I have noticed that new files I upload on 123rf don't take off. Rather a file needs to be online there for a few weeks at least, maybe a couple of months, before they start to sell. Then some take off.
Is anyone else noticing the same thing? It seems that new images might not feature much in searches. (I'm aware that new files don't show up for a few days usually, so I'm not talking about that.)

Also found simmering time of about 2-3 months before sales start.

ok so it's not just me then. Does this strike anyone else as being a bit odd, that you wouldn't promote new files much at all?

Hiya,
Have you faved your images on 123RF.com? If you have yet to do so, please follow steps as below:
1) Login (https://www.123rf.com/login.php) to 123RF
2) Go to "Sell Images (http://www.123rf.com/sellimages.php)" under the category of "For Photographers" at the footer.
3) Click "Faved (http://www.123rf.com/myfavimages.php)".
4) Select 5% of your total images.
5) Click "Add to Favorite" for those images that you like to Fave.
Why is faving important? The simplest answer to this is SEARCH PRIORITY. Your Faved images will display on the first few pages whenever clients conduct a search {thus it can help in promoting your new files}.

Is there a way to "unfav" and image? If I upload new stock, I may wish to fav a new image in lieu of an older one.

Yep, maxed out my faves, and do it every time I upload. Thats not the issue. It just seems new files don't get much priority in the search, in addition to the long delay between approval and the new images showing up in the search.
It's not a huge deal, it just is unusual for new images not to get promoted much, when they start selling at other sites pretty much straight away.

Same here. Actually rotate non selling faved images every now and then as well.

I find 'faving' a PITA tbh. We don't have to carry out this extra step at any other agency. With all the work of trying to think up ideas, research, find, purchase or create props, organise and compose shoots, work on post-production, upload, keep on top of new developments, etc. I honestly feel we do enough for our pittance. Making extra to time to 'fave' and rotate 'faves' is just one step too far for me.
If people are finding a two month delay in seeing new work sell, surely 123RF should be questioning themselves and looking at how best to put the latest arrivals on display for the buyers, rather than putting the onus on contributors to do this work for them.
Do you want us to spend time faffing around with faves, or free up that time to produce more images for submission?

Oh I'm not criticising or judging any contributors for doing it. I'm responding to the fact that someone has complained that their images aren't taking off for a couple of months, and 123RF are responding by suggesting that it's because they haven't been 'faved'. As if the promotion of new files is entirely down to us, and that we have to do it in order to push our work to the fore. That doesn't strike me as right at all.

If it helps get the pics in front of the buyers - i'm all for it. I've just added 12 new to pending as ed. If all are accepted then it will bring me to 79 images. Still small but shooting for 100 by the end of the year.

and they auto editorial images when they feel it falls under that category without rejecting your files + with the right port you can still make quite good money with them (as long as they bring in the dough, I will fav) ;D

sure, but then we do have to do categories, and the keywording hassles at iStock... with up to 3 sub-cats for each one!!
in fact, there's a whole lot less boxes to tick when you upload.

I don't disagree with that, but I also think there are plenty of times when images are accepted but never sell on 123 and have sold well elsewhere. So I can fave that one and see if it helps.
It works against people like me, who don't upload 12 pics from one series. It's easy to fave just one and have your buyer view similars, but I am cr*p at shooting multiple angles (I'm working at getting better). I'm too rigid, I see one angle that I like and nothing more. So I often only upload 1~3 from a series. My port may have 200 images, with 60 different topics. hard to fave just 10 of those.

There is no doubt 123's uploading process is the best in the business (although, to be REALLY picky, they could auto-process the FTP results).
Love no categories, no pointless clicks per image. Just upload and go.
And I don't hate the Fave idea. It doesn't take that long. But I do think new files shouldn't sit in the background for a month or two before seeing the light of day.
BTW Anglee if you're still reading this - it's a month and half away from your new commission system. Are we going to have to calculate our own commissions based on your chart, or is there something coming on the website to tell us what level we are on, and how far off the next level we are?

oh... that means xmas stuff should have been up in Aug/Sept? ah well. it's only my first xmas in microstock, i'll be better prepared next year.

Yeah - can buy Christmas props when they go on sale and have months to get the right images.
