I have had some credit sales at 123 rf  recently which gave me 25c each.  Anybody knows what that's all about as I don't remember ever getting so little?  Sub sales pay more than that.  I'm not at all happy about such a low commission.

My guess is of a partner sale, as in other sites.

Yes  thanks for your reply, I also wondered if that was what it was but 25 c  is pretty pathetic.  I don't remember getting one so low priced before but if this is a new thing and we start to get a lot then I will rethink uploading to 123.  I stopped uploading to crestock because of the low sub sale prices which if I remember rightly is also 25c.

Were they full size or some reduced size?

They were uploaded as full size but I don't know what size was downloaded.  They are shown as 1 credit and also are  under a  column labelled 'B' but I don't know what that stands for.

B is for blog size, their smallest, the same as XS in other sites.  It still doesn't explain the 25c.  I don't see any package in 123RF in which a credit would cost 50c.

Thanks Adelaide at least I feel a bit better knowing that it's only blog size.  :)

Yea i've had some of these too. However, 123RF is improving noticeably for me so I can get over their complete lack of support  ;D. I asked them about 2 months ago this question about low priced subs. Nobody answered.

The thing is about these particular sales is that they aren't subs they are credit sales that earn less than sub sales.  At least I now know that other people have had them and that the price isn't a mistake.  Maybe I've had them before but just haven't noticed. I tend to check my sales quite regularly to get an idea of what is selling.

Adelaide, I know you hate subscriptions (well who doesn't), but I am afraid soon we will all have to face the fact that every agency will sell our images for subs due to competition on the market. I think we can't avoid that. Actually, I don't see how we could stop things not to go that way :(

Buyer's need to be encouraged to always use all their downloads. This will stop agencies being able to charge such low prices as their model will have to based on all downloads being used, sub sites would, in effect, be bought in line with those selling credits......That or they'll cut our payments even lower, but I don't think contributors would stand for that.

Whitechild,

If that day comes, maybe it will be the end of my history in microstock.  :)

I'm not sure this is an unavoidable trend.  I know people who buy images eventually, for their kids school assingments.  I think there is a huge amount of people that could do the same, people who probably don't even know that microstock exists.  Unfortunately also there is a portion of them who would not hesitate in using a watermarked image...

But back to what has been discussed here, I prefer earning 21c for a blog-size image (IS) than 31c for a X image (FT subs) or 35/36c for a XXL image (DT/123 subs).

Adelaide

To warm up this old thread:

Today I had a "web size" sale at 123 with a commission of 40 cents. As web size price is two credits, that would come down to a commission of only 20 cents per credit.

As there haven't been any real explanations for such low royalties in this thread, does anybody have an idea where that comes from?

123 advertises on their homepage "credits as low as 68 cents", that would still mean a commission of 34 cents per credit...  :(

To be honest, my sales at 123 are so pathetic I don't even bother to check how much individual images sold for.   It is worrying that commissions are that low, though.

$0.25  earning 123rf response:
" This download was from our bulk purchase clients, therefore the cost of each credit is cheaper in this case"

$0.20 earning 123rf response:
"We've been running some promotions with some clients for which we gave completely free credits to them to test drive 123RF.com and our content.
We are paying out $0.20 for these credits"

They are generous ...with our money help. Once of reasons why I've deleted my account there.

Where do you find info about credits/prices?  I had a sale yesterday for .47.  Another today for .43.  Both were (B)log images.  Does anyone know how this works?

In my email box. It was their response to my email.

Not me. 123RF and DT are specialized in strange earnings.

I know this is an old thread and an a old post by you Whitechild, but I had never seen it.

In a way I don't agree with you on this Whitechild, there is a way, not only to stop our commissions to keep falling down because of the "me too" frame of mind of all agencies, but even to get our commissions back to what it was before the market was saturated with the subscription idea, if enough of us stop uploading new material to all agencies that play this $.20/$.25 deal, they could be pressure to bring up our commissions, based on the market's demand for newer images, of course this would take a substantial amount of photographers, otherwise it would be a waste of time, but it is in our hands, the contributors, to put a stop to this nonsense, now whether they're enough of us willing to do this is the question, but as long as we keep putting up with whatever pennies agencies want to throw our way as commission, I see this market selling our pictures for allot less than $.20...It's really up to us!...but how many of us are willing to stop this?  ;)

That at least explains where those low commissions come from...
Can't say that I like them though.

With my tiny portfolio, earnings at 123RF are insignificant.  Rather than let them undercut me at other sites by selling my photos cheaper all the time - I'm going to delete my account.

As far as withholding photos as m@m suggests, I think some of that is happening already in an indirect way.  I've been doing this for about 5 months now and while my photos do sell, all I see is steadily diminishing return on new images.  As a result I've lost interest and haven't submitted anthing for at least 2 weeks.   I think I'll wait a while before investing more time in this, and see how things shake out in the industry - who survives, and whether prices ever stablize.

I've started to submit on 123 when vector EPS price was 8 credits - that sounded fine with me... But, now they sell vectors for 5 credits and that is 1.25 single sale - just too low for my standard. It should be at least double price due to low volume 123 has.
I am now thinking twice if I will or not upload EPS file there - simplest only.
