NIK is good tool but most of us on MSG can do this without the filters and save some $$ (I think the filters cost $50 USD)....

Yes, it is partly true, but a lot of things can be done very quickly with Nik.
Also the Control Point selections are very difficult to do in PS

Yes, you are right, better if you don't use it

Google Free NIK is gone, went back to pay. I'm happy to have the old version on my XP computer.

in the past folks would say get that high end camera and software programs because even at $.38 an image you will sell thousands of those images. Not anymore! Yeah, you still get the whooping $.38 an image but lucky to sell a few hundred of those images or none at all! So adding more expenses to your business makes no sense at all  ???

Until a few months ago Nik was free ...
It is not because it has been bought by DxO that the Google version has stopped to work
It is no more distributed by Google but it is still possible to find it for free online

Then if you want the last version it is another story you have to pay for it
And if for your business it is an expense, for my business it is an investment ;)

Interesting, I did not know that he free version was still available.
I read that the free version was having more and more problems with the recent LR updtes, while DXO said that this version will be constantly updated

If you search on Google you can find it enough easily.

Then I don't know if it is fully legal to download it. But if this version was free I don't see why I cannot continue to download it for free today.
Personally I never had problem using it with LR, for the simple reason that I always use it from Photoshop :D
It is just one step more to open the image from LR to Photoshop and then in Photoshop I can do other adjustments (to mask the Nik layer for example) without have to return to LR.
I know that somebody has/had problem in Photoshop too. That is simple to solve, most of the time the culprit is "Nik Selective Tool". Just don't use it  zip it, move it, trash it, )

I am not sure everyone in this forum is in the same situation.
I believe some members have a day job and stock is a hobby which brings a nice extra income to pay for gear, software and holidays.
Also others are professional photographer that can sell left over on stock and get a little extra income.
I like to think there is still people who can afford $50 for a good collection of 8 excellent plug ins
