Title: Alamy credit in newspaper - no sale on site
Post by: steheap on April 28, 2012, 09:23
I was reading the Washington Post this morning and saw one of my images in the travel section. The credit said "Backyard Productions: Alamy" - which is my LLC name. I checked the Alamy site, but no sign of a sale of that image - I went back through all sales at Alamy and this image has never been sold.

Should I wait a while and see if the sale appears (perhaps large customers of Alamy can pay when they use the image?) or should I contact Alamy and ask about the sale?

I know that the Washington Post also uses BigStock, but no sign of a sale there either.

UK newspapers have a reporting period of three months 1, which corresponds with how the UK Tax office works with the newspapers.
I have no idea what the deal is with US newspapers, but it might be similar.
1 And sometimes a paying period of six months.

Make a scanned copy of the article and notify member services.  This happens on occasion - eventually the sale will show up but if you make a copy, and notify them, it may be sooner rather than later.

I saw an image of mine on the Huffington Post an then saw a sale a couple weeks later.

Give it 3 months to see if the sale appears before contacting them.  I don't think they will be happy if we all start chasing up unreported sales before their buyers are required to pay for them.

Thanks all. I've taken a scan of the paper and will wait a while before contacting them.
