A couple of changes took place - so I am looking for your feedback.

First, after a request from a few members I have included the author of the thread on the front page.
Question:  what do you think of the placement.  I could let it have it's own column if that provided a better overview.  The problem with too many collumns is that it can start to look over crowded (which the forum is perhaps all ready suffering from)

Does anyone miss a column on the front page that shows how many posts a thread has?

I have changed the front page so that when a topic is 'new' instead of the 'new' icon coming up, the subject is bold instead of regular.  any thoughts?.. like / disklike

It would be nice if author's name appear at each heading in the thread, not just the first one. Also now when I click on the thread it does not automatically scroll down to the last message.

Really dislike the bold subject. The font looks like it's size 50. Bring back the new icon or at least make the font a normal size.

lol .. i think i was just fiddling with a few options when you posted.  it is back to normal now.  I agree that was too large.

One thing, kinda minor, that link at the top that shows the thread currently being looked at, would be very cool at the bottom of the page as well.  That way, after reading a thread, you can link out of it instead of scrolling back to the top.  I like the new layout.

another feature is the inclusion of the wiki icon when you are writing a post.

This makes it easy to link to something in the 'knowledge base' aka wiki ... it isn't used very much yet, but hopefully it will be useful in the future once a few more pages get added.

Like this for example
[wiki=BBCode]BBCode How to[/wiki]

Much better. I guess I'm liking the new way better. Seems like it's easier to tell what's new without having to look for the icon.

To be honest I didn't even notice the author change until I read your post. I think the author's name should be a bigger font because it's very small on my screen(1440x900) and I think I'll still miss it when I'm looking for it.

I think that the new author feature is good.

Here is another suggestion -

I think that having the author and last poster in the same column might make it easier to read.  Include the original poster and last poster in the same column, but separate the two by a slash (/).

The header of the column might read "Author/Last Poster".  And the column would contain values such as "leaf/GeoPappas", etc..

Anyway, just a thought.

yeah i had thought about that, but I hate getting the last poster/ author mixed up, which might happen if they are in the same column.  I have put them closer though and made the left side cleaner.... perhaps this is somewhere between your idea and mine?!

I would kind of like to see this. Kind of  nice for when someone needs help but not many are replying. I don't need at all to see a "number of views" column. That is pretty much useless.

Good work Leaf, don't spend too much time on this and neglect your own images, we're not worth it  Cheesy

I really like the bold/regular display - very easy to tell what you haven't looked at.

As far as the column saying how many posts, I didn't know there was one (i.e. I must have looked right through/past it) so I don't miss it Smiley

no, there wasn't one Smiley
I am wondering how many people miss it not being there (some forums have it)

Great job Leaf.  I really appreciate the author listing for each thread.

Leaf,

I have a suggestion.  Having both the author and the last post is a neat addition.  I believe however that we have very a loss of space horizontally with the poll results.

We could have the last post name just below the date/time, so both would be in the same column.  Some site forums do that (DT and FP, at least).

Another savings we could have is to have the poll results in the main page and in the forum link only.  Why have it in every message we read or reply?  Unless it is complicate to do that, I think it would be an improvement.

And you can already remove LO from the poll.  It's useless now. Roll Eyes

edited: I do miss the number of posts in each thread, but not desperately.

Regards,
Adelaide
