Hi guys.

I have been using Microsoft and recently got an apple laptop and discovered that irfanview is not compatible to Apple Macbook for iptc upload and adding of infor to photos. Can you please help me by telling me what alternative i have to this? What free software can I use? Thanks! ??? ???

I don't know ifranview and I don't use myself a free software (I use Adobe Bridge to manage keywords), but you can try GraphicConverter which is a shareware. A very complete graphic toolbox, but its interface is quite messy IMHO. I don't know how it compares to ifranview however.

But I guess you have iPhoto 08 and you may also investigate a little bit this option. I don't know or use iPhoto myself, but if you Google it, you can find that there is for example what seems to be an interesting keyword manager plug-in available here.

Here are a few.  I forget the one I used to use, but I can't seem to find it anymore.  It didn't work so flawlessly, so you're probably better off.

Maybe try some of these:

I am using all my favorite PC software (including deep meta for iStock submission) on Mac with the aid of Windows XP installed under VMware Fusion.

I am doing keywording directly in Photoshop but if you want alternative way you can do it in
iView media or in iView media PRO too.
It is faster than Graphic converter and have fast access for preview thru right click on mouse.
Othervise Graphic converter is better for comparing two or more images in same time in 100% view and also better for converting to the other formats, while iView media is only fast viewer.

I used iView Media Pro before, not now it has been aquired by Microsoft and renamed to Expression Media  >:(

iView was indeed a good choice, but it's not free.

Not free either... if you are ready to purchase a software (and you should), you may indeed consider Microsoft iView/Expression Media, Adobe Lightroom, Apple Aperture and Adobe Bridge... and I miss probably a few. Bridge comes bundled with Photoshop: I don't know if you can purchase it alone.

I'm simply delete mac os and install vista x64 on my mac... Vista is little unstable but there I work much, much faster... Using acdsee pro 2.5 for adding iptc, organizing and browsing. Also, one big hole on macos is finder, file browser which is on win platform, vista especially much bether... also, FTP software has very pur, lack of couple photoshop plugins was really pis me off to.

Be sure to download the application that lets you upload directly to iStock via iPhoto. Let's you do iptc keywords and also assign categories. It's great!

Sorry I missed the "free" line. I haven't really found anything that fits the bill there that is convenient to use... sorry.

Acutally I'm just having another go at Aperture 2... anyone have any workflow tips for this?

Just mentioned the iPhoto add-on to make it easier for you to upload to iStock. Just presumed you found some other way to add IPTC to your photos (such as your photo editing software).

You can add keywords in Preview which is free Apllication inside MAC OS X but you cant add Description, Document title and other information.
In the Preview go to TOOLS and GET INFO and you can add keyword there.
Also make some basic Corections but in very limited way.

All CD drives I've seen have a small opening somewhere, where you can put in a tool like a long thick needle to unblock the mechanism. If that doesn't work, find the little screws on the bottom that hold the drive in place, then slide it out.

For IPTC, it might sound stupid, but don't you have a friend or acquaintance with a PC you can go there and use Irfanview quickly? If you have the keywords and description ready in a text file that could be done fast. Or you could go to a netcafe with a USB stick and do it there. Sometimes, you have to think out the proverbial box...

I hope that you got you CD back after month ago.
just press F12 key for sec or two, or from any window behind CD icon you have symbol which is same on F12 key and press it or just from File menu choose Eject or Hold Command (Apple key) and key E, or just drag CD icon to the Thash icon on Dock.
I hope that you not kidding?!?
About free IPTC software as you see in post above is program named PREVIEW and you have it on you machine allready installed.

Thanks Suljo
Yes, I got my CD back but SD card reader not reading. The problem was the CD could not be read by the Macbook.

And yes guess will just have to do that with the iptc. Was hoping something that could add everything and not just some infor.

Thanks for your help and kind advise. I appreciate it!
