Title: Anyone else having increased sales at 123rf ?
Post by: mwp1969 on December 16, 2009, 13:39
This month my sales at 123rf are really starting to take off. About 60 / 40% Credit to Subs Sales on a portfolio of 943 images.

Has anyone else seen a pick-up in 123rf sales lately?

They come and go all the time.  How many is "really"? Itīs relative to every agency.   For me 1 sale/day :o would be much there. Iīm about to give up there actually, but itīs so * easy to upload...

I'm seeing a very slight increase in sales at 123RF the last few months, but I wouldn't have even noticed if your question didn't prompt me to do a quick check of my 123RF stats (just comparing the first 15 days of each month) which are:

Aug 1-15: $23
Sep 1-15: $25
Oct 1-15: $25
Nov 1-15: $32
Dec 1-15: $35

Last month I saw a huge jump in sales that bumped 123 to third behind SS and iS.  This month has dropped back a little, with 123 in fifth behind SS, iS, SX (a JI enhanced license) and DT.  But it's still looking like my second best month there, a good 20% ahead of the previous 2nd best match.

"Really" meant in comparison to itself.  I noticed the following trend of increasing sales on my small portfolio ...

September = decrease from sales in August by about 30%
October      = 1.5x Sept
November   = 3.0x Sept
December   = 6.5x Sept ( 1.6x my prior BME and attained in the first 16 days of the month so far ... )

Since my portfolio is under just under 1000 images I mention it since we have other threads wondering where certain buyer traffic might be heading when certain sites are acquired and / are eliminated or otherwise in question ...

All in all I am pleasantly surprised at the recent increasing sales trend for my portfolio at 123rf.

For me, Nov was a strong BME, but this month on track to be half that. As someone else said, they come and go. Overall a good middle tier site.

For me December is better than November, but still within the boundaries of average sales - i.e. no jump.

my sales at 123 have stagnated this year, while others are mostly up - they're usually below 5th place, and even 3dstudios has beat them several months

i'm getting particularly annoed at the horrible reviewing - just had a 63 image lot totally rejected - all for "poor lighting" -- i mostly ignore rejections, but this job szeems sloppy and lazy - these images, as usual have been acceptable to many other sites, so the idea that ALL 63 have 'poor lighting' would be laughable if it were'nt so in your face insulting

My 123 rejections are almost 100% for "poor lighting/composition". So if yours are all for "poor lighting", I guess that means my rejections are for both poor lighting and composition?

I've been lucky to not get mass rejections (I agree, 63 of 63 is simply inexcusable), but looking through the rejections I have received, it seems they reject at least 3/4 of mine taken around sunrise or sunset. They really don't seem to like that lighting, strange as it seems.

But there have been some rejections for images taken where I just can't see a complaint about lighting being possible (not that I'd have thought there would be complaints about sunset time lighting), so it must be the "composition" they don't like.

I say, too bad for them. If they don't want it, they don't get it!  ;D There are 6 or 8 other sites that will.

I'm about ready to ditch them and let them keep the $1.80 I made there since either late April early May 2009.  I just do vectors right now and it seems to me that vectors do well there (at least mine don't).  They're also going to get stringent on acceptance which makes me afraid to redo my keywords.  It throws the files back to pending and I don't want my already approved images rejected.

I'm just wondering if I should stick it out to my first payout or take my loses and run now.

Any advice will be most helpful.

+1

i also just had my first 10 rejected out of 10, at any site, for the first time. ouch!
i guess they're realizing too late that limiting uploads might increase dl.

For increase there seems to be a decrease. I assume it is a universal conservation of sales law yet undiscovered. I am on the losing end of this formula at 123 for the last couple of months.

For me, 123 is about the ONLY site that has NOT shown consistent growth since I started 14 months ago.  It petered out last fall and has been flat ever since, despite daily uploads.  Even CanStock is likely to overtake it on my chart, making 123RF #8 of the 8 sites where I actively upload.

Nope, same as usual. Only new thing I am observing are 100% rejections recently. Maybe they are running out of space?

They're getting strickter on the files they're accepting in order to bring more "quality" images to the site.  I agree with the above about being a little too late to jump on that bandwagon.
