About 10% of my portfolio at Alamy is RM and all of them non-exclusive. Question for the ones who have a larger percent of portfolio as RM: do exclusive images appeal more to the customers? Of course, one can set an image as RM and non-exclusive and Alamy will ask for exclusivity if this would be the case. But then it's no real guarantee that the image wasn't sold up to that point. I wonder if RM exclusive images are more attractive to buyers. Thoughts, experiences?

How do you indicate that images are exclusive to Alamy other than writing it in the description field?

by choosing the "RM exclusive" type of licensing in "Manage images v2.4" screen

Oh, of course - the option is greyed out for me because you can't reset license type once you've managed your images. Shame.
I'll look out for it next time I upload pics there.
They did contact me once to see if I could make an image available exclusively: I could, but it never came to a sale.

I don't think that exclusive is the same as "only available from Alamy", it's more like this:

Exclusive

The buyer obtains exclusive use of an image under the terms of the licence. Exclusivity is generally by industry or territory and will restrict other buyers from using the image in a similar way. Pricing for this type of licence depends on the terms requested, but it is usually more expensive. Not all images are available for an exclusive license.

To establish whether an image is eligible for exclusive use and how much it will cost, you will need to contact our sales team.

And I see no advantage since the buyer can request exclusive if they want, at any time. The not all images part is where the distinction is made. At least that's the way I understand it?

Personally when I check Editorial RM and I don't upload the same images anywhere else, especially not for 25 cent subs, that's enough exclusive for my taste.  :)

I think exclusive means exactly what it says. Once a buyer purchased it, the image will not be available anywhere else, for the time period when it's being used.

In terms of RM, 'exclusive' can be a lot of things: for a period, for a region, for a type of usage. I don't know how Alamy does, but these are available options when you negotiate with a buyer.

That's right. Just that it wasn't clear if you were using "exclusive" the way IS or DT use it, which is different. They claim the images are only for sale on their site. (which we've found isn't true because people sell similar's elsewhere and in one case, the guy claimed they were exclusive for higher commissions, on every Micro site he had them!)

And no I don't think it makes a difference on Alamy, because, if someone wants they can ask and request an exclusive use, even if it isn't marked as such. (opinion)

Maybe you should ask on the Alamy forum where more of the high producers who are tuned in to Alamy and bigger agencies, can answer?

Yea that would be an idea, I think I'll ask there.

Funny, I just 'managed' three images on Alamy and I didn't have the option for 'exclusive'. The only option I had was Rights Managed, which came up, greyed out, as soon as I put 'no release', so no option to choose Rights Managed - Exclusive.
I can see one benefit in setting the Exclusived there (assuming the photos is exclusively there) and that is that you might not be available if they wanted to contact you, so you could miss a sale. But I guess that doesn't happen very often. (It happened to me once (not via Alamy) when I was in the boonies for two weeks, mostly out of cellphone contact, and I lost a sale).

Yeah, a good reason to ask someone else. I sell about 98% Editorial at Alamy. Once I click no release, it's automatic.

Again, I don't think it means the photo is ,exclusive = for sale only on Alamy. It just means the photo is available for an exclusive license. (for more money too, which is nice) You can have it for sale other places. If someone asks for an exclusive use, they don't own it for life, just for the term of the contract and if someone licenses the image, it must be pulled from all other sites until the contract expires.

Different kind of exclusive from Micro claims.
