I'm running a contest on 99designs for a new logo for MicrostockGroup.  I've been thinking it's time for a little face lift.  If anyone here is active on that site, feel free to submit a contest entry.

Are you the only one able to see the designs or will I be able to see them if I create an account?

It's a 'hidden' contest so no-one except me can see them before the end of the contest.  When the final round comes though, I'll create a poll to get user input from here.

I predict some awesome designs given the talent of some of the guys on MSG!

Also good to see you aren't low balling the price too much. You'll get better work for it.

I wouldn't submit an entry as I hate contest sites  :)

I never design a logo without getting paid in advance.. and there are no refunds.. the customer is going to like the first draft or the customer is going to like the first draft..  :D

I hope it's going to be great though.. msg does need a proper logo..

Looking forward to seeing it..

I noted that the required format is a multi layered vector. In fact, that seem to be the standard for almost all the logos, or do they accept JPG images as well?

I believe that $299 is the lowest that you can price a logo on that site.

that's right.  I've often went with that price but went with the middle price on this one as this site is a bit more established.

I'm also opposed to contest sites.  If you're doing work it's work and you should get paid for it.

But you get what you pay for ... that site is crawling with scammers and rip-off artists and you'll never be 100% certain of the integrity of the work.

I'm sure that there are many people that feel the same way about microstock...

That's a little different :)  It's not like in Microstock you ask all the photographers to go out and do a custom shoot for free and then only pay one.

No offense meant of course, just as a designer I'm not a terribly big fan of sites like this.

People DO say that!  But when you do microstock, you're doing work for yourself, not a client.  You license the use of your work but you still own that work.  If you're licensing RF, you can still put the same images to work doing other, non-RF things (zazzle stuff, for example). If you design a logo as part of a contest and aren't selected, you've worked for nothing and because the work is so specific, you can't benefit from it later.

But the real concern is the rip-off artists. Google "99 designs ripoff" and read story after story after story ...

This site where you purchase contest is pure SCAM.

I'm a designer myself, but I can see many of the submissions to various contests being tweaked slightly and reused for another client. I'm a strange sort anyway, as I WON'T accept any payment from new clients until I've produced a design that they approve. I often re-purpose unused designs and I would rather not have to (a) refund money... it breaks my heart! or (b) get stuck working with an impossible-to-please client. I value my sanity more than money!
