SS Closed early for the weekend?

"It's taking longer than usual to process your files. If you don't see all your files after refreshing, please check again later."

Only 15 of 35 made it to the submit queue.

Never happened during my entire time here until two days ago. Wonder why this is happening.

Started about a week ago for me. Even though I have only been sending small batches daily (less than 10) almost half of them never appear and have to be submitted with different captions. After the latest massive drop in sales I am seriously thinking about not submitting any more until something changes. First the payment for ELs was reduced and then they almost stopped after the introduction of the SODs, now the SODs seem to have stopped as well.
Maybe there is a good reason that SS like to keep contributors guessing what they are up to in case we all rebel and stop uploading content.

you said: "almost half of them never appear"

I am a computer programmer and have maintained computer networks for many years.

the number one cause of the type of problem you describe is lack of disk space. the second likely cause will be throttleing which can be caused by CPU processes or disk I/O.

I would guess they ran out of disk space on a temporary drive. they probably didn't make their temporary drive big enough and they hit the limit once in a while.

the database has a record for the file, but the file fails to copy to the temporary drive, and then the file doesn't exist on disk, but it exists in the database, so you see the info online but the file disappeared.

it is possible a lot of files are being transferred across an internal network, and the connection drops, and instead of resuming the file transfer, they abandon it, and then you have half-sent files that cannot be processed because they are not properly written and get rejected. but they are still in the database as explained before. that's another possibility.

it is easy to fix. the problem is people don't know how to fix it. the first thing you might think is to check if each file is transferred properly. but the problem is that you have to determine which files you have already checked, and which files have not been checked yet. technically you need to recheck every file, every time you check, which would take forever. so they would need a system to put the file into a batch, because the files might not be submitted in the same order as their id's. then you just check each batch, and if the batch is good, you never check it again, and if the batch is bad, you resend all the problem files. but if the logic is not in their system then they will lose files.

"Your uploaded files are processing. We'll let you know when they're ready." Something is seriously wrong there.

they lost around 35 pics in my case, the pic have never reappeared. If I try to upload them again, SS tells me that my photos are in process ... This is already 2 days!

My solution has been to upload all of the batch - of the ones that don't make it, rename the remaining files by adding a number or letter to the file name and resubmit until it's done. Definitely a pain in the ass, but eventually it works. Let them figure out to do with all the files that disappeared.

my belief is that the files are being lost when you submit them for review.

I have reduced the number of files I submit per batch and temporarily delayed submissions presuming that after a few days the  problem will go away.

This problem is getting worse. I just tried submitting a "batch" of 2 files, 3 different times with 3 different filenames, and none of them showed up any time.

Some of my files that got lost in the upload appears a day or two later. They must have made a charge couple weeks ago to prevent you from keep uploading the same files.

For such a big site with so much money, they sure suck at engineering their uploader. Instead of fixing this issue, which had been around for years, they charged their once amazing submit screen into the awful submit screen we have today.
