Title: StockXpert Dead?
Post by: Alatriste on September 15, 2008, 10:52
I have been some days without any sales (and views!!!) at StockXpert in the last batches uploaded. I use to have everyday sales...
Anyone is experimenting something similar?

I do have some days without any sale too, but nevertheless the total results for this month so far are pretty good.

StockXpert has tanked for me since they added Photos.com.
Don't know if it is because I am a fairly new contributor with a smaller port or what? Also, I no longer get many rejections on uploads there. They take virtually everything, usually approved within a couple of hours.

There is a thread in the StockXpert forum where many people are saying they are getting no views on newly uploaded images.

Strange -- I've got a small batch waiting for approval from September 9th.   ???

Also, I, too, have had no sales since photo.com went up.

They are falling for me as well. If the trend continues, this month will end lower than September 2007, while all the others increase, with a possible exception for SS. Their main competitors, IS and DT, are increasing a lot compared to last year.

Could anyone please follow the link to my portfolio there, sort by date descending and open a couple of the most recent images?
Just to see if the views are keeping registered

I mentioned to my brother that StockXpert rejection rates have dropped.  He re-submitted about 40 images that were previously rejected and all of them were accepted within a day.

Looks like they're trying to build up a huge collection for Photos.com or something.

For me about the usual number of sales, but many more are subscriptions (both from photos.com and StockXpert) than used to be.

Off topic, sorry, but can anyone answer my question, what was the general consensus regarding subs on SX (photos.com)? most people opting out or in? Thanks.

My sales are dying also, not to mention the views. My new uploads don't have any views unless I log out and view it myself. But the number of views doesn't help improve my placement in the search engine because the number of forced views just equals the current views. The views is driving me crazy!

Subs are now like 70% of my incomes there. I pass from 0 to 70 in what... 3 months

my sales are dead also. only $1.10 this month. I am a new there, but if in three months I made 27$ and this month brought me only a buck, and now my portfolio is biggest compared to past months, then there is definitely something wrong.

I wrote in a thread there about a search engine cheat using Opera speed dial (I think that  plenty of users are exploiting that) - open nine windows in it and set them to refresh automaticly every X seconds (you're logged out offcourse) and thus generate extremely unfair number of views and occupy first N pages of search engine.  I've never done it, because it seems inherently illegal although not formaly so, but I've heard about it and seen same contributors with same pictures using every frigging keyword for searching and those people didn't pimp one of their images, they pimped whole batches. Appearance of this matches the time when me and others started seeing significant decline in views and sales and it must be true because my images that were pimped though this and another forum in a fair way that we do here (comment and view other people images before somebody does it to yours) and got more than 200 views in a course of few days never got to the first page of search engine. Those images that I think are unfairly pumped get to the first position on the day they were approved. Nobody is going to buy your picture if it's burried on the 10th, not to mention 110th page of results. StockXpert didn't come out with an announcement of a policy to approve nor condemn this kind of behavior. There has been a mention in a thread, but not a public statement in a "don't do it anymore, we'll slap you if you try this again!" kinda way. They should either remove views from search algorithm/find way to count only buyer views (probably impossible), or forbid this kind of behavior.

Maybe we should convey a joint experiment, pimp some images in that way to prove the point while leaving neccessary information about it's progress here to separate us from others who do it. If our sales do improve, then we should ask StockXpert to do something about it. what do you think?

If i am not mistaken the views only count if you are logged in. So this cheat won't work.

btw, my sales are as normal. well, let's rephrase: my income is as normal. i got more sales, but more of them are subs.

I have been having a lot of trouble reaching the Stockxpert site today.  The last couple of hours, I have not been able to reach it at all.  I was going to start a new topic when I noticed this one, which felt kind of appropriate.  ::)

Stockxpert has finally taken off for me this month (nothing spectacular yet, but I have been having sales there about every other day for the last two weeks).  I hope it will be back up soon.  If we can't reach the site, neither can our customers...

