no size differences? no extended license?

Yes, one euro, just one size. I would have thought they had ELs, don't they?

That commission was very good years ago, not so much these days.

Yes, you should. I tried almost all of the low earners and the only ones I am still submitting regularly are PM and SCAN: the former has better sales but the ugliest upload method; the latter has lower sales but the easiest upload method. Both are worth in my opinion. The rest of low earners are not at present (although I have some expectations from SF).

everything is 1 Euro..i don't really see EL license option is available.. have to think twice if 1 Euro is the maximum.

Well Eirik has been around for a very long time with his 1 2-man operation. He's actually a very nice guy and I don't mind uploading there (it's dirt easy) if it can sustain his hobby. I just wish he could spend some time coding the MRF section since you can only attach one single MRF document.

As to YAY, aren't they subsidized by the Norvegian government?

Thats it!  if you go with a Scandinavian agency, it must be Macro,  Micro, is something they dont understand.

Not really. Though both Yay and Crestock received funding from Innovasjon Norge which help some start ups with finances in the preliminary stage of starting a company (market research, etc.).

Ha you know more.  ;) Say hi to them.

On topic: one payout per 2 years. The customers must be (business) media since that seems to sell. No glamor. Industrial editorial too.

I've seen pictures from Scanstock in several Norwegian (old) woman's magazines. You know; the type with knitting recipes and pictures of grandchildren. But the last time I glanced through one, most of the pics came from colourbox.

...one year later...

Do you have any sales at ScanStock?
I make 1 euro quarterly. I have to say that retro design of the site doesn't infuse me with optimism.

4 or 5 sales lately per month

10 sales on 2010
20 sales on 2011

10 sales/month average

may not seem much, but measured in proper units (2 pints and a glass) makes you happy anyway

Decided to join them in the end about 3 months ago. Got 1 sale first month then zero since. Port of about 380 with them at present.  Done a selective upload as they do not support vectors and I first wanted to see if it will be worth my while to upload my complete port. So far, I doubt it.

I get a handful a month. Every now and again I get a payout. The good thing about it is that the whole process is painless. I suppose they make a few hundred or even a few thousand euros a month and have to do very little work for it.

Generally one sale a month.
Title: Re: Scandinavian Stockphoto - How are your earnings?
Post by: gaja on November 05, 2011, 08:43
5-10 sales a month. But the pictures that sell there are very different from the ones that sell on SS and DT. It is obvious from my sales that ScanStock mainly focuses on the Scandinavian market, I think I've sold more cross country skiing pics on Scanstock alone, than on the other agencies combined. :)

I do not like that they keep so much of the money (flat rate of 1 Euro is not enough, considering they charge the customers 3-4 Euros/image), but they are helpfull, and pay their bills several weeks before the due date.

0 - 6 DL per month

I know this post is ancient - but wondering if anyone knows a Scandinavian site that does decently. Trad or midstock probably makes more sense for me because I have probably about 100-150 good stock photos from Sweden - and then some nice general snow/holiday and concept stuff that could sell anywhere, so @ 1 Euro a sale I'd never make a payout.

What does Paypal charge to change Euros to US Dollars? The same 3% as they do for credit card sales?

They dont charge a flat 3%  rate, they a apply a conversion rate, and as with all conversion rates, they fluctuate constantly,

Thanks Ron re Paypal - wasn't sure how it worked with Euros

Anyone know about the Scandinavian stock sites?

Truly feeble sales - nothing for months.
Stopping uploading and closing account. Not even worth leaving the pics there.

Saw this old thread pop up again. Is https://www.scanstockphoto.com/photo/index.php (https://www.scanstockphoto.com/photo/index.php) the only Scandinavian site out there? Just wondering if anyone knows of other sites that cater to Scandinavian imagery at traditional rather than micro prices?

There are some more, but ... for example YAY-Micro from Norway, with almost the lowest prices on the market. Stockphotomedia, located in Malmö, Sweden I believe, with better prices, but sales are down for me there. And of course Mostphotos, there you have the opportunity to turn off the subscription-sales. However all these agencies are low earners and not worth any effort in my opinion.

The good thing about Mostphotos is that their payout threshold is only 10 Euro. So that is actually one of the places I have the most regular payouts.
