How many uploads do you have until you got your first sale?

I have over 420 files, and still no sale.

It must be the quality of my uploads.

No one knows about your images... right now it doesn't matter how many images you have the buyers aren't here... yet.

A few years ago, the magic number was around 300 files before you got your first sale (excluding SS). In the meantime, the number of available images on the major sites expanded at least 3 times, so on average, it might take now 1,000 files to get the first sale.

Geeze we are barely out of Beta.
It's going to take patience. This is still in its infancy. You need to be in this  for the long haul. That's why I took the 3 year hosting option.
And by the way I have 2400 photos uploaded and no sales but I'm not worried, it will happen.

It took exactly one thousand uploads, still on that figure as my latest blog describes.
My first sale is of one of my dog pictures, I do not think anyone would ever realise they are one of my favourite subjects by looking at my portfolio.

You sold a dog pic?

Yes  :)

A picture of a dog on a beach in Spain gone to the US.
From what I can see the client arrived via Google Images and took around two hours from first visit to coming back and completing sale.  Does not appear to have visited other sites in network, just a few other images of the same dog.   Hopefully will get too busy to look at this sort of information  soon but it is interesting to see for first Symbiostock sale.

Edit:  Now I am at computer will add a link to show which picture (and I think this one is before I started concentrating on SEO)

According to Google Image Search, this image is exclusive to your SY site. This is something that I think is very important to having success with SY (or any other self-hosted site).

I'm not doing this to show off - I think its useful for people to know.

In the last week i've gotten about $60 is sales on the site (which is lower that the past) but my website also established.

If you keep following the regimen of SEO you've been working on the only last determinant will be what the customer is looking for, which is fair enough.

Also I know hosting is a pain -  keep tolerating it and working within your constraints until you feel you can scale into something more powerful - usually that can be done right within the company you use. Its important to keep growth going - even worst case scenerio - if you can't or don't want to use the shopping cart -  you can still put a note to be contacted, which will further emphasize the value of your work. Right now SY's main strength for you is exposure. You can turn on the big guns when the circumstances are right.

Also with the huge changes Microstock is going through, it might be best for you and others to at least have a fallback like your own selling website - which if you look at SY's first opening posts, thats what it was supposed to be. If someone big crashes or dissolves, that market goes somewhere.

I just wanted to report my first sale today, a large size image. I had just decided to be lazy tonight and not do anymore uploading. Walked over to my ipad, saw there were 4 emails, and there it was. Now I am motivated! I know it's only one sale, but it sure feels good making 100% and dollars instead of pennies.  :D

That makes it even better, now we want this thread to be so full of first sales that it becomes the longest thread here

It is probably more useful to look at the # of organic searches landing on your images rather than the total number of images online. That will tell you more about your visibility, and whether or not your SEO needs tweaking.
