Title: 123rf no longer accepting video?
Post by: unnonimus on April 03, 2020, 05:27
got a weird difficult to understand message from 123rf where they are saying they are no longer accepting video.

I came here for the same reason. It almost looked like a spam email.

Yeah, it's not worded very well!

Hello Footage Contributor,

We hope this email finds you well.

We would like to notify you that as on April 6, 2020, 123RF will no longer be accepting any footage content or repurpose footage into another site within INMAGINE ECOSYSTEM. We will send out an invitation to selected contributors to participate.

We will not place them for sale without your approval.

Please note that all footage submitted to 123RF in Pending status will progressively be removed from our servers.

We will also be disabling the Upload Page for footage.

We will continue to license your footage for as long as we can and please rest assured that we will send any earnings that you may are entitled to during your time with us. Further announcements will be made to this effect in the future.

We would like to thank you for submitting your footage all these while to us at 123RF.

Note the following part: "...into another site within INMAGINE ECOSYSTEM".

Apparently they put footage on INMAGINE site(s)? without contributor's consent, similar to what Pond5 did?? They probably received some complaints about this 'ecosystem' but I haven't heard about this.

Edit: Is 123RF a brand of INMAGINE? Or is INMAGINE an affiliate site?

Edit no. 2: Wiki says: "123rf (part of Inmagine Group)", so it looks like they are going to stop accepting footage. Well, their review system was slow anyway, I won't miss it. I don't expect to get an invitation.

123 sucks anyway.  I may have sold 2 clips in the last year.  Been waiting for them to shut down altogether.  Takes 2-3 months to get a $50 payout. But it does sound like they are going to have an exclusive collection by invite only.  Wonder what that's all about?

if those idiots actually reviewed the stuff I sent them maybe, just maybe, they would get sold.

Latest batch has been stuck there for at least 8 months.

Yes, strangely worded email. I had to read it two or three times to understand what is was about (and Google search Inmagine)

They say they will send out an invitation to selected contributors to participate, but to participate in what exactly? A new stock footage library?

Agreed, terribly worded email. Yes, 123RF is part of the Inmagine Group.

My take on this is: the costs associated with reviewing, hosting and serving video footage is probably not being covered by their footage sales. Sales have declined at 123RF hugely for me and I recall many others reporting the same.

I'm guessing this is a cost cutting measure, which doesn't bode well for them long term. But with their terrible royalty system I wouldn't be sad to not see them around in the future.

I do regret having spent time on uploading there, hoping it would somehow boost my sales. What a complete waste of time that was.

They've done us all a favor.

I sell about 1/2 videos a year, so not a big problem.

I have only sold five videos ever there, but it still makes me wonder:
We get zero or low sales but still we stick there like fireflies!
Are we nocturnal stock beetles with no intelligence, sticking to the hope we will find a sale?
Why didn’t we get away ourselves? I ask myself too!
I mean, everyone breaking out of a relation sees it coming at some time.
Others are brave and honest enough to admit it, some stay to the end, hoping things will change.
They only thing that hurts me, is that we are running out of options for video uploading agencies.
Old ones close or go to a membership plan, current ones don’t sell and new ones don’t accept us, only responding they will keep our info handy for future reference.
At the end it will not be called a monopoly but a dualism (Shutterstock-Pond5) with one wildcard (Adobe).

Simple... takes a tiny amount of work to quit the agency and you're guaranteed zero sales as a result. Takes zero work to not quit the agency and you might get the occasional sale from time to time.
