Since I started selling my photos in microstock I have learnt to HATE weekends! I had only four sales yesterday! And today I have had only one sale so far! Not that the sales on weekdays are so perfect but the weekends are really horrible.

It is interesting to hear everybody moaning about summer slowdown! In fact July and August were much better for me than September has been so far.

8,6,7,1,2,3,3
This is my sales count since the start of September. the last two numbers are from this week-end.
Oh, and it helps to post on "Show me..." threads: for the second time now I had a sale of a photo, which never sold before, minutes after posting it on such a thread!

I have more downloads today (sunday) than on friday! 35 vs 30.

Yesterday (saturday) -  20 dls.

Thats pretty low, considering my average of 80-100 dls per good day.

I'm beginning to expect Zero days at weekends.
The odd weekend you might escape with 1 or 2 downloads.

Well, again it only makes sense to come to reasonable conclusion that there is third party responsible for this rash of poor performance in our portfolios.

Since i feel the least affected by this monstrous demon, I feel obligated to seek out and destroy what ever this evil do'er,  money thieving entity is.

I will let you all know when i have destroyed it

what is going on with SS? lower and lower sales each week.

are there too many photographers, and too little buyers?

I think all other sites took some of subs buyers from SS, when they introduced their subs plan.

Same here. It is true that I'm not adding as much material as I used to but I don't see any bump in sales when new images get accepted. September looks to be about 40% down on my BME (June 2008).

The bottom ?  You are optimistic methinks. It is still a long way to go, then we hit the bottom - and then we start digging.

This month SS is #5 for me...yes, #5, after DT, StockXpert, iS, 123RF, and barely ahead of Fotolia and BigStock. No kidding. Something must have happened - otherwise I can't explain literally hitting a wall. Downloads have been steadily creeping down for the last couple of months - but September looks like WME...

To be quite honest, I think that the competitions (and yes, I have been a part of them) have done as much to oversaturate ss as anything else.  It used to be that if you downloaded regularly, even if not very many, that you'd be able "keep current".  But now we have a few photogs who are madly uploading hundreds of images per batch just to be at the top of the current challenge, and in order to keep current, you better be able to come up with significant volume!

Hum... no changes in rejections for me since one year, my last batch 100% accepted, 90% average acceptation.
Can you tell us the reasons ? Noise? Colors? Subject? ????,

I, too, have seen a marked increase in rejection in the past couple of months.  Last batch had 9 out of 11 rejected. (most approved on other sites).  Most common reasons are composition, uneven lighting and focus not where they thought it should be.

With so many contributing these days SS can afford to be fussy.

This looks like the future - It's going to push us all to raise our quality standards.

There is a limit how far the quality can be raise with only 25 cents per image...

Exactly. It is ridiculous if the agencies (mostly iStock) are searching our pictures with a microscope for teeny faults and then they sell them for a few cents in their bloody subscription plans.

How do you think this is affecting overall sales and downloads?

My downloads also have decreased consistently since they implemented the OD feature, not much boost from new uploads either.

in my opinion by introdusing OD they destroy the inovativation of the site.

Once the customers could download 25 images per day, they ( customers) try to do so downloading images that they don't even want them at the moment just to build a portfolio.

As a conclusion of that (in my opinion) there were alot of downloads for photographers witch even with that tiny fee of some cents  make us some money overall by the end of the month.

The site get earnings by the non downloaded images then and every one was a bit happy i guess.

By OD there is no hurry to download images more than they (customers) want to use.

That's my opinion

I think you hit it. All the higher up agencies have been tightening the standards. Then what others have said, the volume of new photos and photographers, everywhere, means less exposure and less percentage of the total sales. More competition is changing things, just like subscriptions have lowered the pay per photo.

If it wasn't easy before, it's not getting any easier now. Lower pay per photo, more competition, more photos = lower income.

Istock suscription plan isn't bloody at all, it's great, the only one that gives you the same, or just tiny cents less, that it was a regular sale.
