Title: 0,14$ download
Post by: Nica on November 08, 2015, 03:50
This is my first post here although I have been reading your comments over a year or so.   :)

I have a question.

Recently I had a download at 123rf and got a commission of 0,14$. It's not a sub but a „S“ download and this month I am on level 2.
Any ideas what sort of download this might be. I can't remember having ever got a low commission as that.

The support didn't reply yet.

That's in line with their promise to meet a minimum payment per credit, even if promotional (or free) deals take the actual buyer price below that.

The "floor" is 40 cents per credit, of which you get 35% or 14 cents. I get these (mine are 18 cents which is still bargain basement) very rarely - perhaps one or two a year that I notice

I got two last days. One 0.14$ (S size) instead of 0.29$ and one 0.56$ instead of 1.34$ (L size).

Tnx 123rf!  :-X

If you're at the 45% level, that's the minimum payout - such as when they offer a free promotional image

Just sold a LEL for $0.41. This is definitely a new low. Anyone else experiencing such low LEL revenue?

As the licenses vary, so do the prices and royalties to us. Only support can tell you what the buyer received for that particular license fee

I got a $0.41 LEL today as well.

They really make a mockery of what you would expect from an Extended License.

I just had one for $0.32 !!!  I can't believe it!   The last time I had one it was for $8.55 and I thought that was low for an EL.  The time before that it was for $13.02.

They started to suck big time once they put in their RC system.  I am going to write to ask them what is going on but if they are selling any kind of EL for only 32 miserable cents then it may be time to can them.

sorry I've just seen this thread again and forget to post the answer I got from 123rf. Here it is:

please be advised that sometimes the cost of the credit can go very low as the client purchased a very large amount of credits at a time, but we have a threshold on the payout when we pay our contributors.

For this case earnings calculation as per below :
(see attached chart)
S size : 1 Credit
Royalty tier = 35 % (Level 2)
Earning = 0.14
Earning by cost per credits =
0.14/ 1 = 0.14 USD (at $0.14 threshold per credits at tier 2, 35% royalty split)

Anything below the threshold will be absorbed by 123rf itself. We hope this clarifies. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need any further assistance.

I got a $0.28 LEL this morning and, not sure what it was, looked back at the old threads here. Back in 2012, when LELs came out, someone no longer on the forum wrote:

‘Could be big money coming our way...   ’

Usually I enjoy irony but not in this case.

I still don’t quite understand what rights a LEL gives the buyer but any right is too much at that price. Is there a way to opt out of ELs as with DT?

The thing to remember is that sometimes a custom license can offer fewer rights than the broad, perpetual royalty free license does.

Clearly giving away more rights for less money is bad for contributors. But if they are doing what they said - which is crafting custom licenses for large customers - then it could be reasonable to see smaller amounts.

I have had some small LELs in the past. From their answer to one of my support tickets over an 18 cent royalty for an LEL, they said "The download is from a free trial package we offered to a special client under promotional usage. The package work like a subscription but the scope of usage is very limited. That is why the download is inserted under Limited License column."

Today I had an LEL for $5.333, so they are still doing other types of rights bundles, not just promotions.

In 2013, on another support ticket reply about an LEL amount, they said "We will certainly have the website to show the amount of credits for all LEL downloads soon." That clearly hasn't happened and it would be much better if they improved reporting to include that. We don't need to see the full license, but some description of what rights were granted and for how many credits seems very reasonable to me.
