Just uploaded another batch to SS to breakthrough the first-10 wall.  Afterwards I noticed that it was exactly one year ago today that I was last rejected. :)

Life keeps you busy sometimes.

Yeah, I took my third "test" the other day with Shutterstock. I used five images from the past that had been accepted by Shutterstock on a previous "test", but those five were all rejected. Only two pictures passed. It's kind of like playing the lottery. I wasn't surprised, though. Someone on these forums told me that Shutterstock doesn't always accept images that have passed in previous batches. I find Shutterstock to be one of the most bizarre microstock companies to exist. Some say iStockphoto is the most difficult, but I think Shutterstuck is far worse. If I ever do pass this "test" then I expect to get about two photos into this agency per year. Low expectations.  ;D

Two failed images that passed the first test but not the second:

I felt the same way about Shutterstock after my first rejection - but then I (barely) squeezed in the second time and I am loving it.  My rejection rate isn't outrageous, I have (small) batches where all pics get approved and I have build my second largest portfolio there (238 pics since May - not too shabby for a weekend photo warrior with currently no studio access).  You will learn pretty quickly what they accept and what they probably won't so you can custom-tailor your submissions.

So, I guess what I am saying is: once you are in life gets easier and what is more, what gets accepted sells with very few exceptions.  Since May I have made more money on SS than all the other microstocks I joined last year in July (still not rich  :-[)
So keep at it, it's worth the trouble, really.

I second every Tina's word. As frustrating as rejections are, once you overcome this barrier and get a handle on what they want, you will be glad you did

Well... fast response today.

They Sunk My Battleship!

All 10 rejected, including 5 or so that were previously accepted. :)

Oh well.  The 30 day thing is working it seems, so I may try again another time.

I still think once five images pass, they should carry over to the next test. So you would only need to submit five images on the next test, and only two of those images would need to be accepted. But I'm not running Shutterstock, unfortunately.

peiklk,

if you have thick skin and can take criticism in a non-personal way, go to SS forums, posr link to all 10 and add 100% crops and ask for help. There will be someone able to give you detailed outlook on each of them. Then someone will add something different. You will redo photos and ask again. Etc... entire process will be invaluable for getting accepted next time.

Sorry for the foreword, I don't mean to sound patronizing, it's just that many can't seem to detach themselves from their photos and take rejections and criticism painfully.

Thanks for the tip!  No offense taken.
