Here's the deal.

I have an advertising budget for Microstockgroup and I could just spend it all in Google Adwords or somthing, but I saw the Charity Water campaign last year some time, I liked it but never did anything about it.  I recently stumbled upon it again and thought to put something into action.

Here is a bit about the charity

So anyhow here's how it'll work.  I'll donate $1.00 to CharityWater for every time someone tweets on twitter with the hash tag #tweetwater and usertag @microstockgroup.  I have $1,000 to spend and am hoping to use everything on this campaign.  I have until Dec. 31 to get this done.  Your tweet could look something like this
Quote
Give free water with a tweet @microstockgroup #tweetwater

Here is the MicrostockGroup charitywater page
http://mycharitywater.org/microstockgroup

And here is the tweet water page
http://mycharitywater.org/tweetwater

If you want to make a donation there yourself, feel free to do so - it is really a great cause and 100% of the donations go to building wells.  But at the least send a tweet and make ME pay :)

here's another video

I'll keep this thread posted on the progress.

Great campaign, Tyler.
I'm going to shout it out and make my donation :-)
No idea for counting tweets... when I've done a twitter contest, I used the search tool but probably there is something more sophisticated.
Ciao,
       R.

Great idea, I'll do it even if I don't really use Twitter for anything.  I'll spread the word anyway.

All I have to do it to send a twit with tha sentence you wrote, right?

Here in Brazil we have a huge area subject to draught most of the year. When it rains, it rains well, but water goes away. A NGO builds tanks to collect rainwater, what is actually very cheap (each cost around US$600 and is built by the local people with assistance of the NGO) and allow them to have water for their crops - thus for food - the whole year.

Little things we can do to change people's lives.

The one time I tried to do something like this, any searching for my tag got me about 3 results and then "older tweets not available".  At that point, I figured twitter was pretty useless.

Thanks, guys, but don't expect many news from me. I had to get my little note book (paper I mean) to see what was my password at Twitter.   ;D

If I ask non-photo friends to twit that, does it count?

A friend has just sent a tweet, how long will it take to show one more in that stats page?

That is a really nice thing to do. I am hugely impressed by such kindness. "APPLAUSE"

I've just bought a pair of great shoes which is linked to the same charity. If I buy a pair they donate a pair and they are really cool.

Thanks.  The #tweetwater thing is obviously just a form of advertising so the kindness of it should be viewed in context but at the same time I thought it would be better that Charity:water get the advertising $$ than google adwords.... so if it can work then great.

Yeah, I heard about the tom's shoes thing the other day on Gizmodo I think.  Great idea.

I had meant this: http://hashtags.org/tweetwater
but now I see I have to click on the graph to see the twits below.

I see two of my friends, one twitted twice.

@madelaide.  ahh ok, glad you figured it out.  I haven't been using that page very much.  I have been looking at this page to track results
http://www.hashtracking.com/fast-report/?hashtag=tweetwater
It only counts for 24 hours though so I have to check in every day at the same time to get the new count.
