Title: Very, very slow start!
Post by: CD123 on September 07, 2012, 05:35
Worst first week of the month I had this year. Like someone unplugged my port. Any one else experiencing same?

I do indeed. It has been bad ever since I told 123 what I thought about their new commission scheme. Its probably not related but 123 has fallen of the bottom of the chart.

123 is staying the course for me. No more, no less
than any other month although EPS is significantly
higher.

The real snail sales comes in the form of DP. Over
1000 images in my portfolio and nadda - zip - ziltch
in sales. Yet August was by far my best DP month and
the best "middle tier" agency by a looooong shot!
Funny how things can swing so dramatically in such a short time.

and then differ so much in ups and downs from port to port as well. I had rather good months at 123RF while others generally where suffering (so guess it is just my turn  :D).

123RF always used to be my second or third best agency. But since a few months ago, they are hardly selling anything and settled at the bottom of the middle Tier. Wonder what happend. Maybe Karma  :o

Very disheartening if you are busy with your best effort in the "big sales" run-up to the 2013 commission cuts  :'(

+1  They are #3 for me so far this year and had been getting stronger every month but now seem to have stagnated.  Hope they get back on track soon.

The past 3 months have been really slow for me there. Also happens to be ever since I queried the really low royalty on a video with support.

Never had a bad word against them or their proposed business model, except for questioning sales volume now. That might put a bit of a dent in the conspiracy theory... (unless a new employee just does not like my avatar) ;D

Slow start?  I'd say no start, dead, nothing, a big zero so far this month.

Normal sales here, maybe slightly below average.

So you don't mind that 123 is introducing an RC system they model after Istock's? Many contributors will get an instant pay cut come January.

We were talking about people who publicly criticized them and feel that it might have something to do with their bad sales (referring to this thread's topic). I mentioned that I did not publicly criticized them. Nowhere did I say or imply that I approve everything they do. Your inference is thus totally misplaced and of topic.

123rf is stable for me. However, September in general looks like having a very slow start. Many sites are down, including SS.

As you will note I asked you a question, I did not accuse, so it is you that misinterpreted.  So let me be clear.  I am simply asking you that question to bring clarity to your comment "Never had a bad word against them or their proposed business model".  It infers that you are okay with it, but I was merely asking if you approve of their RC system.  That's all. If I would have used a period instead of a question mark in my post, then you'd of been correct in your inference accusation of my post.

So you are nitpicking about something which is not really relevant to this thread, probably hoping to stir some sort of argument because you like to stir and just have nothing better to do?
Note that my sentence ends with a question mark. I therefore do not imply or accuse you of anything. Just wondering.  ;)

Well unlike you, I will answer the question.  No I am not trying to stir the pot nor create any flaming.  I asked you a question out of pure curiosity based on a comment you made.  If you don't want to answer it that's your right.  Onward.

Week 2, so far an improvement on week 1, but still not on par and a far way of from making up for the slow start. SS on the other hand speeding ahead for me (possibly on its way for a BME). So strange....  :-\

Happy for you! Even our small fish has to eat. ;)  At least we do not get disappointed for not getting the whole loaf, crumbs are fine to grow up on - for now...

Hiya, have you faved your images on 123RF.com? I reckon you'll be asking -- why is faving important? The simplest answer to this is SEARCH PRIORITY. Your Faved images will display on the first few pages whenever clients conduct a search.

Please follow steps as below (If you have yet to do so):
1) Login (https://www.123rf.com/login.php) to 123RF
2) Go to "Sell Images (http://www.123rf.com/sellimages.php)" under the category of "For Photographers" at the footer.
3) Click "Faved (http://www.123rf.com/myfavimages.php)".
4) Select 5% of your total images.
5) Click "Add to Favorite" for those images that you like to Fave.

Regards,
Anglee

Hi Anglee

I do every now and then and I actually update every 3d month or so by removing non sellers and replacing them with another selection (about 20% rotation). Just hit a very dry spot suddenly, for no clear reason. But then again, this is microstock, so no clear reason always present...  ;).

Thank you for the concern.

I think we should give them confidence at all 3 sites mentioned by you.

1) 123RF I noticed that is very fair in pay. When they gather around the minimum, pay their own initiative, thanks to a setting they have in their software for the photographer chooses.
Also, when a problem occurs, have a quick resolution, including by reason of having committed a representative in many countries and it allows the photographer to discuss language. To me it was a problem in their software, I noticed it and fixed it quickly.

2) DP has a beautiful evolution in growth. They are very fast at times when in evaluating images and other times they are slow, but sales for the first week I started when I was present at her. Also give quick answers to proposals photographers and that means respect for contributors.

3) Canstock was for me the place where, long time nothing happened that sale. After we arrived but a significant number of images (several hundred), and sales started coming. Not spectacular, but they started to move. I will continue to publish them, if maintain the same increasing trend.

So I think we need to give them confidence and support through our posts.

Yes, I agree with your remarks.  This thread however is to check current tendency for the month so far, to establish if other contributors experience the same short/medium term tendency.

Its not about the port, but the images. You can have 1 image and all you need is a  buyer.

Small ports can often sell more than big ports.  I know somebody with less than  300 that has huge amounts of dls and others with 1000s of images that sell much less.

For me 123 keeps selling 2 or 3 pics per month. My port size increased a lot as I'm new, but they simply don't grow my sales. I think I had a month with 4 sales :D

Me as well. Totally unpredictable agency. BME last month. This month? Sputtering along. My second largest portfolio equals my worst sales this month. And next month? Who knows?
Title: Re: Very, very slow start!
Post by: CD123 on October 22, 2012, 08:08
Very unpredictable for me as well except (funny enough) for the number of sales. About 50 per month for the last 6 months, although my port grew by 35-40% during this period. The amounts differ drastically as it is dependent on the types of licences those 50 sales consisted of. Have very slow start months, picking up again during the month. Then also a few fast sales days and then days without.

Just as long as that bottom line keeps ticking over, I am not really worried how they sell during the month. They must just keep on selling! 2013 is just round the corner!  :P
