My first, very simple plugin, for everyone having portfolio at Alamy, and wanting to increase visibility of images.

Symbiostock images are very high in Google results, and Alamy images are not visible at all.
Maybe you don't want to use Symbiostock for selling your Alamy images directly, but you can use it to index them in Google and direct customers to your Alamy portfolio.

Examples:
http://ajotte.com/image/dlugi-targ-street-in-gdansk-3/
http://ajotte.com/image/john-paul-ii-monument/

More info and plugin here http://ajotte.com/alamy-plugin/

This plugin is free, but if you find it useful, and want to pay for it, just buy one of my images :)

It is easily customizable, you can replace Alamy to other site, or add more links.

Excellent! Tidier than the method we've been using, so that's a couple of hundred images to edit...  :(

If you have your method already working, maybe there is no need to edit now?

The advantage with yours is that we can put the 'Similar Images' at the side rather than the bottom of the page; the referral links block goes to the bottom of the sidebar, so it's out of sight if we put similars in the sidebar.

This is a great idea! I have sold royalty free fotos on alamy, but never one of my rights managed. Great way to promote them I think. I will test it next days. Cheers Andrzej.

Why would you want to sell your images on Alamy instead of on your own site?

I wondered that - why not sell it on both? You can individually set the price on your own site to suit the market for that image.

Thanks for the plug-in.  It seems to work nicely.

While I would just as soon license my Alamy RM stuff directly on my own site at my prices this plug-in seems like a good interim solution for dealing with RM images that are currently on Alamy.  At least until SY has a way to handle RM.

Or maybe there's better/simpler way to license images on SY but are currently on Alamy as RM?    I did spell out in my SY EULA that licenses are single-use basis only but wasn't completely comfortable with that for Alamy RM licensed direct.

It's my understanding that licensing RM images as RF elsewhere is a no-no.

Good job! I'm glad someone finally tackled this. This makes life real easy.

Why do you think this wouldn't work. These are just licenses and there is nothing set in concrete that says that they can only be two types of license. As far as I understand, Alamy says that an RM license on their site should not be sold as RF elsewhere. If you have a license on your own site that isn't RF - ie there are restrictions on unlimited use - then you are not breaking that contractual agreement with Alamy.

I've been mulling this problem myself - hence my interest

Steve

Edit: This is the clause in the Alamy contract:

2.2 You cannot submit identical or similar images to Alamy as both Royalty-Free and Rights Managed. The licence type on Alamy for an image must be the same as the licence type for that image and similar images which you have on other agency websites.

Super job! This plugin should effectively work with any Wordpress theme, correct? Not just Symbiostock?

I believe it was due to me thinking that once an Alamy RM image that's also on my SY site and is RM licensed directly it's usage details, etc. should be recorded/tracked.  All of which sounds like a pain in the bee-hind.  I suspect that's overkill and not the case if my EULA spells out single-use basis.

I'm a fan of Dan Heller regarding today's stock photo business and KISS image licenses. His belief is in a bare-bones license for most of today's Google search driven stock image buyers and that overly verbose EULA's full of legalese only deter sales as a "difficult supplier".

Without Symbiostock this plugin will do nothing. It uses "hooks" in image page (and works only there), that Leo added in one of last SYmbio versions.

let's just say if you've got images that are exclusive to an agency, how would you be able to customize the plug-in to link to that specific image on that site?

I should know first, how looks direct link to image in that agency. Then plugin code should be modified, to recognize new ref pattern and generate valid link. I'll try to make plugin a bit more customizable, so will be easier to do it.
Could you give me some example links to images in other sites, you want to use plugin for?

Update:

There is another plugin, more customizable. Is is not "Alamy plugin" now, because it can be used for any other stock site. If you have Alamy plugin installed, remove it and install this:

http://ajotte.com/stock-plugin/

but only if you want to place links to other sites. Alamy links defined in images will work as before with Alamy plugin.

Wow, thanks for that.
I have installed the plug-in and edited it for the custom links. Now, when I am in the "Edit Image" area to publish the image I've uploaded, I can't find where to put the individual image code. Any thoughts on where or how to do this? Thanks.

Somewhere (for example in the end) in image description, something like Stocksy=12345
It will not be visible in image page.

Example:
This image
http://ajotte.com/image/john-paul-ii-monument/

has description:

Now plugin shows red "EDITORIAL USE ONLY" messages, when image has category Editorial.
Message is shown on the right side of image. I could display it under image, but I'd like to avoid possible conflict with other plugins, which will do something in image page too.

Example:
http://ajotte.com/image/statue-of-liberty/

If you need this functionality, uninstall previous version and install 1.1

This thread brings me to ask something about image categorization.

I suspect most all site visitors/potential image buyers would arrive at our sites by landing on a specific image as a result of an image search.  This assumes they're searching for images that cover a specific topic/subject.

Does it really matter or beneficial/easier for the image buyer to have Editorial images in their own separate category?  Or for Ed images to be in the image subject matter category?  Or have Ed images in both categories?

Seems that buyers would be looking for images to meet their subject regardless of whether it's is Ed or not.

I do like your BBQ tagline.

Most of my images are in multiple categories - and at the moment most of my editorial are in transport and travel as well rather than being totally separate

There is new version of stock plugin:

http://ajotte.com/stock-plugin/

Now you can easily add messages to more categories, not only Editorial.
There are also ready to use links to almost all (?) big stock agencies.

Yes, I know.  I was looking at the code for the new version of your plugin and saw the iPhone Images category.  It just caught me by surprise.

Thanks for the update.
