Hello,
Does any one have initial reactions to Adobe Lightroom?  Is the workflow really different from photoshop?

And in particular lightroom vs CS3b.  Lightroom is meant to b an improvement in Raw but I assume that has been incorporated into CS3 aswell.

Seems a bit expensive for file organisation and non destructive RAW (if CS3 raw is similar).  Having said that, Adobe has never been cheap.

I am thinking about upgrading my workflow (from a combo of free canon software and PSE2) but the cost does seem excessive.  Plan is CS3 and Bridge. Convert Raw to PNG with the PNG downloader and convert in CS3. keyword etc in bridge.

After playing with Lightroom for 2 weeks, I bought it!

It's the best thing since sliced bread for a stock photographer.

It's probably one of the most intuitive software I've ever used. The more I use it, the less I use CS2. The adjustments are more precise and I can spot heal. Even if I do have to go in CS2, it's a seamless process.

Entering title, description (caption in Lightroom) and keywords is a breeze.

Just thought I'd share my experience. I'm a happy camper!  ;D

I bought it too. The beta had me hooked from the start. ACR is built right in and looks almost identical to the stand alone product. The healing/clone tool work well as does the red-eye reduction. The final version also runs much faster than the beta - except it now hangs for a few seconds when you finish entering keywords. (maybe just me?)

I recently traveled to Colorado with a bantam hockey team as the official photographer. Lightroom had no problem keeping up with thousands of photos I dumped into it. Before finishing all the post-processing I upgraded my beta to the full version and it all migrated correctly. All shots were then exported in web galleries and posted for viewing as well has hi-res backed up on DVD for future printing. (Lightroom's built-in web templates are much slicker than anything apple offers with iphoto/iweb)

No matter what though - you will still need Photoshop for more advanced editing

Does anyone know how to stop LR putting keywords in alphabetical order? I usually want them in order of relevance so I can speed up the Fotolia upload process.

Apart from that, just got the software and already can see how it's going to speed up my workflow.

I use CS2 and Bridge.  I tried the beta of CS3 but decided against it due to memory hog.

I tried the trial of lightroom and junked it after two days.  The reason: it couldn't recognise same file name/different file extension so it wouldn't import any of the jpegs.

Let me explain: I have four copies of every picture - the original, a PSD, a max res jpeg for stock and a small size web version.  My files all have the same name, so catanddog.psd is also catanddog.jpeg.  Lightroom couldn't cope with this and decided that all my jpegs were 'duplicate files'.  I spent a couple of days trying to get round the problem then just uninstalled it.

I have been using Lightroom since Beta 4. I will admit that I got a free copy because I had a copy of RSP, which I got free for being a Beta tester. Talk about good luck. It is really good for doing stock as you can do the keywords and all of the stock agencies that I use recognize them, the title, and the description, so most of the input only has to be done once.  I'm aware of the two problems discussed above, which don't affect me, since I don't submit to FT. My largest complaint is that after using it for a while, I get a message that my 16-bit resources are used up.  This normally doesn't affect most programs, but I do have a couple that are 16-bit legacy programs and I then have to reboot.  This is a problem that early versions of Windows had, but was fixed with Win95 and later versions. Lightroom must have some throwback 16-bit code.  Hopefully V1.1 will clear this problem.

Hi Phil

I have the exact same question! I posted on a couple of LR forums about this but it doesn't seem to be an option for now...allas.... maybe in V1.1   Let's cross our fingers!
