Title: How is everyone doing on 123RF
Post by: ichiro17 on May 16, 2006, 10:22
I just applied and got 60 pictures accepted within 2 days.  Thats fantastic and I made a sale in my first 2 days which is also very nice, although its only 22 cents.  I'm just wondering how everyone else is doing with this site.

As well, it seems that either they love my photographs that Dreamstime hates, or they are easy acceptances....any thoughts on that?

I find they are easy with acceptances but then I find similar with DT (SS doens't seem to like me though).

They creep along for me.  they have just started per picture sales as well which bring in more money.  Given the ease of uploading, defiantely worthwhile using.

I also think they will get better as that have a good backer.  They have 300,000 photos so they are already big enough to we worthwhile designers looking at them.

In your opinion, would you still consider it a BIG 5?
Title: Re: How is everyone doing on 123RF
Post by: uploaderz on May 16, 2006, 12:38
i think they are progressing.

Their individual sales are a nice addition.  They also seem to be rather sporatic, some days with really good downloads and some days with pretty meager downloads, but every day something... which perhaps points towards that they are getting better... perhaps the good days will soon become more of a norm.

NOt top 5.

Have a look at the threads at the end of each month which show what percentage of sales people get from each site.

How much do you get with subscriptions downloads?

22c for subscription download (minimum)

end of month they will revise their profit and split again..
For April it's 0.26c per download

In the craziest twist of events, I decided to upload to 123RF because it was easy.  And I guess I'm happy I did because I'm getting downloads there where I haven't gotten 1 download on Fotolia (even though for everyone else its picking up) and I've gotten only 1 download on DT and BS.  I've been on those for 3weeks.  I've been on 123RF for 3 Days and I've gotten 5 downloads already.  Thats fun.  I'm quite impressed.  Thats with 60 pictures by the way.

I had over 200 pictures but recently pulled them all.  They have a $100 payout minimum and I was creeping along.  It would have taken 4 years to get a payout with 200 pics.  I didn't think it was worth it so I closed my account.  I'm glad you are finding them usefull for you.

Yep getting 50% of non subscription downloads is definately a plus.

The last time I checked I had a 97% acceptance rate with this agency though they once boasted they increase their portfolio by xxx a month.

Definately downloads in surges I suspect if someone finds something they are looking for amongst your portfolio they usually download more pics.

Actually more sales here than Big Stock, Can Stock, Gimme or spm though still some way from that first payout.

Of the sites with low sales (123RF (http://www.123rf.com/src_cjphoto), StockXpert (http://www.stockxpert.com/?ref=CJPHoto), Canstock (http://www.canstockphoto.com?r=16626), Featurepics (http://www.featurepics.com/Authors/Images273.aspx)), I beleive this has the most potential though StockXpert (http://www.stockxpert.com/?ref=CJPHoto)is currently beating it on sales.  Canstock (http://www.canstockphoto.com?r=16626) seems dead (refer other post) and I am not sure if Featurepics (http://www.featurepics.com/Authors/Images273.aspx) has the backing or enough photos, although because you can set your own rate, and get higher payouts, it might do ok.

6 Years are an eternity in the life of microstock... it's almost the age of the entire industry.

Anyway, to the 6-year-old question, which is still a valid one:

123RF is a very solid performer for me.  Consistently, almost every month is a new BME.  In terms of consistent growth, they're right up there with SS for me.

Constantly increasing income, about 25% of SS with basically the same port... I started uploading to 123 a lot later. I have no idea whether the port's / images file age 'maturity' on 123 matters at all. Any opinions on that?

6 Years are an eternity in the life of microstock... it's almost the age of the entire industry.

If you shot for microstock 10 years ago you might be on the golden age of microstock. When a photo in tradition stock could fetch $300 few were interested in producing for microstock.

Starting 6 years ago like I did it might be a little too late as it began to be very competitive.

Starting now? Well you know the story.

yup, still going strong, barely any rejections, lots of credit sales.

4th best earner for me, below DT and above FT.

They're growing for me also, I might barely notice the commissions cuts next year and if they keep on growing further, well they can just cut again and I still won't notice much change. Yay! Lets just keep reporting back how happy we are to encourage them further  :D

No one knows what sites sales will do over the next few months, so no one can be sure how the commission rates is going to pan out (inclusive of 123RF).

Hopefully, if the sales increase did not help us along on their new scale as much as they predicted by the end of the year, logic will prevail on their side and they will revise the scale (or stand the chance of loosing a lot of good contributors).

Due to the current uncertainty, I think they are also waiting to see what is going to happen and will therefore not react to any outcries at this stage.

