I was surprised to look at the top 50 photos for the last 10 days on shutterstock and see 16 of the 50 image purely nature (with no people).

Looks like nature can be profitable as well.

I noticed the same thing and thought it was curious since I had heard that nature stuff only does "OK".  It is good to know, since I do like to shoot nature.

Maybe it is a function of the trend to be more "green".  I saw a diswasher commercial on TV the other night that took place in a desert-type canyon with a hawk or falcon that flew in and landed on the diswasher.   I wouldn't have guessed that dishwashers would ever be marketed that way.

I think it is hard to make money with nature photos because there are so many of them.  The exceptional ones will still make money.  My latest of a duck probably wont Cry

Although nature photos do not sell well, they do seem to generate a higher percentage of EL's for some reason.  Maybe good calendar subjects?  A good nature photo is also timeless (hard to change a deer's hairdoo) so if search engines allow it, it could generate slow and steady sales forever, whereas people shots really only have a few years.

It's the subject I never shoot.   Mostly for lack of know-how......

However, I'm really excited to be going to Napa this Feb. along w/ the landscape/stock people I really  admire who are in our same boat,  Laurin Rinder, Jeff Banke, Alinta..... (free exept your travel)   we still have 8 places open ....... all the discussion about this meetup is at "SS~Anything Goes~ attending Laurins seminar" ( go to the end - pge 300-something)

I've been at these meet-ups between microstockers..... such a great learning & networking oppurtunity if any of you are interested.... or just pm me I'll put you on the list.....

I'll be in Napa, too, Becky!  :-)  Can't wait to meet everyone I missed the first time around.
