Hi Leaf,

I have a suggestion. Can you limit the daily amount of minus votes per person?

Not only related to me, it seems that people get voted down for simple things as thanking someone, asking questions, stating facts, whatever, and its annoying and adds nothing to any discussion. I see this happening on a lot of posts lately from several people.

I believe people vote on liking the person or not rather then the contents of the comment. This is also related to lurkers who just vote people down.

If everybody has 3 minus votes per day, they would have to think where to put them and only place them where they feel its best, instead of voting down every single post. And if someone runs out of minus votes, they can come back the next day to vote a comment down, if its really that important to place a down vote.

What do you think?

Don't take it so personally.  It's just the internet.

Sorry to writing to this thread, but I dont want to create separate thread for this.

My suggestion is that it would be also good if there was displayed how much +(pluses) and -(minuses) one received near every post.
Not only total result.

It would much better describe overall picture of post quality based on voting in my opinion.

Phew! Someone didn't like that comment, Sean. I'll bet you're sorry you said it, now.

Seriously, all the votes are meaningless. It's just funny when you say "Thank you" and get -2 for it.

If you really want to know how many people hate you, compared with those who love you, you could ask Tyler to list ALL the votes rather than allowing them to cancel each other so you might get "-37 +35" instead of just -2.

@ Sean, its not about taking it personally, it just doesnt add anything to the discussion to vote posts down over nothing. But you do have a point.

@ Baldrick, that would also be a good option for sure.

Can I sell my extra ones to people that need more?  ;D

If people are spewing out an unusually large amount of rubbish, why is the "solution" to that to limit how many minuses readers can give?

I don't have much time for the + and - votes, but limiting the quantity makes a not great situation really terrible, IMO.

If you're going to have feedback, let people give feedback, whether positive or negative, in whatever quantity they see fit. If there's some sort of personal vendetta going on, Tyler can take away a person's ability to give any feedback (or if he can't, that's a suggestion that it should be possible to ban someone from the feedback feature)

Because people cant handle the power of the min vote.  :)

They must be people who are terribly unfamiliar with having any sort of power at all, then!

The minus vote allowance should be determined by the formula n+1, where n is the number of posts by Ron within the previous 24 hours.

So you are the one voting all my posts down? Come one, you shouldnt waste any time one me and my dumb comments.

I can't understand why people are affected when getting negative votes or happy if votes are positive. It's beyond me.

Ok, bad idea, but I do like the suggestion of Jereso and Baldrick. Just show the tally for both votes.

I agree it would be very helpful to see the + and - count of votes.  It is in the plans but will take a bit of work.  It's not in the original mod so I'd have to code it myself.

I can also remove the ability for people to vote and if I notice a vote spammer then it is very easy to remove their voting ability.

I think it would be cool so too, but I do not want to be responsible for seeing Tylor yawning at the code at 4 in the morning just because of our unlimited feature greed... hehe

I would rather we didn't have the +1 -1 thing but as we do have it, I try to abuse it as much as possible :)

the ability to minus or heart a post become ridiculous because now we are giving hearts or minus any time any day without much "value" (not to mention that the person in question won't even know), the previous version was ideal

Ron made a suggestion had 7 minus, Sean said don't take it personally which in fact for the person opening the thread must be quite irritating, that got him over 10 hearts

How do you know that there are lurkers who just vote people down?

Come on guys one more down vote to hide the OP.  Who is going to sink me? The winner get an extra down vote added to his quota.

Chill out Ron, you have a good balance, which means most people find your posts valuable or interesting. You got a minus? Move on, man, life is too short to worry about it.

The OP is in general, not for me. Check the comments on the site, the most normal posts get voted down.

Anyhoo, thanks, I guess.
