I can't even upload initial 10 photos. Almost an hour has passed, uploading please wait message is still showing, but the process isn't finished yet. I got 200 images online in less time last week on FT.

Anyway, I tried to give 'em a shot, as many of you are cheering so hard, that we have to give smaller agencies a chance, since they pay a bigger cut, try harder etc, but I'm just sorry I wasted an hour on them (I wanted to got to sleep 40 minutes or so ago). It's really no use, especially if the other sites are as buggy as 123RF. I'll just stick to big 4. It's true that IS is braking down a lot, but at least it's my 2nd earner, which no middle tier could be anyway.

I uploaded a batch to 123rf earlier today - for the first time in over 2 years - and had several problems, although I did (I think) end up getting releases attached and files ready for review.

It was not a smooth experience, but it did end up completing eventually. Perhaps they have site problems today and you can try again?

I have to say that the interface for reviewing your pending files and attaching releases is really poor - comparing it to the many improved interfaces that other sites have adopted. As an example, after attaching releases, when you go back to view your list of pending files it doesn't list the attached releases, so you can't easily see if you have everything complete. You can go to the upload releases page and from there see all the files which use the release, but you need to see it all in one place.

I think SS's new content editor has spoiled me :)

The UL process is finished, the problem was that one of the files was a tiff, that's not supported. Couldn't I get that report over an hour ago. I re-uploaded the .jpg version, but got this message:
Note:
Do not put copyrighted keywords into description or keywords field,
Do not put name or brand of camera used to take the photos,
Modifying description and/or keywords of an image will send it back to pending queue.
DSC_1739L.jpg: Upload Failed

I have no idea, what that message is about and what could any of that have to do with that particular failed UL.

Well I have to get there to see it, but yes, SS i way ahead of everyone when it comes to uploading and editing content, simply superb as are the earnings (which matter the most anyway).

The site seems more and more pathetic, with every new error message I get

123 is by far the most difficult site to work with.  Their navigation is horrible, their upload process rarely works, assigning releases is a nightmare and, well, sales are stagnant for me.

When it works it is one of the easiest workflows around but there are problems in last few days so process is broken. I am still able to upload but image transfer from ftp to web server which used to be manual now happens automatically. Maybe it's a new feature they are trying to roll out but something went wrong.

They actually read this forum and confirmed that there was something wrong with recent changes on their site :-)

Hi Slovenian,

The Note that you received is only a notification message, not an error message.

Kindly attached the "Upload Failed" file and email to [email protected] so that we can proceed and investigate your issues further.

Many thanks,

I just sent them this email, giving them a last chance, it all depends on them now...

"Hi!

I was instructed in this thread on MSG http://www.microstockgroup.com/123royaltyfree-com/i-tried-to-give-them-a-shot-but-uploads-are-broken/msg204781/?topicseen#new to send you the file manually. It's a part of the initial 10 files (for the acceptance review), 9 went through (I can't find them anywhere, but I got no msg that something went wrong with them). I'd appreciate very much if you could include the file along with 9 that went through, so they could get inspected ASAP so I can start uploading files for sale immediately.

It all depends on your performance now, if you'll make up for the bad first time user experience by swiftly resolving this I'll give your site a chance (and we could both earn thousands of dollars by the end of the year), otherwise I'll just delete those 10 files and move on.

Best regards,"

DSC_1739L.jpg: Upload Failed

I got an email explaining why that file failed:

- Images should be at least 6 Million pixels. Anything lesser will be automatically rejected.

But putting aside I didn't get that as an error message, prior to uploading there was this requirement: Images must be photographed with a minimum 6 Megapixels camera. It's something completely different. I took that shoot with a D3x, so with a 24 mpix camera. I Downsized it to IS L size, which is 5 mpix. I could have gone with 12 mpix XL, but since most people buy up to L size anyway I wanted to be absolutely sure it's going to be accepted for the first time and that I won't loose 10+ days because of that (I uploaded it in April in the middle of "high season").

And I really can't understand the 6 mpix limit, not only that trends are moving towards smaller sized images (I rarely get a DL larger than M (2 mpix) and I shoot wtih 1Ds mkIII or D3X most of the time). What's even more important, you usually can't downsize photos for noise, sharpness etc issues successfully, if you only own a 8-12 mpix camera. I know I wouldn't get a lot of images accepted for noise issues if I could downsize it to a quarter of the original size. And many of those shots sell well!

Well I gotta say support is ultra responsive and helpful. They accepted my initial 10 images in no time and I have to give them credit for that.

Like many mentioned, the site is not easy to navigate, things are not where you'd expect them to be (on logical positions), but you get used to it and a bit more mouse clicking is needed. Uploading is terribly slow, but editing of the content is swift since there's no categories and titles, just keywords and description. I've no idea why do you have to attach MRs separately, it's really time consuming to go through the menus. I really don't know why the number of files you can choose to upload is limited to 10 and why on earth you have to choose one at a time, not all at once. Almost as bad as on IS if you don't use deepmeta.

