Bootstrap 3 is out! And its looking good. This is a huge component in your Symbio sites

It also appears to be a significant visual change. Are you ready to move forward and adapt? (Poll attached).

Premium upgrade is almost done. Its also the end of the road for me personally in the heavy foundation groundwork. Which brings me to the next subject -

Hub sites:

A whole new animal. The Symbiostock site you use is a workhorse. The Hub Sites are going to be self-contained. Not quite as dynamic as Symbiostock wordpress version, but certainly lighting fast, search-savvy, and easy to customize. They will not use Wordpress, but will easily integrate with the network and most of all promote it nicely.

Anyone running a hub site will generally be expected to be qualified to do so. Symbiostock core obviously exists for artists and photographers, and is full of nice accommodating helpful features. Hub sites will exist for those comfortable with web promotion, and ready for the responsibility. It will really be left to you who you do business with, how, terms, etc.

I'm adopting the "hub" site project as my own and will present it "as is" on a business level. Symbiostock at its foundation/core is still a community canvas with tons of freedom to be pluggable, developed, and used any way needed.

For the clueless out there -

What is Bootstrap 3?

Ok Googled it - but would this mean learning a new platform - I'm not yet totally comfortable with WordPress.

Gotta vote no for now.

What is Bootstrap 3? Where is the attached poll? OK, there's the poll, I replied too quick  :) - Can't answer, though, because I am one of the clueless. :(

I can't wait for the premium plugin. I believe it will sell like hotcake...

I have been away for only 3 weeks and find it quite amazing how Symbiostock developed in such a short time span. It is still a long way to go and many issues need to be dealt with. But that is to be expected for a project of this scale. Big 4 (on the right) watch out!  ;D

I would like to know what some of the visual changes entailed might be.  However, I would be ready and willing to move forward as long as it is stable.

http://getbootstrap.com/css/

Here you go, thats what makes your site responsive.

You'll notice quite a few visual changes, which is why I didn't think "Just upgrading" without warning was a good idea.

I still need more of an explanation.

Is this replacing wordpress?
What about our plug-ins and widgets?
Will this require a rebuilding our sites from scratch?

OK. At least I understand what we are talking about now  8). I am with Chris. Stability is my main concern. Beside that I'd be ready moving forward, find out what visual changes it brings. If I don't like certain things I'd be ready tweaking CSS in my child theme until it looks "right" again.

I don't really have any idea what bootstrap is used for (and I've been in the tech industry for decades), so I can't really give an opinion one way or the other.  But one thing that I would say is that I am not a fan of the "bleeding edge" (that is, upgrading just because a new version came out).  Upgrades can be quite costly for applications.  They can break them.  They can cost a lot of time in development and support.

I would like to know what the benefits vs cost (in terms of time) analysis are.

But the bottom line (for me) is - will the new version of bootstrap give us more sales somehow?

If not, then I would prefer see time spent on things that will get us more sales.

Same here as I have zero idea where to start. Do I download something etc?

I guess what I'll do is I'll release the new for manual install based on whoever wants to take a chance. I'm integrating it and I'm already seeing while its vastly improved there's a few curve balls being thrown.

Please, for the non-coders here, explain in language we can understand what this means.

What bootstrap does:

Bootstrap is whats responsible for the majority of your site's compatibility with devices. Yet another SEO relevant issue, which I'm always on top of.

It also allows a lot of cool functions in menus, preview-pop-ups, etc.

The unofficial "team" despite our level of busy has been wanting to give the core one more final overhaul for visuals. This is good timing :D

Ok thanks for that.
So we already have bootstrap running our sites? This is an upgrade to what we already have.

But my questions about how it affects the work we have already done to our sites is still un-answered.

Thanks

I'm with SC I often heard about bootstrap but still don't understand what it actually is and does.

I'm looking forward for the premium upgrade though, I really love Symbiostock and Amanda's theme and your image sitemap really makes it even better and more fun.

This is an upgrade to what you already have, and yes, it will actually require some updates on templates.

Lets just call this a "heads up" for now, and we'll get to it all at once. Actually Amanda's helping with a lot now. Soon there will be a Symbio out that's especially shiney out of the box.

I have a development server here so could try updating a copy of my live site and give it a good test.
