Title: SS programming egg?
Post by: sharply_done on September 14, 2007, 18:29
I recently began overhauling my SS portfolio, and one of the things I'm doing is appending stuff to the 'Description:' field. One of the words I'm adding is "Shutterstock', and their dictionary doesn't recognize it as a valid word, so it offers up this suggestion:

The word Shutterstock in the 'Description' field may be misspelled. Suggested alternate spellings are Shutterstock, Shutter-stock, Shittiest, Shortest, Headstock, Shortstop, Feedstock, Rootstock, Chattiest, Shadiest. If the spelling is correct, make no changes and click the Save button again.

Try it yourself, I'm not making this up!

This may be a silly question, but ... why are you adding the word 'Shutterstock' to the description field of an image on Shutterstock?

Is there something we don't know?   :)

Spam? How is adding something to the description considered spam?

What I'm doing can in no way be considered spam - not even by the loosest definition. Before making a comment like that, perrush, you should perhaps investigate what I'm adding to my descriptions, and why.

Are you adding "this is the best you will find on shutterstock"  :)

Nope, but close.

I'm adding "... visit my gallery to see Shutterstock's largest aircraft collection", which is absolutely true.

What happens to the iptc data we provide - does the agency erase it?  If they DON'T, wouldn't including the agency into your data be a good way to track illegal use of the image (if those stealing aren't smart enough to wipe it clean before using?) and to demand that Shutterstock assist with such claims?

Admittedly, way more work to make a different file for each site, and it would have to be digital use to find a theft.

Is this allowed?  I hope so as then I will definatly do the same but I seem to remember reading in the SS forums that it isn't allowed.

Ah ... that explains it. When you wrote "... one of the words I'm adding  ..." it sounded to me like you were adding just the word itself, not a phrase containing the word.

Thanks for the clarification. It had mystified me.

I remember this happening to  me too.sometimes altough I correctly spell some words(sorry I can't give an example as I don't remember one ) I get this kind of warning message and first suggested  spelling exactly the same as I'd had.it's a little confusing. I am not saying it happens always but it could be about some particular words.
It must a bug or something

I don't see why it wouldn't be, but I'd better check before proceeding further.
