The contributor event 2008 video is now on the site.  Takes a bit of time to look at but it answered a lot of my questions.

Thanks for the post sharpshot! it's funny though how we are supposed to get excited about stuff that other sites have had for years.... Oh well i guess it's good news anyway! :)

What do you mean? They certainly have the best search engine technology.
On a sidenote they are the most contibutorfriendly agency and treat their photographers with respect can't say they same about the micros but some microstockers play a mean trick on them and submit solely the same stuff to them that they have on the micros, at least you should show some respect and give them parts of your best work exklusive or solely to macro agencies with the same price range.

Don't get me wrong i definitely have respect for alamy it just sounded like most of the improvements most sites already have. Sorry if it sounded like i was bashing alamy.

One thing i wanted to confirm actually is, are alamy's licensed images now going to be exclusive? or is there an option to choose licensed exclusive?

Im refering to the email i recieved a couple of days go. Which i assume everyone else recieved

Looks like some nice enhancements.

Also looks like they're starting the process of tightening and cleaning up the collection a bit with the specialized sections.

James West has a nice candid yet analytical approach for answering questions. Some of the contributor questions were pretty, uh, enlightening. Proposing that Alamy gets approval from contributors before making any business changes?  ??? Checking the "have model release" button when you don't have a release but suggesting that "I can get one if a buyer asks".   And the guy who suggested he get the 5% increase back to buy more camera equipment was pretty much told that he was free to decide if he should stay with Alamy.

No i don't think i got wrong. I just was interested it what exactly you mean. Okay stacking images had Photoshelter already before but the version they are working sounded better to me - anything else?

This guy was absurd! 5 minute before James explained very well and thoroughly why the made the chance in the contributor commission and it made total sense and was completely comprehensible and sounded very honest. 60% is still more than fair my personal view was always that a 50/50 split is the fairest for both sides. And the new commission structure is still not implented though announced several weeks before - GOT IT FUtolia?
Because they remove the foreign exchange fee and other fees my split will remain nearly the same with the new commission.

They just name it different before it was called rights protected. You can still submit RM - Material without exclusivity if you wanna do so.

I'm assuming if i were to put them under rights protected it would get a higher rank?

Because most of my stuff is exclusive to them right now anyway so how could i go about changing that? or its too late and only my new work can be put rights protected?

ranking has nothing to do with the way you set the license. rights managed exclusive is the buyers terms not your choice. all they did was change the name from licensed to rights managed exclusive, exclusive use by the buyer, not Alamy exclusive photos. You need to read the changes and contract again.

ann, i just tested the link that sharpshot has here above,
and all links are working.
you don't need to go to Alamy's front page. just click the link you see above
in sharpshot's intro, and it will get you to the proper page and the various links to the videos.

you probably have your java and j script off.
make sure you have your java and java script set to on from Preferences.

Yes, they have a personal block on you.  ;D

OK, no... the site has been acting up since late last night. One minute it works, the next it's not there. I click try again and it's back. I couldn't get to MyAlamy at all and the forums come and go.

By the way, I played one video and couldn't view the rest using Firefox, so I switched to IE and they all worked. That's just me because I have a block on Flash because I'm tired of the pop-up flash ads on some sites.

Good viewing! "I don't have a release but I can get one." That was funny! And the guy who was uppity because Alamy didn't ask him about the 5% to fund development and marketing and increase sales. The CEO says, very politely, that's why we gave you the 45 day clause, to leave before it goes into effect, if you aren't happy with us.  ;D
