Title: Support group for those who're waiting a Stocksy response
Post by: gc85 on August 26, 2014, 10:21
We could all say our name and others could say back "Hi" like an alcoholic support group.
So, Hi! my name is Giada. I made my apply 2 month, one week and two days ago and i'm pushing F5 on my e-mail page since than! :P

Hi!
I've been waiting for about 6 weeks. In the meantime, I'm holding back uploading alot of images to my other sites in case I get in and want them on stocksy instead. If I don't get accepted, I'll put them all on the regular sites and start again for next year.

Hi!
I applied on June 16th and I'm waiting and waiting... Yesterday I discovered how to add next images to my application and I decided to do it so I uploaded my application twice. I don't know if it was wise or not but I'm very tired out already so I wanted to try it. I hope it wasn't a mistake  :-\

Did you add new images on the same application of two months ago? That could be really interesting! :D

WOW! You are a record breaker! Didn't you try to write to support?

Yes, I think so. I added many images to my website portfolio later and I regretted I don't have some of them in my application too. When you will go to "Call to artists", then "Apply with Stocksy", "Continue" and "Login" (you must be logout before), you will find a page with your identity and your application images and you can add more. When you will upload them and finish you will receive the same confirmation e-mail as for the first time. But I really don't know if it will help somebody with his application or not.

It will be 11 weeks for me tomorrow. When I tried last year I didn't wait so long. May be they have much more applicants now and it is more difficult to select the most suited photographers.

Not a mistake, a blunder. A double upload will be treated harshly, by many SA's

Upload once, move on- especially if you havent got account approval yet. Cant speak for Stocksy, but doing that is not a good move.

I gave them 5 of my best images and still waiting. Cant say Im holding my breath. Would love a place on there. But i love their ethos and hope they crush this industry into shape! (Giving all members share of profits each year etc...)

I see them more as a way forward than anything else. Hope they thrive.

Ok, let me put this way:
If tomorrow Jon Oringer sell SS to those Getty idiots get whatever$ (get bored meanwhile) and create another SStocksy will you support him? I won't!
Bruce Livingstone selling IS made more damage to the MS industry then anyone else. What's next selling Stocksy and than again..........

Again, the business is set up as a co-op, which means that Bruce is not able to "sell it".

Thank you for your opinion, Ubermansh. I thought about it too a lot but I didn't find any rule relating to this question so I don't know if it is possible or not. It occurred to me that may be we can edit our applications when there is opportunity how to do it but may be I'm really wrong and they don't want it. I will see. If I knew for sure it isn't allowed I wouldn't do it of course.

Probably he didn't know what Getty will do with iStock. I like that he is trying to do something new for photographers and stock industry now.

Not exactly what they would do, but Getty had a dreadful reputation among UK photographers at least long before they took over iStock.
But as Sean says, the co-op means he can't make the same mistake again.

I have read many of the Stocksy press releases and such but could find co op information, everything they release seems to have a hush hush secret surprise tone to it.

My main question with the co op would be how transparent it is and how it actually works?

Do they pro rate the highest sellers higher margins and lower selling photographers lower portions? Is it freely open to members? Do we all get to see the books on a daily basis? The 50% is a start, but what got me excited about Stocksy is the profit sharing promise. THAT is fair!! Artist does all the work.

Choosing stocksy for me was about clarifying this area, but no information really available. What stocksy offer is Bruce and his IS legacy and the co op promise. Would definitely want more specific and concrete written info or contract to read that outlines how this works.

Also can a future successful stocksy management just decide to buy an office building this year and kill all profits that were meant for the artist?

If you have any information or links that i might have missed, please drop them.

The co-op's legal documents are available to members.  Financial data is available to members.  That info is not available to the general public so there are no links to share.

Hi Magdalena,
I'm holding images that I think would suit Stocksy and am still uploading some other more traditional stock images to existing sites so that my portfolio keeps performing on those too. Keeping the bread and butter income growing is important too!

Don't put your work on hold because you're waiting for Stocksy!  Always keep shooting.

I'm shooting all the time but they rejected my microstock images last year so I decided to focus more on my own subjects and personal approach to photography and it is the reason why I set back my microstock work for now. My own photography and my microstock photography are very different and it's difficult for me to shoot both together.  I didn't expect I will have to wait  few months for replay... I have to do something useful finally and it seems that it will be better to start with my microstock work again.

Same here, 3 months waiting. I'm very tired and disappointed. It seems to me that they aren't interested in my images when they didn't reply so far  :'(

They are working through the huge backlog.  I believe that there were 10 or so new members added last week.

Thank you Sean. Are they reviewing remaining applications from June finally? I'm very glad to hear about it.They wrote it can take one to two months to receive a response but we are waiting much longer and we don't know what's happened with our applications. I'm grateful for every information and explanation.

We have to respect the Stocksy's reviewers, if we want to get in. Stocksy for me is not any other agency and I will wait as long as necessary, because I believe that the delay is because of the strong and complicated process.

We respect them but the term one to two months is from Stocksy information page for applicants so I hope they understand that we are concerned when we have no answer after three months. Such delay is a serious complication for some photographers because microstock is full time job for some of us.  I believe they are doing the best but each week waiting impacts all my family and it is very difficult for me.

No doubt that Stocksy will reject a lot of contributor application ... no need to wait for any answer.

