I've been submitting to Image Brief for some time and recently won one brief for this:

for which I was awarded about $220. I've written a fuller explanation on my blog, but I find it really intriguing - partly as a way to make extra cash for my images, but mainly as a source of inspiration. lovely, and congrats. so, it is editorial and tourism stuff they are looking for, right?
which is much in the line of my work and interest . yes, and i do have images similar to what won you this award. ruins, ancient,etc..
i never thought there is much saleability in these stuff, as i travel alot and shoot them mostly for myself, although i did have some of my stock tourism being used in travel brochures and travel agencies catalogue. but as i said, i never investigated much aside from the top 5 which do not pay 200 for these sort of work, and so, i did not give them any.
thanks for sharing. i will certain use your link when i do find the time to join them, and give you the affliate honors. but first i have to get those out of my arquival.

To be honest, it is all sorts of things. They are often looking for images for book covers, then there are the real "hero" shots where they are offering $2500 for the image. A friend of mine got two awards for images that were ordinary people holding a white sign (that would presumably have a message added later). Some ones for St Martin recently wanted limited exclusivity, but there are often unrestricted travel shots that they are seeking.
To me, I enjoy the challenge of thinking of images that could meet the brief. There was one about delivering an envelope to a loved one. Gave me a lot of ideas about ways to show that concept:

I find it's too many buyers wanting very specific briefs freshly shot and submitted and not so much 'things on your hard drive' like it was supposed to be. It's like BuyRequest on iStock back when.

I made $250 a few months ago, just a simple shot of my feet.

I have one short listed, the deadlines seem to run for ever though.
Good concept, worth signing up and checking your emails to see if you have anything that fits.
Just goes to show RM is far from dead, bigger clients need images that aren't commoditised for their main campaigns.

More that they're willing to not pay a photographer's rates for a custom shoot and try to get the work done as cheap as possible.

I agree with Sean on this. It's an interesting concept but it mostly seems that they are getting a lot of photogs to shoot directed concepts on spec instead of assignment. Tying up the rights for extended periods is another downfall. I think it will just drive down the market for medium range assignment photography since they can get directed shoots in bulk at a lower cost. Then again, if you are indeed just using images that would not get sold otherwise, it's found money.

did i miss someting the image brief should not be exclussive pic? that means u can't submit it to any other agency or just stock and not micro stock?

and many of the briefs are MORE than covered by the stock sites.
"people using cell phones", "two teenage girls on beach" geeezzz...
