Title: Had a great April! :)
Post by: Mactrunk on May 01, 2013, 03:29
Added about 50 new images end ended up getting 442 DLS and $205.01 in earnings. I reached 309 images by the end of April. I certainly don't regret leaving Dreamstime exclusivity! I have over 500 images at Dreamstime but they only gave me $127 in earnings in April. Can't wait to get to 500 images at Shutterstock! Only bad thing is my camera is broke now.  >:( The turn wheel doesn't work anymore and this is the second time. It's a Nikon D5100. Still in its waranty but it will be gone for another 4 weeks now for repair and this will cost me many new images I could make in that time. Hope this doesn's return if it's out of waranty. But I'm going of topic now!  :P How was your april!?  :)

Congrats mactrunk!

I had a BME at SS, up by about 30% on previous BME (3 months ago).

holy moly that is a good result! I also got my port over the 300 mark (heading for 500 by end of May) but didn't do quite as well: 198DLs (just under $100) Wish I'd gotten one of those SODs that people were blessed with. I am $1 off going over the $500 mark and moving up a level, I've been watching it all day hoping I would tip over by April 30, no such luck.

All in all a BME for DLs and $ at SS.

bummer about the camera. surely you have enough stuff in your "to do" pile to keep you occupied?

Congrats Mactrunk!

@ Gillian... Good luck getting there asap! Everything gets brighter on the other side of a new level. :)

My month quite surprised me when I sat down and looked at the figures... It hadn't felt that good at the time, but ultimately it turned out to be quite close to my BME...

SS came in first, as usual.
iS came in second, but with about a third of the income of SS.

All agencies showed increases on previous month except for FT, CanStockPhoto, and Veer.

All showed increases on previous year except for CanStockPhoto.

twas also my second month in a row of sales every day, so i'm out of "fluke" territory. I just want to be there to see which image pushes me over into the new world. I don't watch much TV, so this is my entertainment tonight.

Congrats Mactrunk. That's a great result for 300 images. Good luck Gillian. Today you'll get into the 33 cent club and it does make a difference compared to 25 cents (it is after all ~30%) and larger than any future increase.
Pretty good month for me and a BME in downloads (310 on an average of 160 images) but less $$$ than March which was boosted by a $50 SOD and an EL. I only started on SS in June last year and have no direct monthly comparisons to make.

The only other one I'm at is FT which has picked up pretty well in the last month (since I've been uploading more). Compared to SS it's still pretty slow but not as slow as a couple of months ago.
Fast reviews (2 days or less) and 100% acceptance of recent uploads.

@ Gillian... yeah, it's much more entertaining to watch your own world ticking over into a better place.

Well done to you too OM.  Here's to more SODs though (for you and all).

My April was very good, maybe even BME when PP sales are added. Especially SS rocked :)

It's a Nikon D5100. Still in its waranty but it will be gone for another 4 weeks now for repair and this will cost me many new images I could make in that time.

There is always a  plenty that can be done without a camera; planning next shoots, finding props etc.

Yep! Treu. I am also making vector files so plenty to indeed. But they take more time and I have a huge list of things to shoot already. I also buy items for my shoots at second hand shops and have many laying around already. I keep a list of things to shoot that I want to shoot/create so the vectors will be done first now.

I did well (for what I have) this month, and would be a lot more encouraged if I didn't feel like they were planning to drag it all down with BS.

wow! over $200 on 300 images! I had only $235 on about 1,100 images  :(

Nice! I hope to get a minimum of $400 with 500 images. At least 100 images are from my starting days so I think the sales ratio will go up a little since my newest images sell faster and more than my first uploads.

BME :)

Have been on SS just the last five days of April with a total of 10 images.

Had my first two sales within a couple of hours of going online.

Ended up with 12 25-A-Day sales for a total of $3 !!!
Not bad for 10 images and 5 days.

I don't think it's the stuff he shoots but how he shoots it - have you taken a look at rimglow's portfolio?  Very simple isolations but beautifully executed - I'm not surprised he has such a high return.  Wish I knew how to make isolations like those - they are amazing.

@Rimglow ... aren't you the one who uses "stacking?"

It does look great, however it is done.

Thanks to everyone with the kind words. Yes, I use stacking for full focus, front to back. Most of my isolations are done with a clipping path.

I am pleasantly surprised at the amount of downloads i get on shutterstock. With around 150 vectors i have in my portfolio, this being my 3rd month on SS i made out to over $300 in dls with over 700 total dls this month, i cant complain. Made over $500 in total lifetime earnings last week since starting to upload my portfolio in end of january which bumped me up from .25 to .33 which helps greatly. I feel blessed it only took me less than 3 months to get the raise. the jump from $1.88 to $2.44 royalty on "on demand images" helps greatly.

How do I find links to your portfolios? I have over 50 photos on SS and have had 7 downloads. All 25c each. Mactrunk talks about making over 200$ from 50 pics. Need to understand what to shoot and if I am actually do that with limited amount of time I have to spend on photography

BME! Had $455 in SD's alone. 3 were for $112 each for a total of $572. Thanks SS!

Nice!!! This is the ratio I would like to have! :) I think vectors sell better than photo's? I found another comment were someone also sold onlu vector and had a great sales ratio! I'm also doing vectors now since my camera is in for repair so I'm hoping it will boost my sales. If I create the right vector images. ;)

Thanks! I just have to mention i have  over 15 years creating vectors so i have a bit of experience in that area. Anything you put hard work into will eventually pay off and this side income from SS definitely helps alleviate some of the bad taste in my mouth from istock.

All the best for 400. I still have 50+ and almost zero sale. 😞
