Hi all,
I have been speaking to another SYS member and it seems that our image pages have an issue with too many links.
You can test here http://www.seocentro.com/tools/search-engines/metatag-analyzer.html (http://www.seocentro.com/tools/search-engines/metatag-analyzer.html)

URLs found in the page: URL - Times Found
Found 151 urls from where 127 unique.
This page contains too many URLs.
This web page contains 151 urls. Some Search Engines have problems with more than 100 urls on a page.
Every keyword has a search link, so 50 keywords is 50 urls. Then there are a ton more links to add up to over 100 URLs.
I am trying to reduce the amount of links and want to adjust the image page. One thing that is creating a lot of links, and duplicate links is the side bar network members.
So the question is, where can I edit the individual image template?
And does anyone think over 100 URLs is a problem for SEO?
-
For example that
[Network Members] area = at least 10 x 5 links, it's not necessary to have on the image page

Exactly, do you know where do I remove that area?
-
I found it. I just drew a blank. Its on the widget editor. Removed the network member widget.
Now the page shows 114 urls from where 103 unique. Thats 37 links less.
-
Removed the latest images widget and that removed another 8 URLs.
Now I guess when the search is fixed to find keyword phrases and I can removed the split keywords, I will go below the 100 URLs. Which is good.
I would like to use the similar image widget, but thats showing too many images, and increasing the number of URLs again. I think it would be nice if the number of similar images could be set on the widget. 6 similar images is enough anyway, I dont need to show more.

I was curious and I ran a few pages from my best selling agency through this tool. The results were "Found 208 urls from where 196 unique" on one of my best sellers.
I tried a few other pages, some had a little more some a little less, but I know this particular agency is fantastic at SEO and gets a lot of their buyers from Google, so I'm not sure how much that number actually affects things but I'm also no SEO expert. :)

I think we will also have to balance what the machine sees, and what people see.
SEO is important to get people in the door, but we need a nice looking site to get them to the cash register...hopefully with more than they came in to buy.
-
that's why I've been concentrating on links into and out of my sym site, not so much internal
i'd like to find others who have travel pages, civil war sites, recipe sites, etc where we can trade contact sheets that show a dozen images linking to a site. the contact sheets are easy to make using the global search and just added as an insert. the important thing is that they're on non-sym sites with other content

I do know by stripping out some widgets and removing URLs my site is A LOT faster now.
-
While your on this subject, why don't you drop all widgets on your image page except for the related images widget.
Other than that, please don't over-analyze SEO. The *only* page you should be truly concerned about on your site is that all-important image page.
If you give too much of your heart to all of these SEO analyzing platforms, you will find yourself getting distracted from what matters most - interesting content.
So much of this SEO subject is highly speculative and generally as dependable as professional palm readers at the state fair.

Agree Leo. Agree. But the site is much more responsive now and the URLs dropped to an acceptable level.
Please know it wasnt criticism towards your work. :)
-
Leo, Amanda, you seem to be right

As long as the site is responsive its ok
