Brand spankin' newbie here.  So new that I don't have one image on SS. SS was the first that I downloaded to and I got rejected.  But some they did like, only I don't know which ones.  By looking I think I figured them out. Maybe by the end of this week I will be allowed to submit again.  My question, since I have been on lock down for a month and I resubmit and they accept all ten, and then I submit some more and are rejected, will I be on lock down for another month?

No, once you are accepted, you don't get locked out again, unless you violate some other rules. But if you keep submitting batches and they all get rejected, at some point, they can lock you out again. Read the forums, look at other stock sites, see what sells, learn your camera, practice, and keep working at it.

good luck with your resubmission.  they are a little tricky to get into if you haven't done stock before.  Once you get a few images on the other sites, you will probably get a good idea of what they might be looking for.

and watch out for noise on your shutterstock submission.

.... echo all  said above,     and don't be surprised if you  have to go through a few batches of rejections before you get in with SS.  I was rejected a couple times until  I finally figured out what they wanted.  Leaf  is 100% CO-rect!!  They are fanatical about noise.
I too went with SS first. After the intial rejection I tried  DT & BS and had success. After a getting a feel for it all, I went back and finally had success with SS. You might want to try a couple of the others first. The advice above is sound. I learned alot about this business on the forums, especially this one. Take it all in and you'll soon be adding up the sales.
   Welcome to the gang!

Thank you for the support everyone!  I have already submitted, been approved, and even sold a couple of images on Fotolia, Big Stock Photo & CanStockPhoto.  Got my clipping path down.  I'm enjoying every minute.  Just having fun!  I have also did an initial submission to iStock on Oct. 31st and I still haven't heard anything!  Do they normally take this long?

Hey dbvirago, what kind of motorcycle do you have.  I have a Honda 750 Aero.  I took the riders' safety course not too long ago.  I haven't even taken down the driveway yet.  My husband rides it to a school parking lot so that I can practice.  I'll get it though.  Just like I will get into SS.  I am always up to a challenge.  They're not gonna get me.  No, Sir!

I got denied on my first submission to SS too. Actually all 10 were rejected. A few had reasons on them, but most didn't. So I learned what I could from the other sites that I submit to and tracked my sales for a while. the ones that sold the best I took another really critical look at and then just crossed my fingers. I submitted a new batch of ten, which actually had a few from the original batch, and was accepted with 8 out of 10. I now have 42 out of 48 accepted and my sales are consistent, which is the only site they are. So, good luck and keep shooting!

Don't feel bad, Snapshot.  I got rejected twice (and was locked out of SS for 3 months each time because that used to be the lock out timeframe) before finally being accepted.  However, it was worth the effort.  Keep at it.  You'll succeed!

The golden rules for 10 initial SS are

No noise (make sure you are shooting at iso 100) if not get neatimage fast

a variety of photos

no sunsets, flowers, pets

don't upload anything which may have copyright/model release issues 9certain buildings randomn people lurking in the background)

In fact I would highly recommend submitting to FT,DT + BigStock first seeing what get accepted then submitting to SS. All those who have just been rejected be thankful they reduced the 3 month wait to 1 month.

and if you are shooting anything with a sky in it, give it a dose of neatimage even if you shot at iso 100

The wait used to be 3 months! Wow!  After looking at by photos better, I saw what they saw.  I have learned a lot in this month's waiting period.  I guess that's their point.  I have submitted to FT, BigStock, & Can Stock and was accepted and have sold a couple.  I don't have very many on each site as I work a full time job in sales.  But this is what I really want to do.  I may take me a couple of years, but I am working on it.  I have also learned that it takes forever typing in all of those key words, so what I do now is go to can stock first, use their keyword button, use the ones that apply, copy and paste them to a word document and I use those words on the other sites.  What a time saver!  I have another question that I see on these forums, what is "keyword spamming"?

Here is the definition of keyword spamming

Keyword Spamming

it is on the 'basically dead' microstock wiki that i created a while ago. :)  feel free to add any more info there if anyone wants.

it takes forever typing in all of those key words

i would suggest figuring out how to put the keywords in the iptc info.  Do a search for keywording or iptc on the forums here and you will find a fair bit of info on it.

note:  the search link is on the right about half way down under "user tools"

Oh, I thought that's what it meant.  Thank you.  No, I don't do that.  I'm all about competition and I want it to be fair.  So I'm not going to throw in a bunch of words that don't apply.  I have seen plenty on sites   that do.  That's just wrong.  Oh, by the way, BigStock just accepted 9 out of 10 this morning.  Woohoo!  Let me ask you this, I sent in my initial batch of photos to IS on Oct. 31st.  Still no response (11-15), does it take this long?

yep.

regular approval usually takes 1-2 weeks.  The first time approval can take 1-2 months i believe.

Not to hijack this thread, but I have a question about SS initial ten.

-If some (5) of my SS submission were good (5 rejected), can I inlcude those good 5 in my next ten (30-days later)?  Or does SS frown on that?

I've been accepted and have portofios (roughly 30-50 photos, still a newbie) on Istock, Dreamstime, Fotolia, Stockxpert, 123RF, Canstock, Bigstock, LuckyOliver and featurepics.  I'm averaging about 2 to 3 DLs per day now (via total of all sites).  I've submitted to SS twice.  All ten of first batch rejected (was the first site I submitted to, and the rejection was clearly justified).  On my second swipe (last week), I was at 50%.

Thanks for the thoughts...really enjoy this forum

I would include the five they liked.  If they liked them, they will like them again.  I know which ones they liked of mine and I plan to resubmit them when I am able to get back on, hopefully that will be this weekend.  Good Luck

unless those ones they liked are border line.  You can get different reviewers with different opinions and they might reject an image they accepted earlier.  If you think you have better other images, I wouldn't hesitate to submit them instead.  On the other hand, it isn't a bad idea to submit those ones they liked either. If you are unsure of your images it is probably the best plan.

Feel free to post thumbs of your images in the forum and we can give you some opinions.

I guess we could say this, "If in doubt, don't."

There is a lot of threads on the SS forum about resubmitting some of your original ten to find and the general advice there is NO-NO-NO! Btw It took me also a second round to get accepted. Another idea is posting the pics you plan to submit on the SS forum or a link here and we can all give our opinion. SY

That many people can't be wrong.  We need to listen.