They could have waited till November to inform us of the change, but has selected (for whatever reason) the early warning choice, which is causing them a lot of flack and will hopefully not compel them to keep to the rates if change is required in the end.

They rank 6th out of 9 agencies for my portfolio. High acceptance rate, decent amount of sales. Their RPD is being helped by the new single image sales, but overall I do much better with Veer. I know this doesn't add up with the overall poll results, but I get an overabundance of EL's through Veer.

yes sales are growing but most of my sales are subs or s  - the comissions are quite pathetic - and they should lower the $100 payout to 50 -  with the pennies we earn takes forever to get payout

Same here, they are number 6 for me. June has been a BME but
I'll never rise above contributor level 2 / 35% commision which means a 15% cut.

Interesting that most of my ELs have been on Veer. It's number 3 for me right after SS and FT.

Very up an down sales for me - a decent month followed by very slow for a month or two.  I'm not seeing the big increase the were forecasting.

I did some calculations based on my average monthtly credits x 12 months and I would have needed to instantly increase my portfolio by a factor of 6x and they would have needed to increase the sales by a factor of 3x in order for me to achieve the credits needed to keep the current commision rate.  :(

My portfolio is small and I'm working to increase it for now, but will reassess at the end of the year.  They are currently my #4 earner but that will be certain to change after the new system is implemented if they don't make any changes.

My 123RF sales have increased quite a bit over the past couple of months. Still only about 15% of what I'm doing at SS, but still very much worth my time. If sales stay on track, I should be able to make the 45% tier when commissions change.

Think you made the point a few posts back. So no positive comments till 2013, right? Do not upload further to punish them? Yes, why not? I am sure I can take the 30% drop in revenue from my second largest seller with a smile for the rest of the year.

Let us not be reasonable and see how things pan out over the next six months, till possible implementation. Come on, take the lead and delete all your images right now and teach them a lesson....  ;)

We're not there yet mate, I'm sure all of us will take measures when the time comes, 123RF might even adjust the threshold.

They are still doing very good for me with lots of credit sales and consistent reviews.
Does that make me blind for what's coming, of course not mate ;)

Comparing first 11 days of July 2012 to 2011, I'm up more than 200%.

As far as I'm concerned, SS and 123 are the only sites on a great roll these days.  Most the other major players are either flat, posting minimal gains or in the toilet.

that new commission structure is going to hurt everyone... I will seriously have to see whether to pull my port out all together ( seriously, if they are going to screw me, I may as well return the favor)  or at the very least stop uploading any new stuff to them.

Theres still a few months to go , and I hope that they seriously reconsider their intentions of messing around with the commissions.... I think when they wanted to do this last year, there was a big enough stink raised about it from everyone here, that they had to back off... am hoping that they will just remain status quo

Yes but he's already halfway so looks like he won't be even making half of last year, with a bigger port, mine are a bit down too compared to previous months and lots of subs lately.
If sales trend will continue and 123RF will not do something about the commission threshold next year they will probably lose a big chunk of contributors, including myslef.

Truly feeble July. Even beaten by CS who I stopped uploading to ages back due to low sales - but everything is relative I guess! At least at CS every so often there is a half decent sale to boost things! So going back to CS - and as for 123...well, if they DO cut commissions like they are saying...they could become my 'new CS'!!!

Still, good agency for me, consistent/fast reviews and regular sales/payouts, that is all I ask from an agency and that is what I get from them.

Every single month of 2012 has been better than the month before at 123RF for me.

July was yet another BME, and 123RF is now my second largest earner.

For the record, I do vectors primarily.

Nice to see vector artists do well there too.

I'm unable to check for daily DLs, instead the revised agreement pops up. The agreement was put in place in Feb, so I don't know why is it showing up now. When I try to check my earnings they're at zero for the last six months (since the latest agreement is in effect). Is anyone else getting this?

Not just you Stan. I'm getting a yearly earning page going back to 1969 (!), no recorded sales for the last few months and a total balance about $15 short of where it actually is. Not too worried about it -it's obviously a bug and things will back to normal soon enough (I hope). Regards, David.

I didn't even know that microstock was around in 1969.  Ha.  Same here, nothing but jibberish on the site.

Off topic (sorry) but it's a bit weird because I have been recalling 1969 all day -because of the death of Neil Armstrong. We had a brilliant primary school headmaster who told us we didn't have to come to school the next day if we wanted to watch the first steps on the moon. I stayed up all night and eventually saw it live around 5.00am (UK time). That's got to be (for me) the standout historic moment of my life. It sort of puts a temporary bug at 123 into perspective. Regards, David.