For me as soon as the Photos.com mess started sales stopped. StockXpert was excellent "at first" then very little. Lately I've rec'd mostly sub's including Photos.com. Have all the same issues as all other posts, no image views until about a week or two after uploading. I had images accepted after I noticed the keywords were (accidentally) completely wrong. Meaning an image of a prescription drug was mislabeled haircut but it was still accepted.

August was pretty slow but in September StockXpert is doing great for me (on track for BME).
Title: Re: StockXpert Dead?
Post by: Alatriste on September 17, 2008, 15:12
I cant understand.

Support answered saying that everything is correct, that he suggest me to ask other people how do they keyword photos, etc...  :D

Still no views (only mines when logget out and people from this forum when I asked to visit my portfolio)

Another strange thing . I have a batch pending review until some days. Before this situation, reviews where almost instant.

This remember me my begin at StockXpert. No sales at all for a lot of months and one day it started to work. Since then I have almost everyday sales but stopped again...

Very strange

I haven't uploaded any this month but the sales remain strong for me, could end up being another BME. It seems to be a wide selection of images that are selling, no particular pattern. I'm opted into subs at StockXpert and Photos.com but most of my sales are still credits, those $5 credits soon add up :-)

Hi Ryan
Thanks for your quick answer but I have to disagree.
I used to have almost everyday sales so it is not normal at all that I dont
have any views.
If you take a look to this thread you will see with no doubt that, yes,
there is an issue.

http://www.stockxpert.com/forum.phtml?f=showtopic&n=16101

And there are other external forums threads that confirm this.

Thanks and best regards.
Ivan.

PS. Perhaps Im wrong but not sure successful artist will share their ideas
or keys... :)

And then... no answer.
So I contacted again to see if they were doing anything.

You cant imagine the answer...

Dear Ivan,

Hello and thank you for contacting stockxpert.com.

I apologize for the inconvenience.

At this time we are unaware of any system issues and there are no problems with your account.

The number of views an image attracts could be based different factors such as image quality or popularity.

Our suggestion is to communicate with artists who receive a fair number of views to get ideas for your work.

I hope this information helps.

Best regards,

Ryan Thomas

I admire the StockXpert support!!!

Basically they are saying "your pictures suck".. and you're not a popular photographer... that's why they don't have views.

Well, I've been selling a little bit here and a little bit there from my pitiful little image portfolio since Photos.com came on line.  Was up to a whopping $6 in my account yesterday.

I uploaded quite a number of videos a month ago and was about to give up on selling any video on the site when I got a couple sales today.  I like the $20 sales for video more than the 30 cent to $1.00 sales on images. :)

Guess I'll go ahead and upload more videos this weekend.

Things are picking up here at the end of the month. Good amount of downloads in the last few days. Almost better now than before they added the new affiliates. Anyone else having better results?

In the first half of the month I had 2 downloads, in the last three days I've had 6.

So true. I do pretty well at StockXpert, while many others don't. Yet many other people do really well at Fotolia, and I hardly sell anything there.

For me, StockXpert has been pretty average compared to recent months. Not up much, but also definitely not down. And with SS sales plumeting for me, StockXpert is closing in on my #2 spot overall.

Same here, I wonder if it's because of the funny SVG file format - I get quite a few views on Fotolia, but overall relatively few downloads compared to other sites.

StockXpert is great, those $5 downloads sure are sweet  ;D

i started at beginning of 2006 with StockXpert i had over 2000 files at this time sales were excellent but at this time StockXpert had only about 200.000 files or so now they have over two millions, and no i don't have over 20.000 files with them now  ;). My earnings struggled a bit but compared to this massive growth of StockXpert they are still okay.
I expect StockXpert to be the number one in a few years they will give IS a hard time.

September is the first month that my subs have outstripped regular sales 3-1.  But, I must also state that my port there is small and overall number of DL's is very insignificant.  I'd be interested to see the ratio for those with a larger sample.