The most important are earnings, if those will be good, the site is worth uploading to, otherwise it's not. Well I'll see how things go in the first month. I'm currently uploading like a madman.

I've always found uploading, navigation, attaching MRs (although I don't have many MRs) on 123rf a piece of cake. And yes they had an ftp problem at the weekend, but they seldom have problems with ftp. I love not having categories to choose from too, even though there are categories for buyers.

Do they give rejection reasons?

I submitted 40 images on Thursday, and this morning saw that the batch was finally processed. Two were rejected, but there's no reason given. They were both large composites, so I don't know if there's a maximum file size, or they need a statement that all the images in the composite are mine, or they didn't like them for some reason.

If they don't want collages or composites, I'll not submit any more, but how am I to guess what the issue is?

123RF has a max of 20MB, that might be the issue you had, I have many collages

Thanks - 18.8MB and 18.5MB, so they're under the limit (which I didn't know about, but isn't a problem; I've had to make smaller sizes on some stitched panos, etc, for a couple of sites that have a max).

But do you generally get a rejection reason on 123rf? I know they used to give one when I last submitted there in 2008

yes, they review nicely but when there a few, low commercial value, composition, low lighting... etc they have sometimes some weirds rejects but overall are going pretty good on sales and approval ratio too

Lisa is right, I was exclusive at iStock for nearly 3 years, but just recently am back to independence again. Some things are a little different now, and I've been uploading to places in batches so I can see who likes what.

For example, I got a property release for a beach house of our friends and did one for my own house because interior shots are getting rejections without them from some sites. Navigating SS's LCV preferences; DT's similars rules, etc.

But, If I don't have a rejection reason, it's hard to figure out what they don't want. I don't much care about what the reason is, just to get one so I know what to cull from future uploads to that site.

Anglee - thank you very much. I did have e-mail and it appears that the size of those two images - even though they were under 20MB - was the problem. When there's no thumbnail, there's no rejection reason given.

I had a couple more that ran into the same problem. When you import the files from the FTP folder it says "upload successful" but there's no thumbnail generated.

I've made smaller versions of the offending files and re-uploaded (and now I see thumbnails).

Ideally, the FTP import process should produce an error message about the size and make the ftp log available for a while so you can go back and look for errors.

I already got 3 DLs, after my images became searchable yesterday. Nice. Now I don't where can I see which images got DLed. I checked June earnings, but all I get is that there were 3 DLs (subs) and the total sum, but nowhere to click to see the images. I didn't find a way of seeing DLs in my port and I can't find a way to sort them by DLs either. ???

If you go to the History and click on View Images for a date that contains any rejected images you'll see all images for that date.  The rejected images have a brief reason.

2. a little below and left there is "Sort by ( Image No. | No. of download )"
3. click No. of download

but like I said it isnt working properly once the first picture of mine has less downloads than the following etc..

Tnx for explaining it. I can't even select the No of DLs. I found one after posting here about it when I selected my favs. So I at least know about one

Hi Slovenian,

Kindly find the steps to check which images have been downloaded as below:
1) Login to your account.
2) Go to "For Photographers" section at the footer and click "More/Sell images"
3) Click "Download" and you will know which images have been downloaded.

Hope this information helps.

Cheers,
Anglee

So far all I'm getting is sub sales. What's your experience at this site? I don't mind getting mostly subs if the volume was even remotely close to SS, which it of course isn't (I'd be getting 100+ DLs every day over there, if I uploaded mostly my best stuff and that is almost 140 files, instead of 5 in 4 days I get on 123 RF).

RPD on 0.81$ and 50% of sales on SUB

Can anyone tell me what the average review time is for new uploads?  I finally broke down and joined 123RF, and initially submitted 13 images. One was immediately rejected for low commercial value, nine were later accepted, but three are still pending from June 6th.  Is a review time of 10 days (and counting) normal for this agency?

Thanking in advance...

I never knew about 20 MB file size limit, is this true? I have lots of images (landscapes mostly) extremely detailed taken with fast sharp primes which easily go above 20 MB, saved at quality 12 in PS. I don't recall having a rejection based on size limit.

Hi Sedge and Xalanx,

For Sedge, the average review time for new uploads {Newly join with initial submission} is within 2 working days. Kindly email your UID to
[email protected] so that we can check it for you.

For Xalanx, contributors cannot submit a JPEG file that exceeds 20MB while there's no limit for EPS file submission.

Hope this clear your doubt.

Have a pleasant day!

Many thanks,
Anglee

The site is broken now, I've been trying to check the stats a few times with no success. Not that I really need checking since the sales are so low, a sub here and there...

The review times have gone a bit stupid, I uploaded images on 28th June and they are still pending, don't know if this is normal but its sure slower than anywhere else....

At least the site is working now.

Sales are very very bad in July as well, all I got is a bunch of subs, I get more in a couple of hours at SS than I got at 123RF in 13 days :s
