Well, this is interesting!

I'm trying to upload new images to test my new watermark, but **on the very same laptop** as I've done all my other uploading, I don't see the "upload box" that I've always seen before on the "Upload Images" page. Instead, I see the following message, which has always been there with the box. Now the message is all I see. No box.

Symbiostock Image Uploader

You browser doesn't have Flash, Silverlight, Gears, BrowserPlus or HTML5 support.

Want to use FTP? Here is the uploads folder:
Uploading Directions ( .jpg .eps .png .zip )
For best results, upload in batches of less than 40 or 50. Shift+drag to select groups of files, or CTRL+click to select individual files one by one.

EPS(vector) files must be accompanied by high-res JPEG or PNG files with the same name. Example:

    my_stock_art.eps
    my_stock_art.jpg

When uploading is completed...

...proceed to Process Images to process them.

How could the same computer have gone from having everything needed for image uploads to now (apparently) having none of them? I haven't deleted anything. All I've done is add the "SS Pro" premium plugin.

A few minutes ago, I installed Flash thinking that might fix the problem (since the message says that's something I don't have). But no. Do I need to install all those programs again? If so... why?

Anybody have an idea why I can't see the same "upload box" I always used before?

I think we kind of had this issue before or at least a similar one.

Leo had to log on and do his magic on my site to fix it. He will chime in as soon as he sees this I'm sure.

I believe that is related to a bug that was fixed in a patch.

See here for the details:

I believe it had something to do with the version update.
You might want to try to activate a WP standard theme like Twenty Eleven for a few seconds, then activate Symbiostock theme and then your child theme.

I had that problem when I upgraded WP and then SY last week and that sequence fixed my uploader.

I was a new install, so the uploader sort of worked for me - but only one image uploaded when I selected 4. So I switched to the FTP uploader which works just fine and is easier for me.

Out of curiosity, why do people use the browser uploader - that you don't have an FTP app (I've used that for almost all the microstock uploads, so I already had one)? Is there any "gotcha" about using FTP to upload to Symbiostock that I should be aware of?

I have saved a Lightroom Export preset which will do the FTP upload in the background without any additional FTP client. It doesn't get more comfortable than that.

I use the uploader because i am going thru all my images and only up 5-10 at a time. I could upload thru Dreamweaver, just never do.

At Martha: you can use the new watermark on your "old" images as well, see my post here:

Hi Sandor,

I do plan to do that. But first, I wanted to upload just a few new ones to make sure I even like the new watermark. Once I've got one that will cover both dark & white images, I'll reprocess the whole batch.

Again... thanks to all for the good help!

I've been using the browser uploader (quite successfully, BTW, until now) because I couldn't get FTP to work for my new site. That's how I've always uploaded to SS, DT, etc.

When I'm done with everything related to setting up, Yoasting, perfecting the watermark, etc, then I'll tackle the FTP situation.

Update: I just toggled back and forth between WP theme and SYS theme, with Clean Theme 2, and VOILA!  It worked.

Sure wish all of life's problems were so quickly and easily solved.

Again... thanks, everybody!

I have a positive reputation? Thats awesome!

Future reference: The things that will kill the uploader are:

  • Nonexistent upload folder (install problem, rare) solved by simply toggling the theme.
  • Permissions on folder messed up (fixed by manually changing permissions on upload folder to 777 or something.
  • Browser incompatibility (rare)
