The easiest way to destroy Shutterstock?

1. Lift upload limit at iStockphoto [check]
2. Transfer the images to Thinkstock [processing]
3. Lower subscription prices at Thinkstock.
Done.

And Thinkstock pays more for sub sales. (if you're exclusive)

They wouldn't mind Shutterstock, non-exklusives would...  ;)

4. Create an upload and submission process that doesn't make submitters want to kill.
5. Relax the infuriating model release rules.
6. Undo the last few years of abusing and lying to submitters.

Yeah, like any of that's going to happen.

Then there is Plan B

B as in Bridge to Bigstock which already has bottom feeding subscription prices and royalty rates.

this thread should be called "the easiest way to kill the stock industry"
submit to all subscription sites. sell your images for as cheap as you possibly can.

I'm not sure other subscription services are a huge threat to SS. They've got that part of the market pretty well locked up. I would think if something is going to threaten them it would be at the higher end of the market. It would have to lure contributors away from them which would probably mean they are paying a lot better and a lot more. I don't see a company right now that is doing that with a large number of contributors. Smaller agencies like Stocksy could chip away at them, but you'd need a lot of Stocksies to do it.

The easiest way to destroy Shutterstock?
Any reason for this?

considering most of the actual SS buyers were previously alienated by istock and left in droves, why should they ever go back just to save a few pennies ?

too late for IS, they shot themselves in the foot and how long it lasted ? 2 yrs ? now they're a dead man walking and desperate to recoup market share, sorry but the golden age of IS is finished and they can only blame themselves.

Did IS shoot themselves in the foot, or did the greedy bankers at H&F who purposely harvested the company before flipping it for a huge profit start the demise? Once bankers get involved, it's game over. Same goes for publicly traded companies such as SS, it's only a matter of time. The shareholders profits, dividends, and CEO bonuses will far outweigh in priority the benefits towards the contributors.
Sadly to say, the whole stock industry is so close to Check Mate for contributors it's scary.

I find the title of the thread inappropriate, and I am not sure why this thread was started. However, the only way to create problems for Shutterstock is when all buyers start to download their full image quota.

1 - if SS ever goes down it won't be because of iStock, believe we don't need to talk about all the moves they have made in the past years that contributors will never forget (many exclusives included) from the introducing of the RCs, 15% royalties, google deal, buyers bailing, 456 collections, 349 pricing changes, best match tweaks etc etc

2 - don't understand what is your point here but I can tell that FT will never be number 1, yes you would love that so I would say keep on collecting while they adore you, after that you can always start loving SS because they will put the bread on your table :D

now I will stop being harsh and say #irony #off

I say, vote for Number Six!  ::)

To the rest of the thread:

Nothing will destroy SS except building something better. Think constructive and progress as a better way to beat the competition.

Seriously, all microstock site that offer subscription should be all destroyed.

But as long there are contributors who are unwilling to lose their miserable earnings and Cheapskate Buyers with limited budgets, subscription sites will still be alive.

I don't want to bring anyone down. I want all sites to keep doing well.

I would prefer subs to not be full size downloads, that is wrong.

Luis, sorry, I forgot that sarcasm and irony are ways that do not transfer well to the written language.

Try reading my post as a way how not to destroy Shutterstock when you do not follow the steps outlined.

I read it as you thought that was IS's plan not what you wanted to  happen.

The best way for SS to be destroyed is for it to self-destruct, by becoming iStock.

Start by favoring some contributors over others. Open an exclusive artsy-crapsy-Vetta-like collection, to alienate and insult most of your best contributors by not even allowing them to apply.
