There has been a lot of ancient threads brought up by new members recently. Some others make the effort to post things like "OLD THREAD ALERT" which is a bit of a time saver but I'm wondering: on the home page, where all the latest posts are listed, is it possible to add the original post date beside the thread author? That would let people know at a glance that they're visiting an old topic.

Just a thought.

I agree. If newbies just posted in recent threads it wouldn't be so bad. One person admitted they do it to get their posts up so that they can include links.  I mean, just post in recent threads as +1, or I agree like others do.
