As thread's title:
123RF: fave and donate. Does it help to increase sales?
-
What does that mean: "fave and donate"?
If it is the agency wanting free pictures, then its the same old story.
And dont!
Dont give images away for free.
-
Fave supposedly helps position a percentage of your images better than your other images. Free is fools gold.
-
What does that mean: "fave and donate"?
They are features of 123RF.
________
Here is what 123RF manager explained me:
'Fave' Images
By faving your images, you get to flag your images to increase their search ranking. The 123RF search engine will treat these
as the cream of the crop of your portfolio and when a person searches for an image that fits your keyword list, it will display your
image in the first few pages. You can elect 5% of your accepted image count as your Fave Images.
Donate Images
Here you may select any image from your portfolio and they will be available for free download for as long as 90 days.
You can expect a huge increase in your portfolio exposure and all donated images will be available for WEB resolution
(72 DPI) download only and usage is limited to 10,000 copies as per our Free RF Image License.
-
The faved feature is supposed to favour the search position of the faved images so I'm sure it must help. Don't know about the donate as I don't intend using it.
-
I just find the whole 'fave' thing one hassle too many. So much thinking, planning, shooting and post-production to do, and all the different upload panels with different agencies to deal with.. I just can't be dealing with having to 'fave' something to get it noticed on top of all that.
All the other agencies get me sales without having to add that extra step, and I do OK at 123RF without it (it's usually in my top five for sales), so I don't bother with the 'fave' thing.
-
I agree on that. Thats what we pay them for: to promote our pictures.
-
Yes exactly.
-
Fave works fine. If you want to donate an image, give it to a charity for free usage. Never donate your work to a stock agency. They don't need your charity.
-
I have used Fave and I think it works very well. I also donated a few free images early on there. It did absolutely NOTHING to improve my sales. I eventually removed the free images I had there and that also did not affect sales at all. Total waste of time donating to them.

Thank you all for your answers.
So:
Fave > Okay
Free > No

I have found this
"for WEB resolution (72 DPI) download only"
enough funny
72 dpi? yes but what size? 10000 x 28000 pixels? :D

Yes. Ditto to that. Used/Tried both.

I agree tht faves seem to help. !23RF just became my #2 site (very close to being my #1 site). I donated a free image but it was a flop (won't do it again).

Quite.
It showed a lot of ignorance on their part: not at all confidence-inspiring.

Yeah, I don't expect much from an agency that doesn't even understand what DPI means and that 72 DPI is not 'web resolution' or at all related to resolution.

I got my maximum amount of favorites and have had more sales this month then ever.
-
Swithed a few fav for others and a sale pops up today. Sales are few but maybe favoring a few pics does work. Or is it coincidence?
-
I tend to gave face fave the pictures that have sold already in the hope it may boost them. Not really sure it works.
-
a couple of the ones i added have had sales. one of the newer addition was the one that sold last night. now 123Rf is only $1.57 from taking 1st place in sales away from DT although i had a $3 plus sale there earlier in the month.

Your numbers dont make any sense or dont prove anything unless we know the bigger picture.
Is that 1.57 on 2000 dollar, or 1.57 on 10 dollar? How many sales are you talking about per month? How many images do you have on both sites?
-
Maybe they don't make sense to you and i don't have to prove anything to you.
My sales numbers are private to me.
-
Fair enough, but there is no use adding to the discussion then as no one can benchmark anything based on what you say.
I know your stats on CanStockPhoto, if those are representative then I know enough.
