I'm new to 123RF, and it appears that they have, by far, the worst uploading/editing process I've encountered.
I only upload a few images at a time, so I'm not too interested in the CSV import.
Here are the problems I'm having:
1.) There's no useful ID number next to the image as I edit the metadata. "Stephenkirsh123456" isn't searchable on their website, so I don'tk now why they use that.
2.) Once done editing the metadata, clicking "Save" doesn't change the status of the images. They were "Pending" before, and they remain "Pending." There's nothing to tell me the image was submitted.
3.) There's no easy way to add releases to images individually. The system they use is so terrible, I feel like I have to be doing it wrong.
4.) I don't get any notifications, of any kind, when images are approved/rejected.
Do you guys have any tips for solving these issues?
Thanks!

your not on istock then.
No emails for approved rejected. You need to go to the "history" location bottom right.
-
If you're editing the metadata after you upload, you're doing it the hard way. Always put titles, descriptions and keywords into your images via an IPTC editor before you upload. I use Graphic Converter for the Mac, but there are plenty of other applications that will do the job.
My workflow is as follows:
1. Edit my images (Adobe Camera Raw -> Photoshop).
2. Add titles, descriptions and keywords (Graphic Converter)
3. Upload via FTP (Transmit)
4. Use a web browser to transfer my images from the FTP server to the queue
5. Go to the Releases page
5.1 If it's a new model, upload the new release and then click on the check boxes
for each image of that model.
5.2 If it's a model whose release is already uploaded, find it in the list and click the
first icon under Actions. Click on the check boxes.
It's about as easy as it gets.

the MR bit is a bit of a pain, as you have to remember to go in there afterwards and attach images to your MR (as opposed to attaching the MR to the image, in the edit screen like you do at SS or DT). I've been caught out a few times where I forgot, or missed one. super annoying.
but, no categories, and nothing else to click. woo hoo!
-
LOL, I think 123 has the easiest upload process of them all, together with CanStockPhoto and GL
-
Easiest solution is not to upload there ;D
That said, if you use iptc, they have the most painless upload process.
-
Hm ok, I guess I'll look into changing my work flow instead. Thanks!

Yes I am, and I get emails from them for every image.

I'm still struggling to understand how you think FOAP is good and 123 is "worst ever" :o

You think the uploading process for Istock is easier than 123rf ?
Each to their own.
-
i prefer the one email for the batch system, like SS do, with the pic and it's easy to see. iS has too many emails and too much info - it's all just a canned response anyway, so it's not helpful.
123 is a mystery when things get approved, and there's no reason why? and some of it still through as editorial?
-
I never said Foap was good, or that I like it, or that I even actively upload to it any more. Simply that it exists and I've uploaded in the past. Foap's a toy, basically, but since there's SO many different forums on this site, I thought there might be interest and helpful to the group to add a forum. It's interesting to see how the community has handled the suggestion, though.
For iStock, I use DeepMeta which makes iStock's process just as fast or slow as the others.
iStock, SS, Fotolia, DP, Pond5, etc have a much more sophisticated uploading process with many more options, such as categories. 123RF made me feel like I was doing something wrong because of the reasons I listed above. I came here to ask for some guidance and got a little bit, but it was mixed in with ridicule.
-
Istock is the most tedious and time consuming, followed by Alamy and then Fotolia.
Those three are no where near as easy and fast as SS, CanStockPhoto, 123, DP, GL, PD

yeah, that tends to happen here. sorry.

Hi everyone,
We have produced a contributor guidebook, I'm assuming that we're talking about stock photos.
Here's the guide to upload stock photos to 123RF: http://www.123rf.com/guidebook/c03s01.htm (http://www.123rf.com/guidebook/c03s01.htm)
You might want to IPTC your images first to save you a lot of time when uploading to various sites. Here's a guide on how to IPTC, Describe and Keyword RF Commercial Content: http://www.123rf.com/guidebook/c04s01.htm (http://www.123rf.com/guidebook/c04s01.htm)
Here's how you can quickly attach and manage your model releases: http://www.123rf.com/guidebook/c05s02.htm (http://www.123rf.com/guidebook/c05s02.htm)
Any other questions? Please get in touch with us: submission@123rf.com
Thank you!

thank you Alex but "quick" is a subjective term. Have you compared your process to your competitors?
Your way involves going to another screen click click click click click click etc etc, instead of attaching release with the upload.
it's probably the worst part about your upload process, which overall is pretty good (+100 for not having categories!)
-
Agree with Gillian, the MR process on 123 is tedious, all the rest is fine
-
Hi everyone,
We do know exactly how our model releases work and sometimes it gets a bit tedious. I'm recommending a method to IT to implement that will really cut down the time you guys will spend on your releases.
The reason why we need releases to be files in this basis is because we can actually search for the number of people within the photo and also show the "More images of this model" section.
We use the model releases to provide such information and do the linking together.
Hopefully we can get something done very quickly.
Thanks and do stay tuned and do bear with us a little longer.
Alex.

Alex.
well other sites also do this, without the same tedious upload. (although admittedly, with the irritating categories)
however, news of change and improvement is good.
cheers, :)

As somebody making their first submission to 123, I agree with original post and find the interface extremely unhelpful.
Can anyone tell me how I intentionally nominate an image to be Editorial?
And also, are there any ramifications if you leave the 'consider for editorial if rejected' box ticked, (other than the obvious, that the image may become editorial :-/)
Thanks
-
Upload as editorial
-
when you upload there's an option for editorial (as opposed to Photos :o )
-
Thanks, I didn't spot that option. But now my initial submission of 10 files are in the Pending queue, one of them was intended as an editorial and It doesn't look like there's any way to change it.
-
If you tick the box consider for editorial, they will do it automatically
