Topic: March Survey Please - what earnings level are you on SS?

Survey of the month club: A question I always wondered about while reading the forum.

 From the Shutterstock FAQ:

How much will I be paid as a submitter?

Our current payout rate for Standard License 25-A-Day Subscription downloads is: $.25 (25 cents per image download). After earning a total of $500, your rate increases to $.33 per download. Once you surpass a total lifetime earnings of $3,000, your rate will increase to $.36 per download, and after you reach $10,000 in lifetime earnings, your rate will increase to $.38 per download.

Please don't answer what you'll be getting in two months, or what you hope will happen. The question is as of March 1st 2010, what level were you.

I added one for subscription dissenters and IS exclusives, should you wish to plunk down a vote so you can see the results. I'll change that in April if it doesn't show to all.

If I did this right the poll will run until March 31st.

As usual the MSG forum people are ahead of the bulk of the contributors to any site. Cheesy

Only 25% in round numbers have less than $500 in total sales? WOW!

The poll results are a bit surprising. Given that it is not that hard to get to 0.36$, but much harder to get to 0.38$ (the gap between 3K$ and 10K$ is huge, compared to the others), I would expect statistically that the majority would be in the 0.36$ group. But they are only at 23%. The conclusion would be that respondents follow a bimodal distribution with mostly beginners and experts and that the middle-class is underrepresented. A "normal" distribution would be a pyramid with a fat belly and a tiny spear on top.

True, but did you see the "Survey of the Month"  Wink for Feb. asking how many files do you have on IS? Clearly the members here are way above the IS general population.

I expected it to be high again on SS but never expected that so many would be in the over $10,000 in sales group. That's in the 40,000 licenses each for 26 people. Which works out to over 1 Million served!  Grin

The two populations are probably partly mutually exclusive or biased since an IS exclusive won't answer the SS poll. The opposite can also be true. I know one large uploader that contrates on SS, and that, since he is working alone, doesn't find the time to upload to IS any more. Guesswork...

The figures are going to be MUCH higher than that as that is the minimum that is needed and many of the people that completed the survey would have reached that figure ages ago.

Ah yes, but as people reach 33c and 36c they need less files sold to make more dollars, so the number of files licensed to reach each dollar level goes down a slight bit. I also could have mentioned that people with good quality will have ELs at $28, it doesn't take 112 downloads for the same amount of money. So I just rounded down to 1 million sales. It wasn't a scientific estimate just a play on the "One Million Served"  Grin

I also have to agree that since the IS exclusives either wouldn't answer, even with a response for their case, they also wouldn't have any reason to read the SS forum here. I'm not sure what the percentage of regulars here are IS exclusives, something in the back of my mind says 23%, so the figures would be missing whatever number of people are high earners on IS and also exclusive.

One more week and the poll ends, the number of responses is 20-30% below the numbers I often see for polls here, which by co-incidence is the approximate number of IS exclusives. (or I'm just imagining that?)
