Title: Took a Payout from them and then...got charged Paypal fees
Post by: dianajo on November 24, 2013, 23:25
One, had to contact them because the payout wasn't on time. Got that rectified and then discovered I was charged $5 in Paypal fees. I get all my royalties from agencies via Paypal and have *never* been charged a fee until now. The initial response from support sounded a lot like "Too bad, *bleep off*" so I'm wondering if I'm alone on this?

I do not get charged fees for payments via PayPal, from 123rf. I have been charged fees by Pond5/Pixmac and they don't care, so I get the frustration

I don't recall any payment complaints about fees from 123rf after troubles at the very beginning (in 2005)

I think it went like this.

123 pays us with mass payments, and absorb the mass payment fees. When your payment didnt happen, they had to resend the payment as a single payment and then you get hit with the fees. There is no way around that.

Sure there's a way around that. 123rf should pay the fees! If they messed up and a contributor's payment is delayed, the contributor should not be penalized a second time by getting less money.

Whenever you make a payment you have a choice about paying the fees or not - and obviously 123rf chose not to, but they should take care of that mistake. I'd missed the part that the late payment meant he received a "special" distribution.

There is a way around it, if you send the money as personal payment. But if a merchant sends too much money through personal payments, PayPal will investigate, and in worst case scenario issue a parting ways. Less severe action would be placing reserves on the PayPal account. I am sure 123 doesnt want to get caught. What they can do is add a few dollars to the payment to compensate.

I think you're right as to what happened Semmick. I'm really upset about how they handled the whole thing. They claim my email address was entered wrong (but the address they sent me to confirm was correct, was correct, so the error must have come from somewhere else in their system). So they failed to notify me that there was a problem at all. Then, they tried to make it "my fault", then I get hit with fees and they act like I should be cool with that.

I'm pretty bloody annoyed.

Hey Dianajo,

Please PM your 123RF UID to me so that we can check it for you.

Have a pleasant day!

Cheers,
Anglee

Cant remember being charged Paypal fees by 123RF.  Maybe its an error and they will fix that.

The 'resolution' to this is basically 123RF essentially told me to go to hell and eat it, they "forwarded" my issue to Paypal so Paypal could explain why I was charged fees.

I'm eating the loss and now waiting to reach payout again so I can take one last payout and tell 123RF to screw off. I know my Paypal address was entered correctly WITHOUT the second period they claim was between gmail and com because I had checked that the email address was correct before I contacted them.

I'm still more than a wee bit annoyed about this, but it is simply another case of agencies who want to screw over contributors.  The sad thing is I'd only decided to stay as a contributor because I'd hit a new payout tier. Now, I sincerely regret not firing them when I was preparing to take my payout.

They had a few options on how to fix it, a credit to my 123RF account in the amount equal to the fees would have been sufficient. Perhaps, I'll convert my balance to credits and buy some client images and get out of there sooner, rather than later.
