This is interesting, if SY takes off for me, i might look into this when Bluehost expires.

I've found that the Mac has been a very reliable server, and pretty easy to administer.  Mac Stadium is an excellent host, have had no unscheduled downtime with them for 3+ years.  A dedicated server is probably not cost effective for just a SY site, but I use the server for some other larger websites, and for iOS development.

Yep, just did a little investigating. Did not realize you still had to pay for a cloud hosting service. But hosting a few sites on it makes sense.

Hey everybody! I've finally decided to make my own symbiostock site. The frustration came when bluehost asked for USD 160 at once -- they are asking for the whole amount and I want to be able to make monthly payments for hosting as the sum is more than half of what I make from microstock per month. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

I believe they offer one, two or three year plans. The one year plan is $71.40 ($5,95 monthly).

Thank you. They do offer a monthly payment option if you ask them. However, you can't pay with paypal.

Soooooo...finally mostly bug free (knocking on wood :-) )

Site: http://www.spectral-design.net
Hosting: VPS Server on webspace-verkauf.de
Environment: Ubuntu with Webmin/Virtualmin as Panel
Results: Install was easy but not flawless since I encountered some Problems with the combination of the Ubuntu/Symbio enviroment in the beginning, but nothing really serious.
Wishlist: a) The Premium plugin should feature _different_ licenses for an image which exclude each other (Editorial-Commercial), not only _additional_ licenses
b) Payment plugins e.g. MB, 2Checkout, etc. c) The possibility to set different prices for different images and more sizes
Overall: Very happy with Leos work and happy to have finally started the site :-)

Thanks everybody for their support during setup!!!

Upgraded to a paid hosting plan the other day.  I'm still waiting on the nameservers to catch up which is absolute torture.  I still have some testing to do before I can finish uploading and start promoting it.

*edit*

Decided to modify instead of post new.

The nameservers were already caught up, what was failed to mention in the FAQ or even on the message board that you needed to contact support to migrate the site from free to paid.

It was working fine then the database reverted back to what it was before I started working on the site again.  It must've still be pulling information from the free host database (another thing that there wasn't information on).

Right now I'm happy just wish I could've foreseen those issues beforehand.

Hi Anita
I have carried out a very unscientific survey and have tried clicking all of the links to symbio sites I can find - and frankly yours seems to be the fastest!!  By miles!!

Could you describe your plan and how you got started?

So you set up a free hosting site  /  build your symbio site on that and then opt for a paid plan?

Do I understand that correctly ?

May I ask what plan you are on also

Thanks in advance
