Title: Alamy USA and Commercial collection.
Post by: madelaide on February 14, 2009, 16:46
I hand't notice it before, they have announced the USA & Canada office with a USA flag hat on the first page.

I also saw this in their blog, but I am not sure what they meant:

Launch of the Commercial Collection

13 February 2009 at 17:40 by Alan Capel - Head of Content

We will shortly be updating the Alamy website with some new search features. These include options to search by date and number of people, plus a separate collection of images aimed at advertising and design customers called the 'Commercial Collection'.

The process for adding new images to the Commercial Collection is still under development, but we have decided to launch with a limited number of images that will grow over time. We selected a group of contributors for the launch and then spot-checked their images to ensure that they could supply digital copies of model and property releases where appropriate. Our goal for later in the year is to make inclusion in this collection available to all contributors who have uploaded the necessary releases. Please bear with us while we work on the changes necessary to add more of you to this collection.

For practical reasons we have selected individual suppliers (by pseudonym) rather than individual images. As a result you may find imperfections in the Commercial Collection. The collection is evolving and we are refining the content as we go.

Further details regarding supplying releases will be available in due course. If you would like your collection to be considered for the Commercial Collection and you are confident that you have all necessary model and/or property releases please email Member Services with ‘Commercial Collection inclusion’ as the title of your email.

Images that are in the Commercial Collection remain for sale in 'All of Alamy'.

I have seen this as well..

For the new commercial Collection, they require that the releases are uploaded... The upload functionality for releases seems to be a new functionality as well...  ?  Up untill now, Alamy have not seen any releases of mine...

It will be interesting to see what they determine to be valid for the commercial Collection...

They mean to make commercially safe images. To make sure your not lying you will need to upload model and property releases to get your images into the commercial collection..

There is a pretty good uproar about this over at the Alamy forum.

Looks like they hand selected a bunch of old outdated images.  Mostly RF.  I don't get how they plan on competing with microstock this way.

Hard to find something useful with so much personal attack.  It reminded me of some threads here at MSG.   ;D

I received email from Alamy today saying that they included my images in their commercial collection. When I read this thread a month ago, I sent them an email asking to be included, and at that time I got an automated reply that they will go through everybody's collection and notify us. How many people have gotten these?
