Too bad you did not take in consideration SS, that is where I have a lot more images and more sales.

I do not believe it is possible with SS since they do not report out as DT and IS do ...

Mark

And even if they did, I would expect a "nice" speedometer reading would mean something like 3000+ DLs per month there. And I don't think there are too many people are in that club.

That's a neat idea Leaf...

But, would you mind bumping up my sales a bit so mine look better? :-)

By request you can now hide either your stat's gauge, portfolio links or both.

If you go into your PROFILE > FORUM PROFILE INFORMATION

near the bottom you will see two check boxes.

If you want to have the gauges show when you post but not the portfolio links, check the 'hide portfolio link' box.

If you want to have the portfolio links show but not the gauges, check the 'hide gauges' box.

If you check both boxes, both the portfolio links and the gauges will be hidden.

thanks for this, just posting to check if it's worked!

EDITED TO ADD:

Doesn't look like it's worked yet but guess it takes a bit of time to get the info from IStock and DT after putting in the user name for those sites in the profile section?

that's right.  If you have entered your user information for dreamstime and istock but have it hidden it will still take 1 day for the gauges to show up.

I don't want to overload the dreamstime or istock servers so it only looks at your profile once a day.

This is pretty cool but as others have noted if you're going to measure credibility maybe portfolio performance instead of size would be a better measure to me. I realize this is somewhat of a gimmick but if you're going to do it for a reason, do it right.

IS examples using the current method:

User 1: Joined in Jan 2003, 900 images, 100 downloads = 1,000
User 2: Joined in Jan 2007, 100 images, 900 downloads = 1,000

They would have identical gauges and to me they are on the opposite ends of the spectrum with credibility. So now when I see a gauge it really means nothing to me.

Measure earnings per image averaged over membership time or something similar.

well earnings per image average again takes into account their portfolio size and can result in the same problem.  Additionally the portfolio size accounts for a very small % of the rating by nature and so it is mostly about sales.  Someone who is a diamond on istock (25,000 sales) would put the symbol at full throttle.  Most of the diamond photogs. have between 1000-2000 images that is as low as 4% of the total.

if we wanted to add time into the equation and went downloads / time online how about this example

User 1: joined Jan 2003, didn't upload much of anything for 4 years, then uploads 1000 images and gets 1000 sales.
User 2: joined Jan 2007 uploads 1000 images right away and gets 1000 sales.

Users 2 would have a WAY better gauge yet user one has been around a lot longer.

Whatever way we calculate it, there is going to be a problem with it.

I chose port size as a factor because when we are talking about sales trends it is nice to know port size.  In the same breath, if you have a small port. but lots of sales, you have a good idea of sales trends as well.  Therefore sales and port size should make up what you know about sales trends.

Since the people who have been online longer have more experience and data to look at, and the people who are online shorter perhaps have more sales, they weigh eachother out.

I agree that downloads the previous month would be the best but the sites don't supply this and I don't feel just using the registration date is an accurate solution.

no matter how it is calculated there is going to be a better way, this is just for fun, and probably shoudln't be analyzed to death - but perhaps that is too late.  :)

I think for sjlocke we need a count under the gauge: how many times he made the full circle :)

I thought it was based on performance rather than size, my folio isn't huge, I am a diamond at IS though.
I think it works pretty well if you check the gauges of members then look at their accounts (those who are not anonymous, like me  ;)) they tie in pretty well with who is more credible, or knows more about the business.
Isn't that the best test of whether they work?

Red Line, Red Line... Shift!  ;D

If they adjust the gauge for people like you, everyone else will be down on the bottom left. (which I am anyway)

Don't honk, I'm pedaling as fast as I can.

And remember the gauges are only updated once a day, so no matter if you hide your portfolio links or not, you will not see the gauges for the first 24 hours.

haven't been here a while.  Looks like some good changes have been made.  Just want to see how slow I am going.

Well, as these meters are from dt and is, I now know that I will have absolutely no credibility here, so I will probably only visit from time to time to ask stupid questions and add absolutely nothing!

Rats.
