I got a bunch of rejections for lacking 'Property Relase' for pictures of stairs, windows, doors, generic shots of office buildings and similar stuff that absolutely makes no sense to get a property release for and is completely unnecessary.

I am just in the beginning of my submissions to stock.xpert, but are this kind of nonsensical 'property release' rejections common?

I think I've had one or two of those rejections - StockXpert is a bit fussy that way.

On a semi-related note, I occasionally get rejects fom IS over model releases that are typed rather than hand-written. Given how infrequently these occur, I'm guessing that this is a per peeve of only one inspector there.

Yes. Don't bother with any type of property there.

I mean I can kind of understand wanting property release for a shot of a house, even though it is a generic one, or a building, I guess you could recognize that too (but are these copyrighted in any way??), but to want a property release for a staircase, airport waiting room, corridor in a public library??? I mean, come on!!

Btw, I haven't found any way to contest/complain/explain/ask about a rejection reason on stock.xpert? Is there such an option?

Honestly I can't remember how at the moment. Either way, they put this into practice last fall if memory serves correct. You aren't going to sway their opinions.

Plenty of other sites accepts those types of shots. Just an FYI though - architectural shots tend not to sell very well unless they are done very well. So make sure your exposure is dead on, and you take a creative shot which tells a good story.

I haven't had a single problem at StockXpert since I stopped submitting property related shots. I know a lot of people complained of mass rejections several months ago when their queue was high. But honestly I think their reviews are fair and consistent, and Steve-Oh is a regular contributor to indie message boards.

was today rejected by StockXpert. Reason: "Image requires a property release". If it was not for the fact that this is actually very funny I would have been very annoyed.

HOw do you challenge rejections? I have found no way except writing to customer support on their generic form?

Yes... I just had one. A log cabin in a state park. I emailed support, explained it wasn't a private residence but was a public building in a state park. I was answered in less than 24 hours and the image was approved. I have to say, I've only talked with support a few times at StockXpert, but I always got a quick response and so far, positive results.

That's great, but if you're uploading 10 or more images a day to 10 or more sites and you have to individually challenge rejections from untrained reviewers, the tipping point of time vs return would come pretty quickly.

Hi guys,

I haven't seen all the images that are being appealed, but do you put in the description of the images things like it is "a public building in a state park." Such details might be helpful to the reviewers to determine property release requirements.

They just zapped me with "image contains bad retouching""image contains bad retouching" on several batches. I am glad SE works for some of you I just don't get it when same isolated images accepted elsewhere including IS. Extremely frustrating. I have emailed support, but am not expecting much but a "canned reply".

If it weren't for the fact that I actually get sales there, I'd give up on them. Used to be one of my favorite sites, but now it's just aggravating. Today, I got a rejection on a shot of Pirate's Alley in the New Orleans' French Quarter because it said it was an identifiable location. Well...yeah. *sigh*

And does that suffice? I believe there are many public buildings in public areas that nevertheless have a famous architect behind it, what may mean a copyrighted building. Or not?

Everything in this world is designed or constructed by someone. In principle, unless you made it yourself, you need a release, or at least that seems to be the opinion of some reviewers and agencies.

Thankfully, some of the micros, and most of the macros, have a more realistic attitude towards this.

Absolutely. I think the best thing to come out of the whole istock "We won't accept vehicle photos anymore" is that they are now in more demand at virtually every other site out there. I even noticed one microstock site had a great concept picture of a muscle car on their front page last week. I took it as a direct play for istock buyers who need such items but have seen such photos taken off line.

Want a picture of a typical suburban home for a blog about real estate prices? StockXpert won't have it, but BigStock, Fotolia, Dreamstime, and pretty much everyone else will.

I'm an independent contributor. I don't care about any site's market share. What one site loses, another one gains.

Actually, let me re-state that.. Yes, I did not get any email from customer support, but somehow all the images rejected for 'property release' now have been approved with two exceptions that now need a 'model release'

good work guys, although under the radar a bit..

well so much for my first experience getting it settled in less than 24 hours... Still no reply to this mail and they both still show rejected in my 'folio. we'll see....