If you photos are suitable for microstock, Stocksy will not want them ... if they are special for Stocksy I guess it will be hard for you to have profit with them in microstock (in this days).

My advise is only that you must run your business without waiting for Stocksy answer.

I wonder if underwater images would be in need there. They want realistic that's about as real as I can get. I would pull my work from micros if there was a need there.

It looks like they mostly actively want lifestyle, but do have other genres.
You should try and contact some of the people already offering wildlife there before committing to pulling from elsewhere (unless they're not selling elsewhere) and check out their advertising to see what areas they are 'pushing' to buyers.

Exactly, this is the reason…  It isn't possible to shoot the same images for Stocksy and microstock and when I'm focusing on Stocksy application I have great difficulty with other work.

I know I already said this on page 1, but... please don't put your life or work on hold for Stocksy.  I know it is really frustrating to wait so long, but waiting for an answer from Stocksy shouldn't impact your family or prevent you from doing your full time job.  It's just one agency.  Besides, your application is already submitted, isn't it?  So there shouldn't be any more work for you to do on it?

Of course my application is submitted but I wanted to do as much as possible so I improved my website. I added a lot of new images and I think it looks much better then three months ago and I'm glad for it. For this reason I wasn't able to focus on my microstock work at the same time. It was my decision, I had my reasons and I was sure I could afford it for some time but now I know it is too long and I have to change my approach.

So finally I received a replay. My application was declined. Although it was bad news, I feel much better now. Uncertainty and long waiting were more difficult for me. I sent them a question regarding my application before and I was surprised that they sent me also a very kind answer to my email.

I don't know if I will try again (I can send next application in December). I'm not sure if I will be able to prepare new application and work for microstock together. I had great difficulty with it now and I'm afraid it will be the same next time. Perhaps I'm not able to do it. Stocksy and microstock are very different and it seems that I can focus only on one way of working.

I am very sorry to hear that. But at least the answer puts you out of waiting mode.

Might be worth exploring the alternatives out there with the content you planned to send to stocksy? 500pix? Apply to Offset?

Or some of the other edited collections?

You´ll be meeting the same group of people wherever you go. stock is a small world.

I have to decide. Although I wasn't accepted, it was a very useful experience for me. After years of working for microstock I began to think about my own photography again. Microstock gave me good money but I realized that I also lost something. I would like to find out which topics and what style of photography is most important for me personally now and I would like to include it to my work in some way. I hope it will be possible.

I am sure you can. Shooting again the way you love to shoot is very liberating. And stocksy is a great place for it. But it is not the only place.

With thousands of people applying, but sadly not getting in, it means there is a very large volume of files available for more authentic photography.

Somebody is going to tap into that resource and make it available for the customers.

I don´t know if 500pix is the answer, but it seems to be a more open plattform than stocksy.

And I am sure the many edited collections could be a good place as well. It just takes time to identify the one that will work for you.

Authentic photography is good for the soul. I find that with independence I am free to explore different styles and ways of shooting is the best thing that could have happened to me.

I had various images in my portfolio, maybe too many. I need to clarify what suits me the most and I will try to focus on less subjects. If I will be happy with the result, may be I will try again. But I'm not sure if I will survive next three months waiting  ;D

Thank you Sean!
i drew those sketches on advice from a Stocksy friend. It was the new year's day and i had left my camera at home and i started to freeze the moment in that way (drawing). She saw those sketches and she said to me that Stocksy would love that. So, in march, i started to draw again after leaving the art academy for the photography academy. It could be a lovely excuse to start to draw again! :D

That's an incredible start. I see why you were accepted.

I agree with Sean, the hand drawn stuff is really cool. I would love to see you take that and run?

Thanks, Sketchyt! i appreciate you appreciate :)

Are they are going to stop adding new contributors all together on 10/1 or stop accepting applications for contributors on 10/1? I've been waiting to hear back since July 13th!

Lovely work Giada. I like the way you integrated the illustrations into the travel photos! Very clever.

Well its quite obvious Sean locke is bruce with a fake pic in disguise?? or are we all ignoring this?

Approve my sh*t b*tch.!!!

ahaha only joking...I saw this one picture n stocksy of this family sitting on the grass having a picnic, my it was so vivid, well cropped and artfully directed, the father was actually moooing half shaven and large belly.

why are so many people camping here after 4 months waiting for no sales? THEY ARE IN THE LOW EARNER CATEGORY ON MSG

Gonna go play my bass now in complete annoyance at this farce. You can delete my account, approbo414 right now not interested.

They are really busting through the applications lately, and have been adding new contributors each week.  Some take more conversation than others which can take longer.  Sorry it's such a long process.

I believe it's just the application process will close, but the queue will be reviewed until done.

Well ... let's wait :(

The funny thing is that I like Stocksy not for the money that they can give me, but for the fresh photo style they have and because I desire to be a part of it.

Really tired of traditional stock photos process and how agencies deal with photographers.

No need to be upset, and no need to stop your business for stocksy ... I am waiting for an answer, not waiting doing nothing.

If they reject my application, life goes on ... I still keep shooting for stock (other agencies).
If they accept my application, life goes on ... I still keep shooting for stock (other agencies and stocksy) ... and I will be more happy.

They are in the New Sites / Low Earners category.  I don't know how they measure earnings on MSG but if it's from contributor reports then my guess is there isn't enough data to provide a meaningful number.
